Marriage 3.0 should be a private contractual relationship defined by the individuals in question, with 100% enforced pre-nup agreements.

In addition, I see very little wrong with routine genetic testing of children in order to establish parentage either. Parenthood should be 100% voluntary for all parents.

I dispute the characterization of this concept as "Marriage 1.0" et al. Really, it's Divorce 1.0 and Divorce 2.0. Marriage itself hasn't changed all that much.

As far as Divorce 3.0 goes: no income transfer.

LTRs and "plain" marriage converts to covenant marriage upon birth of children. no nofault divorce during any minor childs lifetimes. marriage dissolves on the last childs 18th birthday with no alimony, just splitting of marital assets unless deliberately renewed for an agreed upon term

Alimony seems unnecessary in most cases. Other than that I don't think that anything really needs to change about marriage, as I don't find anything philosophically wrong with the idea of two people pledging to be with each other for the rest of their lives if that's what they desire.

Genetic exchange through mail. Offspring produced are wards of the state that get randomly given to single ladies raising cats. Edit: forgot to mention neutering everyone after freezing some of their eggs and sperm.

We don't need marriage anymore. All of the reasons for marrying for both genders can be accomplished without it. The woman can still sue for child support even without marriage and works so the need for marriage as a security blanket isn't there and Men can still be active in their children's lives without marriage, and in fact most break ups don't turn as bitter as full on divorces.

Financially depending on the country there are no tax benefits anymore or as is the case where I am you may end up paying more tax (25% pp when married compared to 20% when simply cohabiting). The average marriage ceremony now in the UK costs some obscene amount like 15000 pounds, and that is a financial strain added to the potential of other debts like university fees, a mortgage etc.

Socially we seem to have moved towards a lot more instant gratification, and a lot of people don't have the required patience and determination to make marriage work long term. The moment things get tough they leave, extreme case in point Kim Kardashian talking about leaving Kanye West the moment everything isn't sunshine and rainbows.

Children benefit from having two happy, stable and involved parents and marriage isn't a requirement for that. For every child who has issues due to broken homes there is another with issues because they grew up with two parents whonwete deeply deeply unhappy.

We seem to be moving away from marriage as a society and whilst some pine away (RP for tradcon marriage and women for the image of security) for times gone by it is likely a good thing overall.

"Should" vs "will" or "is" are different things. "Should" would probably be to get the government out of marriage except to enforce private agreements, but that will never work because people (and women in particular) are too stupid to and non-confrontational to protect their own interests.

Will or is, is an egalitarian marriage with similar incomes, assets and family responsibilities. They won't last relatively long (maybe 5 to 10 years) but they won't financially cripple them (mostly the guys) and prevent them from moving on to marriage 3.1 and maybe 3.2 or more.

Note that this gets hideously confusing when you have a person with multiple exs and children from each, and they in turn have multiple children from multiple partners.

Probably long term co habitation like in Europe. People living together and raising their children. The thing is unless the laws change there won't be a marriage 3.0. Currently living together for a few years in most states makes you common law married and subject to the rules of marriage 2.0. So in a LTR there's really no point in not getting married, because you're going to be treated like a married couple anyway.

So for marriage 3.0 to exist, marriage 2.0 needs to be deregulated so to speak.

Maybe it could have a set time limit and be specifically focused on sharing parental responsibilities and household income, but not necessarily require monogamy. Which would be closer to a "traditional" marriage.

Read "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley.

Government subsidized lab babies to keep the population stable and the social hierarchy and without the need for the adults to raise their children. A society like this would eliminate the need for marriage completely.
