For further context, Tom has a bachelor’s degree in politics. Jessica has been practicing law for over thirty years and is a Queen’s Counsel. This means she is a lawyer that has been appointed by the monarch to practice law, and as such they’re deemed to be of higher standing than a lawyer, solicitor or barrister who is not a QC. The second hand embarrassment I felt reading this was off the scale.

Okay, so this is sneaky. The condescension can come from someone who appears like one of the good ones. I have a male friend who regularly mansplains. He gets away with it because he’s this mild mannered, soft spoken Pooh Bear figure. But most of the time, he doesn’t even have his facts straight.
