Yeah i’ve been through this exact phase, and I remember standing there thinking, how am I even supposed to divide a whole life into two apartments? It’s not really about the stuff it’s about what the stuff represents.

My ex-wife is the one that moved out and I let her take what she needed just to speed the process. I even helped load her U-Haul and drove it to her apartment and lugged all her shit up 4 flights of stairs. That's how bad I wanted her cheating ass out.

In the end you can get all that shit on FB marketplace for cheap.

My lawyer said if it’s under 500 bucks don’t waste the time/lawyer fees arguing about it. I would suggest you get your home office setup, any personal belongings you’re attached to, some of the kids stuff to make them feel at home in the new place and let her pay you out for some of the other big ticket things. But especially if she’s buying you out of the house you’re gonna have money on hand to get new stuff so why waste time arguing about little shit.

I'm in exact scenario and I plan splitting things down to the forks and knives, not to be petty but she is staying in same place and I'm starting new. I either pay for all new stuff again and take money out my pocket to do so or I be smart and make sure we are both replacing something or better if possible we just have less than before. Now big items I plan taking tvs and already bought new bed so letting her keep our old bed and frame. I plan to ask for equity on some other items because I don't want to take something as they are 6yrs old used up. And others like snow blower, lawn mower she needs but I won't at apartment so I just say they are worth X dollars and ask for half of that in equity. So let's say house refinanced any my half is 60k I ask 65k to cover the 5k in all are marital assets. For small stuff I plan have 50% custody with my kid so I need my place to be fully functional day one so that means leaving with half toilet paper, half spice rack , half food. Seriously why should I have to pay a penny because she wanted to split up are family to sleep around. Now if we both moving out things get all messed up as then no one will need half the stuff, no one will want move the old stuff to new place. So then we just have to sell everything for cheap and both get stuck paying out pocket for new furnishings. It's a mess and definitely something she didn't give a single second to consider before she had affair.

Keep what's valuable and that you really need. Don't load yourself down with stuff you aren't sure you need. Decent stuff is often available in Goodwill stores. The two I've gone to had dishes, utensils, some furniture, some kitchen appliances like microwaves, coffee makers, and electric grills.

My ex moved out - I let her have whatever she wanted. Couches and whatnot are easily replaceable and in my circumstance, I replaced with whatever I wanted.

If you're moving out, take what fits.

Most of the stuff in your home was probably furnished by your wife. I know mine was. Let her take it, and keep the things that you use like your dresser, computer desk, etc. With your kids, mine were thrilled to get a new bed, new desk, etc and loved picking them out. Make it an event with them.

I gave my wife 90% of the housewares. I kept a couple of knives, basic utility stuff, and our plates, glasses and utensils. I packed up everything else and staged it in the garage for her to take one weekend when she had to travel for work. I don't miss any of her crap. I bought new furniture for my living room, a functional dining room table and a simple bed with nightstands. No more dining hutch filled to the brim with china plates that never got used, hallelejah. I don't know why women like that crap so much.

It’s just stuff. Divorce is an opportunity to downsize on a lot of things you don’t actually need. It’s very liberating.

I took very little from the house I shared with my ex. I don’t need the reminders.

The actual value of the furniture, etc. is probably pretty low. It’ll be market value not replacement. I kept the house. She took some of the furniture that I didn’t want, but we never argued over the value of any of that.

I stayed in the house…told her to take whatever she wanted, what was left was mine to dispose of or keep. I knew she wouldn’t take much because nothing was good enough for her anymore and too lazy to move it, I even offered to split movers cost. We then agreed to $5k from joint saving so she could buy the kids bedroom furniture or whatever. Good with me! Can’t wait to spring clean the junk she left behind to cleanse my soul!

Try to take anything sentimental with you and anything you want that she doesn’t want, otherwise start over. It’s not worth fighting over this stuff as it’s legal fees and garage sale pricing.

I found it enjoyable to start fresh with “stuff”.
