If men focus on their own pleasure during sex, it's sexist. If they focus on their partner's pleasure, it's sexist. If they breathe air, it's sexist.

How about if we just stay home watching porn? Let me guess, that's sexist too!

Masturbation is a form of telepathic rape.

[–]Kiwifruitee 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Please tell me that is a joke because we are at a point where I can't tell whether it is a joke or a legit thought held by some feminists.

[–]vhisic 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its an exaggeration (they dont think its telepathic, they think its literal) but not a joke.

[–]demiurgency 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not a joke. Just check the first 10 results of a google search "pornography is rape culture"

I think asking a woman out for coffee might also be racist...somehow.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points23 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well 'coffee' is a well-known code-word for 'rape to enforce white supremacist heteropatriarchal capitalism'. I read it in a book.

[–]splodgenessabounds 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Not only that, but neither did the authors consent.

[–]Appleseed12333 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Imagine that kind of fan mail. "Hey is it cool if i jack it to Sailor Moon?"

[–]radeonr9270 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was talking about how anita or someone else said that developers force videogame characters to objectify themselves and that they wouldn't have worn that particular clothing if they had a choice.

I mean I understand if they are making the criticism that such clothing is impratical. Like I agree with a lot of the criticism against Quiet"s character . Or saying that the female character's personality clashes with the outfit. Like no one is going to believe that a girl dress up like a stripper is quiet and reserved.

But they go so far as to say these things hurt or objectify the character itself. As if she's a real live human being and not a fictional character. Which is like saying killing a fictional character in a story is like saying your killing a real life person!

[–]coke501 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Even the author acknowledges how awful this article is ...

Nothing that I’m about to say is a mark of a terrible person.

… so she tries to shift the blame elsewhere:

It’s just a mark of the ways toxic masculinity impacts all areas of our lives, including sexuality.

Where would Feminists like this be without cis-het. white men to offload all their emotional baggage onto?

I can almost see the future headlines now:

‘Male suicide - tragedy or just another example of men shirking their responsibilities to women?'

[–][deleted] 61 points62 points63 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

See, here is the long arc of what (I think) makes things so ridiculous...

The Sexual Revolution came and went pretty quickly because, in a sexual free-for-all, it's a bad deal from the women's perspective. The old deal, accepted subconsciously, was that sex should be traded for a lifetime of financial support and morality was the rationale. Well, the sexual revolution changed the rules and when the "lifetime of financial support" side of the bargain was taken-away, nothing came-in to replace it. Men did not magically become better lovers and the complaint came that men were "using women for sex," as if sex-for-sex was an inadequate arrangement and something extra was lacking.

So, the subconscious reasoning went, if women were holding all of the cards in sex, then the bad deal would no longer be so bad. The rationale for this was women's equality, women's safety and women's well-being and so on. So now, it became important to increase the machinery which penalizes men for sexual misbehavior and sexual crimes, going against pornography (women's safety was the rationale for that, but they never managed to make the argument convincing) sexual harassment, etc.

But around the end of the '90s, a lot of feminists got tired of being associated with the grim, anti-sex Puritanical wing of feminism (it looked bad) and then decided "yes, we feminists ARE all fun and love sex and all that good stuff yes we do!" So, "pro-sex feminism" was born.

But there was a problem. Deep down, they were still terrified that sex is primarily about pleasing men and this was unacceptable. The solution, then, was to make pro-sex feminism about pleasing women with the men being sexual utilities: men are to be switched-on when wanted, switched-off when not. And if the switch doesn't work, call the police.

The pro-sex wing is only "pro-" when it comes to women having sex. Men having sex? They're not quite so enthusiastic about that. That's why Laci Green and her ilk really don't give advice about things like good blow-jobs and appealing to men's preferences and stuff. That's subservient and distracts from the point: giving women what they want.

But, according to this article, men can't want to please women either. Only women should care about pleasing women and men should be utilities to that end as well.

Just my two pence.

[–]KrisK_lvin 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think that’s an interesting take on it, though I would add that (in the UK at least) class, as ever, played a significant role in the sexual revolution.

The sexual liberation of women was an odd one for the 60s generation because it mostly only affected people in the upper tiers of society - and anyone with even a passing knowledge of Noel Coward, Christopher Isherwood, Anthony Burgess, D.H. Lawrence, the Bloomsbury set etc. knows full well that having sex outside of marriage, ‘living in sin’, having ‘open relationships’ and all the rest of it was certainly not unknown.

So in the UK, I think, the ’sexual liberation’ should really have been called something like ’sexual glasnost’ because while the generations before the 60s had been just as sexually adventurous and experimental, they had always made an effort to keep it behind closed doors - being polyamorous etc. was not the sin, but doing it in public - and especially in full view of ‘the lower orders’ absolutely was.

I really don’t think it’s a coincidence at all that second wave Feminism really took off at about the same time as the pill and this gleeful rejection of traditional family models became widespread practice among working classes at the end of the 60s and in the early 70s.

The upper echelons in the UK have always despised and derided 'the lower orders' for doing what they themselves had been pioneering only a few years previously.

Well, just my two pence this time.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's interesting as well, thanks. I don't feel that I know enough about UK society (some things, but not a enough) to make commentary with any certainty.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

‘Male suicide - tragedy or just another example of men shirking their responsibilities to women?'

Don't laugh. I read an article many years ago I wish I could find again, where a feminist basically said she was APPALLED that when she went to rant about female suicide turns out men kill themselves 8/10 times compared to women. And that we as a society have fallen down because if it was 80% female there'd be special helmets in the NFL for a month, etc.

But she then went to fuck it up by saying that that's because of toxic masculinity and patriarchy and men being too macho to cry to someone wah wah wah and we men should MAN UP and bully each other to see a medic, because what good are they to the wives and daughters they leave behind, who depend on them - if they're dead.

[–]KrisK_lvin 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh, I hear you - I don’t know that particular article, but I’ve seen others which have said to the effect that men should become Feminists because once let go of their masculinity, they’ll no longer feel the need to kill themselves.

Bearing in mind that this is a worldview in which identity is privileged above pretty much all else, asking men to give up their identities such as they are is tantamount to asking them to become ‘unpeople’ witin identitarian politics.

I heat a lot of talk about they way men should stop being and behaving, but not how they should behave instead.

[–]harryballsagna 45 points46 points47 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Just say you hate men. Just title your article "I hate men so much that even when they're nice, they're assholes".

It would save us all some time.

The men who treat women decently and respectfully are the biggest bastards of all. They have impure motives, you see. Diabolical. They're crafty, scheming beasts wearing human skin like masks.

And their hearts don't pump blood. They pump a black, tar-like, viscous, oily fluid that burns holes in the floor.

Behind their backs, they hold curved knives which are thirsty for screams and their eyes are like dead pools of stagnant water which are windows to hell itself. I could write more, but it would scare the children.

Sometimes, though, I’ll hear a hetero guy talking about how important women’s pleasure is, and it leaves me cringing.

… finally get a clue and realise ‘Hey, wait just a minute - maybe the reason why Feminism isn’t working is because it doesn’t work?'

[–]chocoboat 22 points23 points24 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't forget, it's also sexist to be gay, because you're valuing women less when you don't want to sleep with them.

It's also sexist to be asexual, because you're denying women the love and physical contact of having sex with them.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Let me just ask something... according to feminists, should men have no feelings or opinions or ideas with regard to women what-so-ever, except to echo what the woman across the table from him has said?

What is a feminist-approved thing for a man to say to a woman? "Greetings, human. I have no opinions, except for the ones that you say."?

Oh, but even that would be unacceptable in some way, right?

FFS.

[–]Jacobtk 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Because no one else wrote it: who did not see that one coming?

There is ironically no way of pleasing feminists like this. They move the goal post so much that it might as well be a baton. Who was it who told men to focus on women's pleasure? Who was it who told men that giving women pleasure was the mark of true manhood? Who was it who told men that if they focusing on women's pleasure over their own that should be pleasurable to them?

Every one of those concepts comes directly from modern feminism. Now that men are willing to do, it is sexist? Because they "may be completely unaware of how, if they talk a lot about how much they enjoy seeing a woman orgasm, how hot a particular noise or movement she makes in pleasure is, and so on, they may be setting up a sense of 'do this for my pleasure' in their female partner."

Except for the part where the men cause the women to have orgasms. The women do not have to do anything. They are having something done to them. They literally only have to lie there and let the man do all the work, but still this author complains.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The author, I am willing to bet, is lousy in bed and is unwilling to actually communicate what gets her motor running. Instead, she laments the low level of education men have because they are supposed to read her mind.

And if they could read her mind, she'd complain about the invasion of privacy.

Well shit, we all have times like that mate. I lost my fiancé, job, and home all in the span of a week a few months back, but it gets better keep your chin up and always be aware of those that stick by you through the turbulence because those are the people that matter. I wish you luck and brotherly love, next time I go to the bar I'll drink one for you. Till that time I'll part with you my favorite toast.

Nah it was a mutual thing in the end. we loved each other we just weren't meant to last forever and it's better to end it before we had kids and had to go through a divorce. However are you okay brother? You seem like someone really hurt you to give you trust issues and a pessimistic attitude like that. I don't mean to come off condescending or rude, it just saddens me to hear people talk like that.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Well, right. Once you lost your job, you weren't going to be a source of cash and prizes, so she fucked off to find someone richer better.

Actually I lost my job after we split, she was an extrovert and I'm an introvert. She just wanted us to go out and do stuff together I just wanted to sit on the couch together and watch movies and shit. It happens, but for real mate you can't judge all women based on the actions of a few there are a lot of shitty people in this world. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and both genitalia.

[–]youhatetruth 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And the really crazy thing is that actual domestic violence, actual abuse, actual overt misogyny isn't talked about at all.

I think that what the author of the article must really want is to be manhandled and dominated, maybe have her hair pulled a little by a man who is focused on being a man. Then she can be a woman.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

No, they do talk about actual domestic violence, actual abuse, actual overt misogyny. But only when it comes from acceptable perpetrators.

Violence by Muslims against women can be acknowledged but only when accompanied by annoying caveats about Christians and white fraternity party-goers who are, supposedly, the vilest repositories of depravity on the planet. (Naturally, women should be perfectly free to attend those horrible, rape-filled frat parties! Don't you dare try to restrict their freedom of movement, you swine.)

The existence of lesbians who batter each other was, for many years, denied. Today, feminists deny having ever denied that. (And when you point-out articles to them which were written about this denial, the feminists will breezily claim that those articles are proof that the denial never took place, because the existence of the article shows that feminists were candid about the issue from the start. Presumably the non-existence of such articles would be damning proof that such denial actually happened? I'm not sure how you could marshal non-existent articles to prove the point, seeing as how an empty hand can't show you what it has.)

Misogynistic rap lyrics are ignored by the white sisterhood (they don't want to look racist), but when Eminem came into prominence, his misogyny was instantly decried. And songs ranging from "Blurred Lines" to "Baby, It's Cold Outside" come in for righteous foot-stomping about rape-culture while P!nk's videos in which men are brutalized or subjected to homophobic sneers are given a pass because they're good fun and she's a chick besides.

But I have to admit, I really do get the sense that behind closed doors, these feminists' tastes in the bedroom are different from what they suggest in public. I am convinced that Amanda Marcotte, to give one example, has never demanded the farce of "affirmative consent" once in her miserable, mentally-sick life.

There was a woman I knew intimately a few times. She is today an assistant professor of literature in a university and teaches with an explicitly feminist bent, able to effortlessly write reams upon reams of stuff in that vein.

In bed, she really did prefer it when the man took the lead and she was thankful that I'd broken the ice and made the first moves and so on. Afterwards, she said some words about me acting "entitled" to sex, an accusation which I found stunning at the time seeing as how we'd never had done it if I hadn't stuck my neck out.

So that's how it is with feminists. They expect-- nay, DEMAND-- that men make the first move and, when they do, sneer at them for their effrontery and being too forward, all of which is "entitlement" in their world. Their own normative situation of feeling they ought to get sexual attention-- only when wanted-- without breaking a sweat to get it and having their minds read in the process is, of course, a natural birthright and not "entitlement" in any way, shape or form. They are insane. They are barking mad. They are loopy-pants Jesus riding on the back of a Tyrannosaurus rex and shooting an Uzi in the air.

THIS IS WHAT FEMINISTS ACTUALLY BELIEVE

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Everything proves that feminism is always good and correct, except for the small fringe of bad, no-true-Scotsman feminists who blacken the good reputation of the remaining 5%.

[–]Hydris 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There was an article linked here a month or so ago where the author wrote about a date she had and basically went ballistic about a guy that ended the date because she was talking about consent and how most guys are rapists. This guy was apparently a child because he didn't feel comfortable dating a woman with a victim complex.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a good thing that nothing a woman says or does is ever a kind of microaggression. Even if it involves stuffing a baby in the microwave.

Treating a woman respectfully, on the other hand, is just a subtle and cunningly sinister form of abuse and men's complements are covert insults and to merely exist quietly in the same room with a woman is to trample her underfoot while cackling.

[–]V-Bomber 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is important not to conflate the kink of "consensual non-consent using safewords" with abuse or actual forced rough or non-consensual sex. There is enough hysteria surrounding kink and this sort of suggestion may be acted upon by those who genuinely despise women.

This is not to say that there aren't those in kink scenes who use the lifestyle as an excuse to abuse others or to force acts on them they have not consented to. Those people totally exist. Unfortunately there is somewhat of a code of silence regarding the matter.

The really messed up thing is how it immediately becomes a bad thing if the man enjoys it. Whatever it is, even a woman's own sexual pleasure, becomes bad if a man can also derive some pleasure from it. It's amazing considering how hard feminism fought to have a woman's pleasure during sex be recognized at large.

Where does it end? If I tell my SO that I'm happy and proud of her for getting a new job for finishing her degree, is there a chance my happiness will taint hers?

[–]acelister 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She will feel compelled to stop thinking of her own happiness and consider your feelings, if you voice them.

Feelings which you really shouldn't be having, I might add.

[–]garglemesh42 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Aah, now we're getting to the real issue. Men aren't allowed to have feelings. We exist to provide for women and die for them if necessary. Anything that draws attention to men's own needs and desires is taking the focus away from where it should always rightfully belong: women.

And somehow this is male privilege, not female privilege. Feminists actually believe this.

[–]gmcalabr 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

As always, take a slightly reasonable talking point and turn it into a vaguely academic-sounding dissertation on "toxic masculinity". Thinking deeply for 10 minutes to come up with an anti-male viewpoint does not make feminism academic.

[–]boshin-goshin 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Spot on. Without the need to maximize revenue with a clickbaity construction, she could have written a reasonable post.

Sure, you don't want an utterly selfish douche or an overly selfless supplicant. I get that. How about say that and leave off the pseudo-intellectual analysis?

[–]gmcalabr 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is exactly how I feel about a lot of feminist arguments. Are men being kinda selfish when they're all about women's satisfaction? Actually, sure, I get it, there's an element of machismo and braggadocia about it and all people should probably be more mature about it in general and see sex for an activity that two people simply enjoy together. Glad you brought it up.

But wait, what is this author arguing now? What, so all men who don't hold doors are assholes while simultaneously all men who hold doors are also assholes? The reality is that if you want to see evil in masculinity you'll find a way. Because all actions have negative and positive. Thats a human problem.

[–]BruceJohnJennerLawso 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What, so all men who don't hold doors are assholes while simultaneously all men who hold doors are also assholes?

Some women just aren’t willing to admit their misandry. I can tell you from personal experience that its not worth wasting time on them, it will never end well.

[–]SaiHottari 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I love how it seems utterly impossible in feminist's eyes that a man has any sense of altruistic love for another human being. But that's fine, if you're so dead-set on convincing yourselves that we are utterly without a pure motive, fixated on depriving us of any appreciation for who we are as human beings, then have fun by yourselves, Femies!

[–]garglemesh42 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Projection. Pure projection. In my experience, it is rare to meet a woman that cares as much about her partner as her male partner cares about her.

Then again, that's entirely anecdotal. I wonder if any studies have been done on that?

[–]SaiHottari 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No studies I know of, but there's been a few hypothesis on why it might be if it is the norm. Not all of them liked (for obvious reasons given the initial assumption of women caring less for men than the reverse).

The evolutionary hypothesis I've heard is thus: Because men are bigger, stronger, and less reproductively valuable, we are meant to be "disposable". We're warriors who's purpose is to be on the line for the tribes survival. Conversely, women are out of action for 9 months at a time gestating children. Their vulnerability would be a liability to the species' survival unless men were instinctively wired to protect them. A quick flip of the switch that says "protect children" so it now includes women, and here we are.

The other is much simpler: Feminism has been around too long, now we're all conditioned and indoctrinated to care about women and not give a fuck about men.

Which is true? I don't have a clue. Both are just conjecture until someone determines whether it is even true that men are more altruistic than women towards the opposite sex.

[–]Intotheloop 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Notice how she talks about her 'actual experience'. Most of this just sounds like a way of rationalizing the fact that she has slept with guys that didn't really do it for her and she subsequently found it disgusting that they tried to compensate by going the extra mile rather than naturally having what it takes to turn her on.

And then instead of chalking it up to a life experience and moving on with things as a normal person would, she chooses to see everything in life through a feminist lens and make bizarre connections that couldn't possibly be seen if she didn't have blinders on.

[–]Bearded_Deity 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Is this really surprising?

I mean, she talks about women having "anxiety" and "stress" about the "mans personal success in sex" but to that I just say...welcome to every guys life....EVER...and the stress we feel from society telling us how good men should be in bed and how any REAL man can please a woman...so is it THAT surprising when men feel as if their masculinity is tied to their ability to sexually please a woman?

She talks about how the woman sees it as a failure if she doesn't boost a man's ego with a "big showy orgasm" but if they don't orgasm, its the mans fault, and we are shamed as not being good enough.

Fucking feminists, and their bull shit, hypocritical, "I'm a child and can do/act/say whatever I want" crap.

I really hate feminists. I'm glad I married a cool woman who doesn't roll with this kind of BS.

Articles like this, just put MORE pressure on men everywhere, to be something we aren't. Women like this, expect us to be robot mind readers. Women who write crap like this don't even take in to account that ALL women are different, and what women want varies from person to person.

And really, if you're having sex, and you aren't concerned for your partners orgasm, no matter if your straight, gay, man or woman....you're probably a selfish dick. lol

[–]VinKelsier 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As someone who's had a related discussion with his wife, the author here almost had a worthy point, but then decided to push for some feminist, toxic masculinity objective instead of simply seeing an aspect of human nature that occurs between different individuals.

The type of scenario she is describing absolutely can happen, but it's not sexist in any way, and can happen in situations that are completely separate from sex altogether.

First off, we as humans, get some form of pleasure from making others happy - buying someone a present they really like, teaching someone a concept and them having that "aha!" moment, doing someone a simple favor that makes them smile. Or, wait for it, pleasing our partner in bed. It is 100% okay to get pleasure out of making another individual happy.

That said, I fully agree that someone can see that pleasure, then themselves try to hard by following this concept themselves, which, in regards to sex, can create an issue. But this has nothing to do with masculinity. The guy takes pleasure from making the girl happy. The girl notices he's happy doing this, so she tries harder to make him happy in whatever form was discussed in this article, which then causes him to think she's even happier, and the cycle continues. The eventual dissatisfaction is something that occurs within the woman's mind here (but it is real), not something related to "toxic masculinity."

The moral of the story here is people should talk it out and come to an understanding. I'd guess, the truth of the matter is in most guys' situations (saying this as a guy who feels this way) is that they legitimately want their partner to feel as good as she can during whatever sexual encounters occur - if that doesn't mean orgasm on a certain day, totally fine, he wants her to be as happy as she can be. There's a false assumption that orgasm is always the most happy, that I'm sure some people can fall for.

It is obviously totally fine for a guy to want this for his partner, and it's obviously not a selfish idea, DESPITE THE FACT that he can take pleasure from her being happy.

And again, this translates into so many nonsexual aspects of life. My wife and I have 2 kids, and we are both incredibly happy when we see them happy and excited about well, anything. It isn't selfish of us to take pleasure in our children being happy.

I know most people on here agree, but I feel most responses have been sarcastic responses that ignore both the fact she does have a point worth mentioning (minus the feminism aspect) and also miss the core problem in what she wrote (though touch on the larger picture).

[–]Savor_The_Flavor 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Does anyone else feel like the 3 "points" we're really just one point that was elaborated on to one degree or another?

Why is it suddenly wrong to take pleasure in a job well done? Especially when there is so much pressure on males to perform well sexually in the first place. Youre damn skippy that guys tend to be happy and proud when we have given our significant others an orgasm. Let's be honest here guys, for most of us, that doesn't happen every time. So now it's wrong for me to be happy and even relieved when things work at optimal capacity?

If we don't perform well enough, we are likely targets of whispers and ridicule. If we do perform well and acknowledge that, it's "toxic masculinity" all the sudden?

Also, so what if guys like to give oral and are willing to discuss it? I've heard plenty of women announce that they like to give blowjobs. Should I consider that "toxic feminism"?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Females need to do something other than to simply lay there in bed, so they should participate in their pleasure-seeking. Maybe hop on top and actually work for their pleasure.

What if men blamed women and said: Women take way to long to climax, so what's wrong with them that it takes them so long? Are they that inept at even sex like everything else they endeavor?

Stop placing your pleasure expectations and blame on someone else.

Did anyone actually read this article? If you did and can look pass all the bullshit politically correct nonsense she tries to include, you would realize that this is actually a pretty decent article that doesn't necessarily hate on guys.

Their are a lot of guys out their that take so much pride and pleasure from performing well in the sack that it can leave their partner feeling more like a trophy.

I used to be one of those guys, with my wife, she taught me that being great in bed is more then about what you as an individual can do for your partner, but making sure to maintain that emotionally hot connection.

Which is kind of the main point of this article. Down vote away, but if you look in my post history you will see I am a big supporter of Men's Rights.

Presumably, that is a more horrible thing than the not-insignificant number of women who are lazy and selfish in bed. That doesn't rank high enough to deserve the term 'toxic' at all and who cares what the effects are on others. Acknowledging them would be distracting from the all-important point of dumping on men whether they are entering the room or leaving the room or not even being in the room.
