I bought a house when I was 22. Then at 27 I let my now ex husband movie into it. Never again!! He then found a new sucker after I divorced him and moved into her house. Moral of the story is don’t let a guy move into your house!!

Be careful with idealizing ownership of a single family home and managing it as a single person. The yard care alone is daunting....and that's even after I hired someone to mow! Just know what you're getting into...I thought I did, and it's a smallish home with a small yard and it's still a lot. I may end up in a townhome or condo.

Sure, it’s not a house, but it’s all mine and maintenance does all the repairs and gardening. 😁

Buying my own home was the single most empowering thing I did leaving my abusive relationship. Knowing it’s my place and nobody can make me leave is amazing.

Sidenote, sisters in this thread, don’t feel like home ownership is automatically out of reach! I moved to a low cost of living area and the price of my single family house was less than what my parents paid for the home I grew up in when they bought in the late 80’s. I put less than you’d pay for a new car down on it.
