Mostly a lurker; and mostly trying to figure out my own stance on the issue by hearing some different perspectives about it.

The #MeTop movement (including its downfalls for innocent men as well as benefits for abused women) leads me to ask its male objectors what they think their response would be if sexism were on the other foot, so to speak.

Since the hunter/gatherer era of humanity the female sex has been subjugated and treated as a second class. I really don’t think anyone can debate this; women only received the vote under 100 years ago and across the world they are still treated as property of men.

My question is this; if the roles were reversed (if men had been an underclass to women, unable to write, read or undertake any activities which even remotely challenged your ‘station’ for thousands of years), how do you think you would feel as a 21st century man? Are you claiming you would be completely content and see no need to support a movement which aims to ensure the progress your gender has made is not reversed?

Would you not be weary of how limited your autonomy was even 50 years ago? Would you feel no fear of things reverting to how they were?

There is so much criticism for women who participate in feminist activism or challenge sexist behaviour, but I wonder what your stance would be if it was YOUR gender in this position. The #MeToo moment is controversial, but what if women had the physical upper hand and a historic and systematic advantage with which they could easily take advantage of you in the workplace, and pressure you to accept behaviour you actually find if not threatening, then very uncomfortable.

How would you feel in today’s social climate? Would you not feel some of the anger at, or at least fear of, how your gender had been treated for millennia? Could this help you understand the ‘feminazis’ better? (Please don’t fixate on this example; I don’t condone angry tumblr feminism; it’s not feminism at all and is VERY unhelpful to the equalitarian plight, but understanding where someone’s’ anger originates is the first step to creating a solution).

Imagine women were, on average at least half a foot taller than you, had around 50lbs at least on you and had been considered superior for the last couple thousand years. And your gender recently overcame most of that, but you still experience the remnants of that system today. What would you do? How would you feel?
