Hi big sisters! I’m not dating during COVID but someday if I choose to do so, I don’t know how to explain that a man should pay in case he asks. A lot of my hot 10/10 friends have been on dates with guys 30 and older (at least 10 years older than we are) and they have stable jobs while we are students, yet they still make my friends pay for their own meals. It hasn’t happened to me yet but sooner or later I’ll have to face that awkward situation. Objectively speaking I’m not as attractive as my friends and I don’t want to seem like a choosing beggar by having higher standards than them, but I want to stay true to my own values.

I’m not great at arguing and if he says “equality” or something like that I wouldn’t know how to respond. I can afford my own meal of course but I think him paying shows he cares and respects me, and likes me enough. I fully believe what FDS teaches. But if he says “why do you believe spending money on you is equal to affection” or “if you’re a feminist then you would be ok with splitting” then I don’t have a good response ready because I totally am a feminist who believes in equality. Also I don’t want him to think I owe him sex or even a kiss if he pays.

Are there any specific words you say in this circumstance? How do you respond to their arguments? What can I say to be polite and not come off as materialistic if this situation ever happens to me?
