My ex could have written this about me tbh. Just took endlessly from me. Didn't love me, just loved the ways in which I could serve him. I'm disgusted at myself for staying with him for as long as I did. I became his carer, always picking him up. He never did a damned thing for me. Just took, and made me feel like he was doing me a favour the whole time. I read this post and I am so glad to be shot of him.

I used to feel like it was my responsibility to take care of my ex, because he didn’t have the self care and strength in himself to get through hard times. When I’m upset and need a minute, I take a shower, clean, watch videos I enjoy, until I’m stable enough to think clearly. He just laid on the floor until I begged him to tell me what was wrong, and even then he’d just yell at me about it.

Now I know he’s just an emotional vampire and I’m much better without him as an anchor in my life.

Translation: He used this woman for free therapy, dumped everything on her, ran her dry with emotional labor, she pushed him to work toward literally everything that he has of value in his life and without her he's unable to accomplish anything because he is a lazy alcoholic, she played Bob the Builder and then he left her when he was built, or at least when he thought he was, He's completely unable to deal with his emotions on his own, and this poor girl was underage when he was 20 (reference to "local laws")

If it is even true that local laws may have any impact whatsoever on their relationship (there are places like this sadly, but I just don't know if I buy i from this drama king right here), then it is so much better for her to be without him. He sounds like dead weight, and while there should be healthy mutual support in relationships, if you need your girlfriend to be your "pillar or strength" when your car's check engine light comes on, then buddy - you need to grow up a little on your own. There is no point for this woman to put herself in any potential danger or legal risk just to be the only adult in this relationship.

This guy didn’t include why he broke up with his ex, but from how fondly he talks about her, it sounds like they broke up amicably. Maybe because of distance, work, or realizing they want different things in life now. This is the type of breakup you want to have with people. It’s healthy.
