It’s not the first time I have posted here (F26). And I’m always amazed with all your thoughtful advice.

I am in a very recent relationship with a guy (M28), who happened to be quite shy in the beginning, always respectful and still is. Seems to have a provider mentality. I am happy overall however I can’t help but notice some remarks that he makes that have been bothering me. I fear being paranoid since I’m always on the go to look for flaws and red flags, since I have been severely heartbroken before.

To contextualize I’m in the mental field and work for a public hospital (europe) have a cozy workload and so far I have been satisfied with my schedules, despite not making much for an MD. I could put on a lot more hours of work if I wanted to work in private practice, but I enjoy a certain quality of life and so far I haven’t needed the extra money (very blessed). My boyfriend works in finances (private bank) and makes more, as expected. What has been bothering me? Sometimes, here and there he soflty jokes that I’m a public worker and therefore don’t do much. This is something that is joked in my country, quite often. Usually by private workers. However, he has said it more than 3 times, always says in the end that he is joking and that his mother has a similar job as mine and that he jokingly tells her the same.

Today he has said that he met the gf of a friend who has also a similar job as mine, however she is “much more active than you...at least three hospitals”. He always shuts up and seems to regret his comments. But I don’t like them. Tomorrow we scheduled a date after work and I dont even want to go.

Am I overthinking? He is very good to me. Respectful, but is he showing is true colors? I’m not lazy, but I’m not a workaholic nor will I ever be, much less because of a guy (lol). What’s up with his remarks?
