Ananna Zaman, YUSU Women’s Officer and one of the signatories of the letter, rejected an idea to create a Men’s Officer role. She said: “When you’ve got 4 out 5 Sabbatical officers who to my knowledge are cis men and when there are 9 colleges with male welfare representatives, what more of a team could you need to help you address issues faced by men?”

Of course she pulled the old "here are some old men that do stuff, and of course if a man is in power they will regardless of role or political affiliation advocate for men" card. It's nothing more than misdirection and unfortunately a very rhetorically effective one.

A University spokesperson said: “We have withdrawn the original statement about International Men’s Day, and do not propose to mark this event formally. In gender equality, our main focus has been, and will continue to be, on the inequalities faced by women, such as under-representation in the professoriate.

But not...

"In academic staff appointments, the data suggests that female candidates have a higher chance of being appointed than men. In the professional support services, there are areas where men are significantly under-represented. Likewise in academic departments, the support staff complement is often heavily weighted towards women, with some departments employing no men at all in these roles.”

According to its official UK website, ‘International Men’s Day’ exists to raise awareness of global issues facing men and boys, and to ‘celebrate the contribution that men make.’ It does not, however, seek a dialogue on such issues with women’s equality campaigns or initiatives.

Translation: "It doesn't include our view points"

Nor does it acknowledge that the patriarchal structures which underpin society are inimical to both male and female advancement and well-being, or that the achievements of men are celebrated and disproportionately highlighted as a matter of course. We believe in a critical approach towards equality and diversity, which seeks to understand the structural causes of disadvantage.

Translation: "It doesn't include our view points"

Retrograde statements like this show a profound lack of understanding on issues surrounding masculinity.

Translation: "It doesn't include our view points on this."

A day that celebrates men’s issues – especially those outlined in the University’s statement – does not combat inequality, but merely amplifies existing, structurally imposed, inequalities

Translation: acknowledging men's issues hurts women; equality is apparently a zero sum game.

The closing remark – ‘gender equality is for everyone’ – echoes misogynistic rhetoric that men’s issues have been drowned out by the focus on women’s rights.

Translation: "Claiming the focus is disproportionately on women to the exclusion of men is sexist, even if this very letter seeks to drown out men's issues for the sake of focusing on women."

and the continuing marginalisation of women in academic roles. Within this context, the Equality and Diversity Committee statement’s generalised references to ‘raising awareness about – and removing barriers for – women’ fails to acknowledge the full implications of gender bias against women within the institution.

Translation: "We don't see any possible connection between 'lowering barriers' and marginalising the women for whom those barriers were lowered. It could not be possible to diversity for diversity's sake subverting merit would be a factor in questioning the merit of certain appointments."

We recognise that patriarchy is damaging to both men and women, and we are in support of a discussion concerning this, as well as increased attention to specific issues surrounding men’s health.

Translation: We are totally okay with a discussion as long as it is limited to the parameters of our worldview.

The failure of the Equality and Diversity Committee to do so undermines their self-proclaimed commitment to gender equality, and leaves us deeply concerned that their supposed investment in women’s rights is mere lip service.

Translation: "I hope you don't see the blatant projection in this statement."

This is all par for the course for academic feminism. They have a certain lens through which the world is interpreted-which on its own is fine. They then object to any criticism of the limitations or flaws with that lens, reject any conclusion that does not comport with conclusions drawn without that lens, and accuse any dissent as sexist or not being serious about equality. Afterall, the feminists are serious about equality and if you disagree with them then you must disagree with equality.

They're not interested in the truth. They're interested in whatever will confirm their bias, and are emboldened by their self righteous crusade. They sometimes double up and also have a victim complex so anyone who disagrees with them makes them feel victimized, further vindicating their victim complex-and making them feel they're fightin' the good fight by attacking their "victimizers".

The degree of childish narcissism would be hilarious if it didn't work so often. These tactics will continue to be used as long as people cowtow to them.

The closing remark – ‘gender equality is for everyone’ – echoes misogynistic rhetoric that men’s issues have been drowned out by the focus on women’s rights.

The doublethink here is maddening.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points32 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They shut down a discussion on men's issues because it doesn't focus on women, and then wonder where that rhetoric comes from? How retarded are these people?

[–]SideTraKd 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The fact that they're saying that in a letter that is specifically designed to shut down discussion on men's issues is mind-boggling.

[–][deleted] 80 points81 points82 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And people tell me I'm full of shit when I say feminism is in charge and feminism HATES men.

I literally agree with every post of your's.

[–]probpoopin 29 points30 points31 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The men's group has a profound lack of understanding about masculinity? Holy shit. That has got to take some serious logical gymnastics to come to that conclusion.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 27 points28 points29 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Feminists are quick to denounce any man who speaks on the experience of women-that doesn't comport with their narrative -but have no qualms speaking on the experiences of men.

[–]probpoopin 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. Men have no right to tell women about feminism, how could we as men possibly understand? Flip the script and have a men's group shut down a feminist group because they are profoundly misunderstanding how to be feminine, and you are gonna have problems. The feminist group is banned from speaking because we believe they don't understand what it means to be a woman...

It's not, though; it's just a term used to contrast "trans."

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Do you get offended when someone calls you "white" or "male" or "tall" or "dark-haired"? Cis can be used in a disparaging way, just like transphobes can use "trans" in a disparaging way, but the term itself is purely descriptive and not inherently offensive. It's just a prefix opposite to trans, used frequently in organic chemistry to refer to a molecule's chirality. Is it offensive to the molecules?

What I can't understand is why feminists actively campaign AGAINST men's issues. How can the general public NOT see the movement past the misandry? I just started a new hashtag on Twitter #thisisthereasonemmawatson - who was confused about why they are seen as man hating.

what is even more puzzling is why MRAs keep insisting on treating feminists as partners in their fight. I keep bringing this up and getting downvoted but it remains true that feminists are against men. They are the enemy but a lot of MRAs are too scared to even acknowledge that fact.

The only feminists worth courting as allies are, paradoxically, professional feminists. The ones with influence in schools, government, and media. Most, however, have an incentive not to examine their ideology, because of their personal psychology or fear of losing financial/job security. Cassie Jayes are a tiny minority of professional feminists and a tiny, tiny minority of feminists overall. Even in Jaye's case I'm not personally familiar enough with her beliefs to call her an "enlightened feminist".

Feminism is an ideology that claims all men oppress all women for their sole benefit, and I'm not going to try to find common ground with the bigots who subscribe to that line of thinking. If one day they decide to check to see if reality matches their beliefs the information is out there. But I'm not going out of my way to maybe, hopefully, sorta convince someone that feels justified in redefining the entire dictionary to fit their narrative and excuse their hatred of half the population. It's a waste of time and a distraction, and it's the sort of self-censorship and concession that feminism thrives on.

[–]wanderer779 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

thank you, said it better than I could.

[–][deleted] 65 points66 points67 points 10 years ago (51 children) | Copy Link

I actually went over to men's lib to see how this went over, considering it was feminists that are behind it being canceled and I know that sub is infested with male feminists claiming to care about men's rights.

Anyway, as I expected they're blaming the men's rights movement for hating women.

Amazing.

[–][deleted] 45 points46 points47 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Men's Lib has NOTHING to do with men's rights. It's basically men sitting around trying to be Women's Libbers and so forth.

Remember, their prime directive - is to never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, criticise feminism. Insta-ban if you do.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points23 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I'm aware what the sub is, it's just a sub a few feminists made in an attempt to hijack any men's rights issues.

The point is feminists are literally to blame for this one and they somehow managed to spin it like it was the fault of MRAs, thats why it was canceled.

The entire sub is a cancer, the entire point of that sub is to defend feminism.

[–]DillipFayKick 14 points15 points16 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I feel like the entire point of nearly every sub-reddit is to defend feminism. There are even SJW/feminist types in here waiting for someone to say the wrong thing and then try to re-educate that person. Thankfully the majority of r/mensrights and r/kotakuinaction are not.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The point is feminists are literally to blame for this one and they somehow managed to spin it like it was the fault of MRAs, thats why it was canceled.

They're to blame, but they don't see any fault in this: because after all, helping men is inherently evil because not all women are on pedastals yet.

[–]bub_rub 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What's funny is when the sub first started they made a thread on /r/feminism promoting it that pretty much began with... "We're temporarily breaking the rules of the sub to allow for discussion of men's issues".

Wait, what? I've seen feminists on reddit say countless times that they are fighting for men's and women's issues. But the primary sub for feminism doesn't allow for discussion of men's issues? THESE are the people we're supposed to trust to bring gender equality about? Okay...

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The feminism sub is moderated by a rabid moron that most people think is a troll.

He's absolutely off his rocker.

[–]Naftoid 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think it was started by an actual SRSer, and most of the early members were either SRS or subreddit drama. There are some valid criticisms of /r/mensrights, and regardless of how the sub is run there are always going to be downsides of a 120k+ subscriber subreddit. If anybody is looking for a smaller, more tightly moderated subreddit that is ACTUALLY about men's rights, I've been reviving /r/masculism. It was created by an MRA and used to have a lot of /r/mensrights posters there too, but kind of died down in the last year or so. They don't really allow circle-jerky "anti-feminism for the sake of anti-feminism" posts, but /r/masculism also doesn't pretend that feminism has never opposed men's rights either.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think it was started by an actual SRSer,

You DON'T SAY

Like SRSMen wasn't enough?

[–]tio1w 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wait a minute.

That sub is real?!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, go check it out. It's basically "you as a man will have a better life once you become a feminist."

[–]Black_caped_man 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I keep scratching my head about that sub, it seems so paradoxical to me in a way. I mean I can sort of understand it as some sort of secular way of practicing feminism, but at the same time not really.

The OP in the thread about this topic and some of the ones who replied were thankfully still pretty pissed about this outcome. It's funny how they can be baffled about it though, since whether you are feminist or not this should not be surprising in the least.

Maybe I'm just naive in trying to make sense of it all.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I post there because i'm sick of pretty much every other sub upvoting comments stating that we live in a matriarchy, that women have actually never been oppressed, and that false rape accusations are more damaging than actual rape.

The discourse there is much, much more civil, with orders of magnitude less "stupid cunt/bitch"'s thrown around.

[–]rottingchrist 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"Downplaying of men's issues is an acceptable trade for not having to hear unpleasant women be sometimes called bitches"

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

First of all, thanks for validating the first paragraph.

Second of all, how does that sub downplay mens issues? It's a sub about mens issues! And i'm allowed to not like hanging around somewhere that consistently calls women cunts and bitches.

At least when I was there.

It even got posted to /r/srssucks and it's saying the exact same thing.

Anyone here, go read the thread and tell me what you see, it's literally them blaming the MRA movement and a bunch of male feminists agreeing.

Maybe it should spend less time getting outraged that Mad Max had a woman more vocal than the titular character

Um, that was from "Return of Kings", an ANTI-MRA website. Are you really so clueless or desperate that you can't argue with us based on our actual positions?

[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I guess you didn't follow the media around the time that article was published.

[–]_Nces 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I guess you didn't follow the media around the time that article was published.

Actually I did. And that's the point. A single clown on ROK posted an article questioning whether the new Mad Max would be "feminist." ROK is an ANTI-MRA website. They consider us "beta males." Cue a thousand feminists writing articles suggesting that "MRA's" were organizing a "boycott" of the Mad Max film. Based on one guy. No such campaign existed. It was just the 1000th example of feminists lying about MRA's because they are frightened of real equality.

[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just checking, you did get the sarcasm in that, right? I'd assume you did but this sub seems to enjoy putting words in my mouth left and right centre so i thought i'd make sure for my own piece of mind.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not anti-Menslib like so many around here, and I agree with you that the civil atmosphere there facilitates discussion that often isn't possible here at MR.

But the Mad Max thing had nothing to do with MRAs. He's right. It was gender traditionalists at ROK - who explicitly disavow any connection with the MRM and who's views aren't representative of MRAs. The media misrepresented the story and pinned it on MRAs. They didn't check their facts.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, i'm happy to put blame on the MRA movement in part for what's happened at University of York. Maybe it should spend less time getting outraged that Mad Max had a woman more vocal than the titular character, and focus on changing stuff.

Yes, the MRA movement is behind a bunch of whiny feminists crying over men's day, CLEARLY.

What a joke, male feminists are the lowest of the low, depressing.

I'm not even outraged, it's just hilarious watching this mental gymnastics being used to deflect any and all blame when a feminist is involved.

How are you so adept at putting words in my mouth? It's pretty impressive.

The comments in the thread are literally saying it's the fault of the MRM.

I didn't say, not once, in any of the hundred comments i've made about this issue in the past 24 hours, that the MRA movement is behind the feminists making the complaints.

I said the people at men's lib blamed the MRM, and you said that wasn't true.

Is it or is it not true?

It should be pretty obvious to anybody that isn't blinded by hatred that i'm saying that the perception of a supposed intentional mens day, and of the mens rights advancement movement in general, has been sullied by the actions of many in the MRM. That's it.

I don't hate anyone at all, and what actions is it you speak of? I keep hearing about how awful the MRM yet I can't find anything showcasing this, but I can find hundreds of protests and horrible things being said/done by feminists, and we aren't canceling women's day are we?

I'm fully away of the perception, and that perception is 100% fabricated by feminists that just can't accept men wanting to have their own movement.

Give me a list of these bad things we've done.

Clearly you hate feminists, and feminism.

Don't hate feminists, hate feminism because it's a toxic cult.

If MRAs weren't associated with things like Notallmen

"Citation required" Feminists love to claim the MRM is some how redpill/a bunch of other things, that doesn't make it true.

didn't derail discussion about FGM and rape into false accusations and circumcision

"Citation required" the only people derailing ANY discussion about any of these issues = feminists, what you mean by derail is try to raise awareness about issues men face, but we can't have that can we.

and didn't seem to always be so bizarrely angry at "SJWs"

Everyone is mad at SJWs, they're in the national spotlight and are hated by everyone that learns about them.

So.

It's "Ekwality" ye shitlord, that is if you are referencing the video posted a few days ago.

[–]Saerain 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or, to be Colbert-esque, "equalitiness".

[–][deleted] 56 points57 points58 points 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I'm actually really impressed with the ability feminism has to prop up this narrative that women are somehow doing worse than men in western countries.

Say what you want, but they're amazing in the propaganda department.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Or suggesting that because they're still hacking off clitorises in the South Sudan, WE NEED MORE FEMINISM IN THE FIRST WORLD.

[–]bub_rub 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Or, every time someone says something sexist against women, "This is why we need feminism." But if someone says something against men, for some reason "This is why we need the men's right movement" doesn't fly.

[–]Fermit 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, duh. People saying things about men is a side-effect of the patriarchy which is the fault of men so men should shut the fuck up and join feminism so we can dismantle the patriarchy (even though pop-feminism focuses solely on women's issues). It's all men's fault.

[–]azazelcrowley 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I just posted on this, but basically, feminism relies on both genders willingness to think poorly of men and believe demonizing lies about them. It grossly mischaracterizes mens behavior and thoughts.

Women buy into it because of otherization and dehumanization, and providing them an ability to blame their failures on men.

Men buy into it because they hear all the stupid shit feminists say, realize that it doesn't describe them, and think "Wow, I must be one of the minority of men who aren't shitlords!"

The feminist lies are extremely transparent. It's just that both genders have their egos bound up in believing those lies, hence why they are so hysterical about resisting attempts to expose the truth.

That no, your fuck ups are your own fault, and no, you're an average guy.

You don't have to come up with very convincing lies that stand up to even the most basic amount of scrutiny, is what I learned from feminism. You just have to come up with lies that people desperately want to believe, even if a casual google search will prove you wrong.

Most people won't conduct the search, and will get really angry at those who do. This also explains why so many of the often touted stats and studies feminists use don't stand up to even the barest amount of scrutiny.

Whether that's good propaganda or not, I don't know, but it's clearly how it works, given the transparency of the lies.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men buy into it because they hear all the stupid shit feminists say, realize that it doesn't describe them, and think "Wow, I must be one of the minority of men who aren't shitlords!"

Yep, the One Good Man effect is ol' reliable for feminism at this point.

[–]_Nces 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

they're amazing in the propaganda department.

Not really. Their propaganda is actually pretty silly. It's just that both men and women are more concerned about women than men, so it is nevertheless effective.

[–]AloysiusC 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Under normal circumstances you'd be right, but they're just playing off of primitive instincts. It's like religion being the ultimate insurance ad. It's easy to sell this stuff. And feminism doesn't even have a competing religion.

[–]ralphswanson 16 points17 points18 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If feminism were about equality, they would encourage men's rights, even if they disagreed with some details, because it would be another path to equality.

Feminism has monopolized the gender discussion in academia for a half century, and they have used that monopoly to dishonestly paint women as victims and men as privileged and powerful. They are fighting to preserve this monopoly because of the privileges and respect it grants them, particularly professional feminists. But in reality women are no victims. Women are half the functional billionaires. All laws in the west that discriminate favor women. Women benefit from affirmative action, almost all gendered scholarships and programs, and are favored by HR departments and law courts. Meanwhile, men dominate the homeless, suicides, murder victims, prisons, custody losers, school dropouts and workplace fatalities. Feminists are fighting to stop a balanced view of gender. They are fighting to maintain their unjust privileges.

[–]Griever114 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The main focus of our gender equality work will continue to be on the inequalities faced by women

Did you see one of the comments on that page - equating the day to a "white proud" day? I won't even ask if people are this stupid.

[–]FastFourierTerraform 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What's wrong with a white pride day? It's not even advocacy- just one day to point out, "hey, I know we spend 13 years of education teaching that white people are literally the devil, but they're actually pretty ok and have some really cool cultures"

[–]_Nces 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

If we lived in 1950's America I would have disagreed with that sentiment. But we are now living in era when poor white boys are falling behind minority boys in the UK. Why? Because everyone else is catered to except white boys (not including rich white boys). This is the natural end-result of identity politics. It doesn't solve discrimination, it just creates new forms of discrimination.

Poor white boys get 'a worse start in life' says equality report

http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/34667100/poor-white-boys-get-a-worse-start-in-life-says-equality-report

Feminism is entirely to blame. They turn "white men" and "white boys" into categories rather than human beings.

[–]Greg_W_Allan 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The engagement of any class political ideology in governance, systems, service provision etc will always lead to exclusion. There is no more clear example than in service provision for victims of abuse. Virtually all taxpayer funding in the western world has gone to feminist and womens' groups. For periods of up to half a century virtually all those services have excluded boys and men, their status as actual victims notwithstanding. Most continue to do so.

The sexual abuse and domestic violence sectors are actually well worth analysing as an example of how feminist governance does, or will, work. It displays ALL the characteristics feminism attributes to "patriarchy". It's also why I continually point to projection.

[–]TedTheAtheist 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]JayBopara 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

To quote from the comments:

“We believe that men’s issues cannot be approached in the same way as unfairness and discrimination towards women, because women are structurally unequal to men.”

Feminist Sacred Babble

“We recognise that patriarchy is damaging to both men and women, and we are in support of a discussion concerning this…”

We can talk about it within the feminist framework.

“We do not, however, believe that the university statement engages with these complex issues with sufficient nuance or understanding.”

Any other way to do it is wrongthink!

[–]Lethn 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All this translates to is unless you discuss gender issues within the narrative of feminism and allow us into the conversation we'll shut you down.

Their comments really need to be posted to any feminists who are trying to claim they want to talk about men's issues, where the fuck is that ee4m guy in all of this? I've noticed that they seem to have quietly slinked off now that this subject has been brought up.

Finishes with an apparent threat from Fathers4Justice followed directly by the university will 'probably not host international men's day next year'.

The "threat" in question was that they might protest. Is protest only permitted when the participants are feminist?

[–]Lethn 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I love that one of the comments was an Anarchist :D we're everywhere ;) It's actually pretty good to see there's a backlash against this and also that we have some real representation on the media that can't be censored very easily.

[–]joewilson-MRA 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely true.

[–]_Nces 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It actually says "Minarchist," aka an advocate of "small" government (I'm not sure such a thing is possible for any length of time).

[–]Lethn 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There are many different branches of Anarchism and yes, that's a thing, it's a bit like Libertarianism but obviously it will be without all the taxation and such. Also, it's a fairly sound idea, because if you have lots and lots of local governments then nobody can just easily take over or just command everybody to do something by killing somebody off or taking an important position.

America used to work on this kind of principle with state and local governments but with the expansion of the fed that's quickly becoming obselete and people are actually embracing it. In fact, I think this is actually a tactic that MRAs use because there are so many who want to discuss men's isuses outside the feminist ideology because realistically there aren't that many and if we spread everything out they won't be able to form their mobs as easily to stop people.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am disgusted but not at all surprised. Feminism and all the goodies that rank & file female humans are recipients of in its name can see the world getting sick of their bullshit. They simply cannot have 1) Men being humanized with discussions of male vulnerability and 2), by the very same token, are even more afraid of a movement lauding the good things about men because that alone negates much of their message. There are a lot if you allow yourself to think about it.

More of the "control the discussion until people get bored and quit paying attention".

I think number 2 is the most important to Feminism.

I was subbed to there for whatever reason and realised I couldn't post there one day. I logged into an alt account and realised I could. [–]Bearded_Deity 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yea, lets use "gender inequality" as an excuse to ignore gender inequalities (about men). Because well...lets be honest...we men are worthless, and pretty much good for nothing. How could we ever be discriminated against in divorce courts? Or sexual abuse cases? Or pretty much ANY societal situation....EVER.....

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It does not, however, seek a dialogue on such issues with women’s equality campaigns or initiatives.

>International Men's Day

> must talk about women

What the fuck.

[–]OneGirlArmy 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I don't understand why we need a Men's or Women's day.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (9 children) | Copy Link

Because women are systematically oppressed in many, many nations, and men face issues that much of society hasn't been made aware of.

[–]Imnotmrabut[S] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

....much of society hasn't been made aware of to care about.

Fixed It!

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

So...you're in MR saying that society shouldn't put any care towards male gender issues? What?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm pretty sure what they are saying the problem isn't that men's issues haven't been made apparent, but that people don't generally care about them.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

People not caring about stuff is literally the reason that awareness campaigns exist. Nobody cared about women's rights before feminism, nobody really knew what ALS was until that whole thing.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I didn't see any organizations banning events or discussions of ALS. Maybe there's aren't enough people who are aware of and take seriously men's issues, but there are enough that outright deny those issues need to be addressed, causing the issues to be mocked or ignored.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure you know what you're arguing against.

I'm saying international mens day is a good thing. People here seem to be disagreeing with that.
