They waited till their youngest child finished her last semester of high school to file for divorce. A lot of people grow apart from each other in a marriage but hold on till the youngest completes high school before starting the divorce. The court documentation TMZ dug up says they won’t start trial till Spring 2022

This is ridiculous! Bill Gates has been old as long as I’ve been alive. He is literally moving into the last phase of his life. He needs to sit down. I have no idea how divorce could benefit either of them at this late stage.

To be that 'succesful' you must be on top of your game which pretty much 24/7 time and energy consuming.

Each to their own i guess but usually it always comes at a cost.

The common thing usually personal/ relationship takes a back seat.

I just remember going through a list of comments explaining how Musk had this terrible history with his exes, how Michelle had to technically give up a lot more for Obama than he did for her, and somebody brought up the Gates as a possible example as HV couple, and then a brief conversation ensued where it came out that they’re not going to last. I think I remember watching a documentary on Netflix about Bill and a brief history of them getting together- and it just seemed like he would barely make time for her & their relationship. Like an afterthought. Crazy.

I mean his investment in fracking, private prison investment, school privatization, water privatization, tampering with municipal water and larvacide in Brazil, domestic spying, buying elections in Kenya (oil, fracking), filthy oil trains from Canada, strip mining on Native blood lands, dirty oil investments that killed Nigerian children...

I wonder if his divorce had anything to do with the child porn supposedly being traded by an engineer working at his private compound. That investigation went hush very quickly.

Just a heads up for mods: watch out for new accounts that seem to be sea-lioning on behalf of certain power figures, particularly billionaire philanthrocapitalists with media clout.

As most know by now, sea-lioning is when someone undercuts a perspective with questions or peddling doubt regarding the view but shows no interest in evidenced responses.

For over ten years, I edited and worked for advocacy attorneys fighting for various causes related to children, like environmental health issues, education rights and institutional abuse of the disabled. I got the work because of my previous history in dv victims' advocacy. And in every cause I dipped my heels in, we would encounter Gates Foundation trolls, either trying to play "entryism" to give the foundation unearned "savior" creds and "eau de lefty humanist" smell or to scuttle emerging whistleblower reports on Gates' toxic or corrupt ventures. When the foundation couldn't gain influence, they would simply buy out the whistleblowers as happened with the Cochrane Consortium, which used to be one of the very few truly independent scientific review organization in the world we could always rely on for expertise.

The paranoic pull and scope of that philanthrocapitalist piece of shit is beyond credibility so most people simply don't believe it. He has literally personally stepped in when he believed his trolls weren't handling criticism properly. Because the activist attorneys I worked with had bylines on the old Huffpost and before wide use of VPN, authors could easily trace and dox the source of flak and so much of it led back to the Gates Foundation, Gates owned publications or even Microsoft HQ.

Since Gates has become a favorite target of violent right wing psychos, the situation has become very much like how even the most credible, independent scientific critics of the pharmaceutucal industry (another pool I waded in regarding the Vioxx and Trovan scandals) were being tarred as "Scientologists"-- even when the whistleblowers were open critics of the cult-- until congressional investigations finally exposed industry front groups and ruined the strawman smear.

Anyway, my suspicion is that the Gates Foundation would be all over FDS, particularly since the sub and blog are getting far more media attention than some of the more "obscure" causes that Gates' trolls regularly trolled on. And Gates and his various orgs, like other pseudo-left institutions, don't like progressive loose canons, especially ones that could foment into genuine political forces.

For the record, just because Q-Anon targets Gates doesn't make all institutional analyses and criticism of Gates invalid or associated with Q-Anon. Major critics of Gates include Noam Chomsky and other anti-neoliberal activists. Anyone suggesting otherwise or refusing to acknowledge non-woo sources of criticism for figures like Gates reminds me of early days of the troll wars I encountered, back when we naively thought our causes were too puny and obscure for the power brokers to mess with. It begs the question of how power brokers amass that much power other than nipping in the bud any mobilization that might one day snowball into a genuine threat.

On the bright side, you know your cause isn't just hot air when the Gates shills start gathering.

I'll be honest, I was really sad when I saw this. In their documentary that came out 6 months ago, they seemed like they had genuinely found love. I guess I subconsciously kept thinking that if people like them have a happy life, then it's possible that I could have a happy life too with romantic & family love, wealth, and health. Hearing about their divorce kind of shattered my own hopes for a happy life.

Lesson learned to never use people in the media since you never know what goes on backstage.
