Recently I discovered this SMV scale that applies to women. Every single guy I've showed this to, 10+ males at this point, varied races and backgrounds and success with women... All agree with this scale.

She is a ~3.5-4. She isn't deformed or very overweight but I don't find find much attractive about her. She could improve though with some limbal ring contact lenses, getting her hair done, mascara, eyebrow grooming and more drastically something to aid her jawline.

Same here. Whenever how attractive I am comes up, I've taken to just posting a picture of myself and letting them decide. I have no doubt that there'll be a lot of variance. There was a thread a while back about women's ideal build in men, and a lot of women (including myself) said ottermode. Some guy got rather pissed, insisting that we just can't imagine a guy as sexy as him.

Zoe Saldana and Rosario Dawson are 9s in my book. The only reason I can't rate them a 10 is because I don't know them. The only thing that differentiates a 9 from a 10 is personal preference/compatibility.

Once upon a time I would have rated myself a 6 or 7. Since then I've pegged myself down to a 5. After reading the comments in this thread and others the past couple of days, I have no fucking idea.

These are the baseline ratings of these women. Yeah, maybe Maggie Gyllenhaal looked better at 20 and when fully dolled up than Sarah Silverman does at her current age without makeup; but on a general scale, Sarah Silverman would be a solid 2 points better than her (in my opinion).

It's true that people's scales vary. One important point, though, is the relative ratings of men and women. For example, one person might label the average guy as a "3" and another person might be more generous, and label average guys as a "7". The purpose of the SMV scale, though, is to compare a particular man to a particular woman, with the expectation that people tend not to date other people of wildly different SMV. This means that if a person #1 rates the average man as a "3" and the average woman as a "3" is being consistent and can make a judgement about whether or not they would date each other. Similarly, if person #2 rates the average man as a "7" and the average woman as a "7" is being consistent and can make a judgement about whether or not they would date each other. Problems come in when a person rates men and women and himself/herself very differently.

I have a female friend who told me that she thinks she's an 8 or 9. I'll give her that she's got a pretty good personality, but if she put her picture up on HotOrNot (read: based purely on her physical appearance and nothing else), I'm guessing she'd be rated somewhere in the 3 or 4 range. Further, the people she dates are of a similar range (she's not dating 8s and 9s), so it's not causing her a lot of problems - she's not complaining about "why won't this person date me?!". Still, it shows that men aren't the only ones with skewed opinions about their own SMV or where people fall on the SMV. But, as long as people are being consistent towards both men and women, it's probably not a big deal.

He's a 4. Decidedly not attractive, but not SO unattractive that he's far below average.

He is a 6. Pretty average-looking guy, but he has a cuteness to him that brings him up a notch (for me.)

Thinking of an 8 was really hard for me because I have trouble thinking of a guy who I think is really hot but could be hotter. That said, here is my 8. Pretty much the only thing I find wrong with him is he's too skinny.
