I’ll try to keep this as short as possible but I’m currently at the beginning stages of divorce without either one of us reaching out for legal consul yet. I 30M and soon to be ex wife 29F have been married just over 5 years and we have two kids together. Just from what I have heard it sounds like assets will be split 50/50. I currently have around 90k between checking and savings and we just bought a house where we put 72k down. Am I correct to think that I will have to give her half of the 90k plus half of the 72k down payment on the house. I don’t know if it matters but she is a sahm and is currently going back to school while watching our daughter while I work 8-5. If I do the calculations on il website and input my income and hers with everything i pay such as daycare for our other child and healthcare it’s calculating out to be 900/mo in child support. In 6 months she will be done with her masters and has potential to make 100k plus but with the timing I’m concerned she won’t go back to work and just continue to live off of half of what I think I will have to give her plus the child support. Am I thinking about this correctly? 45K plus 37k which is 82k going to her????

Edit: my current approach is to individually talk to an attorney but on the other hand I’m telling her that we should do mediation which will keep both of us from throwing all our money to lawyers. She is in agreement with this approach and we are in agreement of a 50/50 custody split.
