He says he feels like he failed as a husband since he didn’t protect her, but that is such BS. If he actually felt that way he would have overwhelming guilt that would prevent even the thought of leaving her in this time of need.

Not going to work and drinking three days is super shitty and low value because he should concentrate on her well-being (taking time off work itself would be a good idea if he actually used this time to support her). And he's a bad person if he doesn't support his wife through the pregnancy and be there for her even if they eventually divorce. But I find it hard to fault him for not being willing to raise a rapist's child.
