When men have one bad experience with a woman it's thousands of upvotes and an echo chamber of "women are just as bad as men". When a thousand women have bad experiences with several men it's "not all men".

Why are some men so obsessed to keep women's standards as low as possible?

I used to go to Starbucks often & the cute barista would always write my name with a heart on it. I asked once about a little treat that comes w/ coffee and he always remembered it & gave me more than he was allowed. Every. Time. If a random guy can do this ur bf can remember the things you like

Men are NOT socialized to not speak up for themselves. They are also massively stronger and faster than us. To anyone with functioning brain cells, the difference is absolutely clear.

Also when 96-99% of ALL rape is committed by men, we don’t need to teach women about consent bc clearly we already respect it.

Edit: I’ve stickied this comment bc I’ve had enough of the derailing and gaslighting for bOtH sides. It’s clear. Read the handbook and rules of the subreddit.

[–]FrequentPoetry82 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

cue entire thread are men circlejerking and saying wOmEn nEvEr aSk fOr cOnSeNt

but they WILL turn around the same moment a woman speaks up about being sexually harassed and say "i cant even get near women! EVERYTHING is harassment!"

vast majority of men on reddit... why do they exist if not to cry about everything and then complain about how men cant cry 🤩 im glad some men were calling her out lmaooo at least some sanity in that clusterfuck

[–]Charming-Bee-233727 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

What were the ones calling her out saying?

[–]FrequentPoetry72 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

this is one of them

"He thanks you constantly for asking for consent? This is so fucking weird. Seriously get off Reddit for a while. People don't actually do this. Talk about making something out of nothing. Just start and if he is not in the mood he'll let you know.

It's just nerds here blowing the consent thing out of proportion. From the male side I mean. It doesn't have to be verbal. It'll be obvious if you don't wanna have sex. She'll stop then. And if she doesn't then sort it out or leave if it annoys you. You're hardly gonna be overpowered. Stop acting like victims. Stop acting like it's an actual traumatic experience. Retroactively claiming abuse. Completely just looking for attention and sympathy over nothing."

some men were saying that consent is implied, asking for it is a turnoff etc*

[–]yoursultana58 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That’s what makes me think that’s a troll post. No one fucking does that after every move. Holy shit. Also, even men KNOW purely from body language that women do NOT consent- they just pretend like they don’t. They’re called rapists. If you tell a rapist no, he’s still going to rape you. It’s not their fucking kryptonite.

[–]FrequentPoetry33 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

sadly ive seen this kind of thing often enough to know its not a troll post lmao men on reddit will stop anything they're doing to complain about women oppressing them

[–]LadyKaitlyn11 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

LOL right! 😂 If only it was as easy for us as just saying “Rapist, no raping!”

[–]dkwantsdk11 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Thank you for stickying this comment. The both sides argument is so pervasive that otherwise smart people get caught equating individual interactions ("is my partner present and available emotionally?") with systems of oppression and domination. Rape culture is not a buzz phrase - it is the normalization of sexual violence against WOMEN.

[–]dkwantsdkFDS Newbie 120 points121 points122 points 5 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Won't someone think of the men and all their imaginary problems!

Let me know when AskMen or any other male focused reddit asks the same question about respecting and making space for a woman's consent with as many rewards.

I swear whenever I read a (I am a woman) comment on reddit I just automatically assume it is a man in disguise.

Woah this struck a nerve for me. I was abused by my father under my mother's nose and rather than protecting me, she started treating me like "the other woman." I was 14. Pickme behavior is just as dangerous as abusive male behavior and wow my mind is blown at the thought.

[–]flourishingreally8 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

God, I am so sorry to hear that. One of my childhood friends was in a similar scenario - stepdad was abusing her and her older sister. When her mom found out, rather than protecting them, she threw out their play-pretend dress-up clothes and outlawed games of dress-up. Which of course did nothing to curtail the abuse. Horrifying.

Actually once when I was high with my lvm ex he kissed me aggressively and when I kissed him back he freaked out threw me off him and was like “I didn’t consent to that wtf” but was also giggling and making fun of how horny I was....he seemed to be trying to do some psychological revenge thing but I was so high at the time I just freaked out and cried for forgiveness until he forgave me. Next morning I awoke to a while speech on consent and how males don’t get asked but here’s the kicker; when my little pickme ass agreed and we got up to get breakfast he smacked my ass. So. Fuck this bs. Men will victimize women and call themselves the victims.

[–]BezzazzFDS Newbie 53 points54 points55 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I've actually had a similar situation!! He fed me shots of hard liquor after I said I would have one drink. Then we cuddled in his bed and he started shoving his nasty tongue down my throat and groping me. So I groped him back, and then he freaked out. So I stopped...then he started doing that again, so I touched him back, again, and he freaked out, again. I think after that I just passed out because I don't remember anything, just waking up alone and confused at 2am.

To this day I'm extremely confused. I stopped when he told me to stop, but... then he started touching me again after that??? I truly don't have any idea what that was about. Idk if it was like your situation or not, but I've always felt guilty and confused about it.

[–]eatnthrowtrashawayFDS Newbie 35 points36 points37 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m glad someone else can relate because your situation sounds extremely similar to mine and I felt guilty about it for a whole year truly believing I assaulted him in some way.

Recently though, I’ve realized it was likely a form of manipulation on his part as I think he wanted to make me suffer the way he felt he suffered when I denied him consent. The only times I did that were when I refused bjs on my period, but I think that was enough to set him off.

He was a super “woke” feminist guy too so I was so worried but the true fact is: he initiated it, he was sober when I wasn’t, he also was a 25 year old man and I was a teenage girl. I truly think when men do this move it’s to manipulate you emotionally into thinking your a bad person. He would always bring it up too as if he didn’t kiss me in the first place. It made me so nervous so I understand how you feel exactly.

[–]shortywannarockFDS Newbie 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He was hoping you’d be too drunk to resist; he was trying to rape you but your consent was getting in the way.

[–]ScallionOk958 14 points15 points16 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is so confusing

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the way he intended it

[–]iaintgonnacallyouFDS Newbie 12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This reminded me of Promising Young Woman. Men would literally throw themselves onto the main character but once they realized she wasn’t as drunk as they thought, their whole tone changed to victim status and the gaslighting started.

[–]2340000FDS Apprentice 16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One of the hardest things to learn is men prefer rape and assault. If they wanted our consent, they'd ask for it. It's a hatred driven desire for power and control.

[–]LilithWonFDS STRATEGY COACH 260 points261 points262 points 5 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

I rolled my eyes so hard when I saw this one 🙄

Probably 40% of ALL of the times I have EVER had sex, was not consensual. Most of those times were when I was in a relationship: my boyfriend wanted sex but I didn't, so he would just badger me until I relented because it was easier to just let him fuck me than to put up a fight. (I know, this was pre FDS and I had weak boundaries, should have just dumped them).

Now I'm just imagining stopping my rapist like "hey, are you consenting to this?" and him giving me a weird look like "uh, yeah, I am literally forcing myself on you right now, of course I want it"

That OP was definitely not written by a woman. It's just so insulting and completely ignorant of a woman's real experiences navigating sex with men. Probably some incel writing whataboutthemenz fanfiction.

[–]eyeroll_cityFDS Newbie 55 points56 points57 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ugh such an eye roll when I saw this posted too. Same thoughts here, this was not posted by a woman.

[–][deleted] 45 points46 points47 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I really feel your comment about giving in as he kept badgering you. This happened a lot recently with me, and the last LVM I was semi dating. He would poke and prod me, asking for sex and I would explain I’m not in the mood. I think this would only make him more horny and perceive this as a challenge. So he would sorta play wrestle with me as a way of getting close and intimate, at this point is when it would be easier to give in and let him fuck me.

Worst part is when he’d finish he’d fall asleep next to me, or go clean up and leave me in the bed still. I would never get to climax. At the time I just felt like I was being a girlfriend and having sex like that was regular for a lot of people but I didn’t like sharing those details with people.

[–]Platipus6FDS Disciple 24 points25 points26 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Men who think "I'm not in the mood" is an invitation to badger you into the mood 😩

He legit thought he was seducing you. Not your fault, sociopaths keep repeating behaviour that works.

[–]itsyourgirlfinnFDS Newbie 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Same except I'd say an even higher percentage. Maybe 70 or 80%. I have been raped by a stranger and a person I was dating and was trapped and forced to give a guy who I thought was my friend a blowjob and yet, in many ways, the stuff that almost messes with me more is this type of shit. The guys(often guys I was legit dating) who would badger me endlessly and wear me down and chip away at me til I'd finally be like, fine whatever, stick your dick in me. And it's like, yes I consented but why would a guy want to fuck a girl (often their actual gf) that they had to beg and plead and has told you no over and over. There's something deeply wrong with this dynamic and I wish it only happened one time but it happened over and over with various men in various scenarios. Of course, in hindsight, I wish I had been stronger or walked away but part of me thought that I guess it's only fair that I let him have sex with me since we are dating. Or super lame, I guess it's only fair to let him have sex with me bc he clearly reallllllly wants it🤮 I'd rationalize like, if I don't want to date him, I can leave but if I want to date him, it seems like he deserves to have sex with me. And the other part of me legitimately thought there was something wrong with me bc I didn't like sex but this dynamic has been my main experience with sex so how could I like it?!? The men all made sure to make me feel like there was something wrong with me but I know I'm fine bc I get myself off every night, no prob. I often wonder if men ever think back to scenarios like this where they wear women down into submission and think that there is something wrong with it but I know they don't 😞

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I’m so sorry.

This is what I always think of when I hear that countries like Sweden count each incident as a separate court claim. Like .... dear god, I’m as privileged as women can get and just in a couple of boyfriends and one bad ex husband, we’re easily approaching a thousand individual events that are abusive or non-consensual by these standards.

And if we start looking at women who are less privileged and who are with such violent men that CPS (in the US) has clocked them and is threatening to put their kids in foster care unless the mom leaves .... and her husband knows ... and she has no money and no way of earning any and no car and maybe no current visa and also maybe a language barrier or maybe a chronic brain injury from the concussions (should be rare but it’s not) or no way of even hiring a lawyer without her husband realizing it .... how many rapes is she going to live through before she manages to sneak herself and her kids out to a crowded shelter and beg her way through their waitlist of other desperate, battered women? Are we going to charge 30%-60% of men with thousands of crimes, realistically? Of course we aren’t. We don’t live in a world that values women enough to even begin to demand that kind of justice for us.

Like, I am in a liberal city and our women’s DV shelters all have 6-12 month waitlists. (We don’t have a homeless shelter for women - just men.) This is a NORMAL scenario in a booming, prosperous, large and growing US city.

We pay taxes for a world that doesn’t support us. Rape of women isn’t actually a crime in the US. Not really.

[–]itsyourgirlfinnFDS Newbie 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes! Same. I have lived a fairly privileged life and still have had mostly negative experiences with men that I've attempted to interact with on a deeper level. And I actually feel very lucky that my experiences with men haven't be worse. And mainly my "luck" is directly related to my privilege bc I always had the option to walk away which is, obvs, not a privilege all women have. The world does not value women.

I wish, as a world/society, we could start talking more about the middle level/more gray incidences of rape/unpleasant sexual encounters(I'm not trying to call rape a negative sexual encounter by the way... I slashed it bc I'm referring more to experiences we both mentioned where consent, technically, occured but is it true content if the man had to beg/plead/badger the woman into it?). Men are so scared of the words rape/rapists but these types of encounters should be discussed more openly. I kinda wish I wasn't like this bc it gets me into more trouble(with men) but I still hold out a small bit of hope that if we could get them to stand in our shoes a little bit, they would understand but I know that's prob far too idealistic of a wish.

Side note, I live in Iceland which is known for being one of the greatest places to be a woman and that absolutely is true in many many ways but the mentality of men here is not drastically different than in the US(where I'm from). Women here have still had to fight so hard to get equal rights/respect and there's still domestic violence and shitty fuck boys everywhere. I don't want to downplay either country for their positives or negatives bc it's all relative and no place is perfect. Iceland is also small so it's somewhat pointless to compare it to the US but I would say that this community actually reminds me a lot of the women in Iceland who came together, stopped putting up with bullshit and demanded better from the world.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh, I absolutely love Iceland! I’ve been six times and can’t wait to get back. It blew my mind the first time I was able to walk around alone after dark and ... passing dudes just nodded as distantly as they would if I had a guy with me. It was amazing.

On topic, I think the conversations about “consent” were originally intended to capture these gray areas. Of course, that freaked everyone out because the “gray areas” are so ubiquitous as to be a majority of some women’s encounters with men. I’m not sure what the solution is. I think we lack the social infrastructure necessary to penalize a demographic that extensively on women’s behalf. We need to bake in the idea of women as full, varied, dimensional human souls before we can demand full human rights recognition from our own male population.

[–]aquietswordFDS Newbie 40 points41 points42 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Women are also generally very good at picking up subtle hints in body language, we can tell when something feels off. Men admit time and time again that they are idiots that can't do this. They NEED to verbally ask for consent.

And men haven't been conditioned from birth to be the accommodating gender. To not make a scene. To keep the peace.

Ask whoever you want for consent, but don't try to make it sound like men are the ones afraid of boundaries being bulldozed during sex.

[–]super_thinker_FDS Newbie 27 points28 points29 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This. One time, a guy asked if we could make out, and I consented. Nothing heavy, just a few kisses. I noticed that he got aroused immediately but I didn't move forward because I sensed some hesitation in his kisses.

I pulled away, smiled, held his hand and said "should we finish the movie?" He sighed a huge breath of relief and agreed to finish the movie. The next day, he said he didn't feel any romantic chemistry between us, and I thanked him for the fun dates and let him go.

It was so obvious that he didn't want to keep kissing, and it felt really wrong to kiss someone whose heart wasn't in it. That's when I realized that all of the men who forced me or coerced me into having sex had no excuse.

The day was almost over. The dinner table filled with half empty glasses; Katherine's heart full of happiness. It had been six months since the beggining of her relationship with Joe. Never in her life had she felt better. Everything seemed alive, in color, excitement fluttering inside of her. Each time, a new, better experience. It was everything she's ever wanted.

As she made her way into the living room, where Joe was sitting on the couch, finishing his drink, she thought she needed to kiss him. But how could she know if he wanted it, too?

"Joe", she said, barely containing her happiness. "Must I kiss you?"

"Yes my darling. I give you my consent."

This reminds me...

All this consent bullshit doesn't stop men from raping. It assumes that the problem with rape is men simply don't know. The reality is men know very well and they take what they want. They problem is they don't care about women as human beings

It's a libfem solution coming from the premise that "men are nice and they're just like women and they care. They're just bumbling fools! Women need to lead them by the hand to not raping us. Tee hee!"

My ex always coerced sexual favors. Always. Would badger me, corner me, and guilt me into submission.

When we first kissed, I asked. When he wasn't in the mood, I stopped. He was so appreciative🙄. I've since realized it was a manipulation tactic. He understood consent and understood that he was abusing me. Men just prefer rape and assault. They only see themselves as human.

once a guy asked me if he could cum on my face, I said no, he said "well im going to anyway." and he did. it lives rent free in my memory and I hate it.

Yep. I’ve been seeing all this stuff recently about how the only way to effect change is to “educate” men about consent. They know damn well that rape is wrong. They don’t need any teaching for that. They’ll do it anyway because they know there are little to no consequences in a society that will always side with a man over a woman.

Was she going to peg him or sthg and needed consent? -_-

Lord help her. She's preaching to all the wrong choirs here. Will someone please tell her about the 97% study?

Look, you drop any man in an all-male prison and his understanding of consent will immediately elevate to a godly level. They ain’t dumb. Let’s stop that line of reasoning.

The whole point of consent is ensuring that someone who doesn’t actually have the physical power to ditch you is not, in fact, wishing at this moment that they had the physical power to ditch you.

Since men DO have the physical power to ditch you, their mere presence is reasonably interpreted as implied consent. If you’re Xena Warrior Princess and you’re sullying yourself with Woody Allen, then by all means, ask. Otherwise, men aren’t shy; if he’s there and sober and up for it, he will let you know if there’s a psychic element of his experience that you’re overlooking.

I couldn't agree less.

There is nothing wrong with seeking consent from eachother. Doing it both way is normalizing and should be encouraged, not ridiculed. It's not something only men should do, it's something all people should do.

Ok. Good for you, then.

except ALL people are not victims of a misogynistic upbringing. women are.

women are not the perpetrators of rape culture. men are. men arent taught that girls hitting them = affection. women are. men are not catcalled since they're kids. women are. men are not roofied at parties and raped. women are.

im so fucking done with men circle jerking on reddit over how they're oppressed by reversing situations and taking away the weight and context of them just to have something to complain about. MEN are not raised in a way that tells them to have no boundaries, men werent the ones being raped by their wives for centuries afer being forced into marriage, and most importantly; men cant be overpowered by women. men are physically stronger. the situations WILL never be the same

what this is is a woman misguided completely dimimishing what consent is because she either wants karma points or because shes clueless. women constantly find themselves in situations where things get out of hand with men because men dont care about nonverbal signs that they're not into it & later come to realize how fucked it was they couldnt say no because they were afraid or because they were raised to be nice or they didnt wanna br a buzzkill. but the men DIDNT CARE as long as they were getting their dick wet. THATS the discussion on consent and its something men will NEVER experience as a whole. individual experiences doesnt = oppression by women

now even in a relationship CONSENT IS IMPLIED NONVERBAL CUES exist and you have to be at the very least idiotic if you have to verbally ask for consent each time you want to have sex or be affectionate (which she claimed in the comments).

i feel terribly sorry for this woman and very glad i will never date a man who believes this kind of BS.

I am not being rude towards you btw, dont take offense to what i said. this is a general rant.

The interesting thing is is that when men are roofied and raped at parties it’s by other men. But they never want to talk about that. And you can’t even say that these days because then you’re not a true “libfem” unless you also tote about the awful females going around assaulting males on a regular daily basis. Doesn’t matter if one scenario is very rare and the other is commonplace and constantly invalidated by the problem: men.

Men prey on the fact that women have empathy and will stick up for them without realizing the other way around isn’t true. Which is the whole reason 99% of the time it’s a male victimizing a woman. Men don’t have empathy for women. They see them as entitled property that exists only for them and in their eyes. They’ll never empathize with you and will only derail important discussions with “but what about the men” to get their ass licked without giving a thought about women’s issues. They just want those free licks.

No offense taken. I teach all my children consent from a young age. Is sooo easy to do. And then I spend the rest of their childhood reinforcing both verbal and non verbal consent and boundaries.

The one statement I disagree with you on is that relationships imply consent for sex. Consent is revocable, any time for any reason, even if you are in a relationship and his dick is in you. The SECOND you say no or stop, and it is ignored, your consent has been violated, regardless of relationship status.

[–]FrequentPoetry 23 points24 points25 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean yes i get your last point but i was referring more to initiating sex and how if you're already dating its ok to assume you have consent to try and initiate sex with your SO and if they're not in the mood and push you away you werent "harassing" them

but i completely understand what you mean yeah? and im glad you are raising your children that way 💕 i bet youre an amazing mom

Haha, yes. Sorry, I was raised where relationship=sex slave basically. Sorry my triggers are showing. 🙄😂
