Edit: I suppose I should add that this doesn't automatically indicate that women are the ones who bully men more, rather that's women's perception of men is a lot lower then men's perception of women, which would lead someone to believe that perhaps it is the women who are shaming the men since there's a large correlation between women's perception of men and body shaming of men online. Based on previous studies that say that women significantly slut shame more than men do, I would say that this is probably the case. Does anyone else have any extra information?

Well, yeah. How many times have you guys been called fat, neckbeard, ugly, etc. online for disagreeing with a woman or arguing for MRM topics? I know that I've had it happen a shit ton from men and women.

I remember when a fat girl in gym class made fun of me for not having big arms. She even flexed to demonstrate her larger arms. I told her that it's not muscle, it's fat. All these white knights came out of nowhere telling to stop calling her fat.

Somehow it's okay for her to make fun of me for being skinny, but it's not okay for me to tell her she's not that fit herself?

As a kid I was a national grade athlete. I was built like a whippet and my muscles were developed well beyond those of my peers.

However, I was severely bullied about my body. A few examples:
1. People would just come up and punch me for no reason (multiple times), then be like 'oh you are strong so that shouldn't hurt'
2. I was regularly forced to participate in arm wrestles and do hundreds of push-ups to demonstrate that yes... I'm still stronger than my peers. Eventually my arm would get tired and I'd lose an arm wrestle (I was a sprinter anyway - so NFI why people wanted to test my arm strength anyway)... this would lead to weeks of me being put down for losing to some dude (and being forced into a re-match).
3. My body was an object for women to critique. Yeah like they'll whinge about breasts, hips...etc being critiqued. EVERY girl had an opinion about my abs (was it REALLY a 6-pack?!?) my chest, my biceps, my legs... whether my face fit my body. Was my body fake? Had I used steroids?
4. Then magically overnight... at about the age of 23... guys my age became MASSIVE (massive rather than toned became the same thing). Steroids became common place and I became 'too skinny' for everybody. When I quit sports and put on a bit of a gut I was 'too fat'. I found it funny how we magically clicked from seeing the Hoff as being the perfect male to seeing the Rock as the perfect male. Highly augmented bodies seem to be the go these days! Not for me thanks...

Now I don't give a fuck what people think about my body and actively boast about my cake-eating habits. However, men's bodies are on show. Masculinity is a massive thing growing up, and nobody's immune from body-related bullying.

I see girls call out men's appearance all the time like it's no thing but also preemptively attack men for calling out her appearance even when the man hasn't done so at all. But that's "equal".

When I was a kid there was no "online" anything, but I absolutely got real-life bullied because of my body, in my case being scrawny. I remember when I was in eighth grade all the girls in school were brought to an assembly about eating disorders. I asked why the boys weren't allowed and was told, "Because girls get pressure from society about their bodies and boys don't."

As an adult I'm into lifting weights, and although I genuinely enjoy it, I have to admit a part of my interest in lifting is a result of not wanting to be that scrawny kid that other kids (boys and girls) made fun of.

I think the key takeaway here isn't that boys are bullied more. The numbers are close and some other studies show that girls are bullied more.

However, there isn't good evidence that girls are bullied more, and we should help provide equal help to boys and girls to avoid bullying and minimize the impact of bullying.
