Feeling inspired by u/Vmchik's post on praising men for doing the bare minimum & asking if we can start posting on men who acrually do extraordinary things. Hell yes, sis!

I'm married to a true HVM. He does all the basics - takes care of me when I'm sick, does (more than) his fair share of household chores, gives affection & does sweet things for no reason, etc - but beyond that, my HVM has done some extraordinary things, and I wanted to share an example:

My parent's home flooded last year after a hurricane. 6 feet of water in the basement, 3 feet in the garage. Everything destroyed. No power or running water. No flood insurance.

We don't live in a region where hurricane damage is historically common (thanks climate change) and my parents are seniors, in poor health/limited mobility and don't have much money. They were devastated. Local companies came and quoted $15k to remove the water only, not including clean-up or repairs (not feasible.) This was shocking, we were all completely overwhelmed. I felt paralyzed and didn't know how to help or where to start.

In steps my husband, like an angel. He had never dealt with flooding before but is fairly handy. He stepped up, took charge and did all of this without me asking or expecting anything of him:

First, he put my parents in a hotel - checked reviews & availability, made the reservation for them. He then rented 2 high-powered water pumps and started pumping out the water. It took 2 full days of pumping 24/7. Dirty, dangerous work. After that, the real work began. He rented a massive dumpster, and together the 2 of us cleared out the jungle of debris over the course of 1 full week. Then came the cleaning - sweeping up wet glass, sewage-soaked bits of wood, and paper, all that fun stuff. Then, he rented large fans and bought a new dehumidifier to start drying things out. Then sanitizing the floor and few items we were able to salvage. And then on to tearing out the soaked drywall, calling companies to fix the septic & water heater, etc. All-in, it took us 10 days to get the house livable again, and months to get it back to normal. My husband then researched & helped my parents apply for flood insurance lol.

My husband is my hero. He's a living legend in my family, for this and so many other extraordinary acts. Don't settle for less, ladies. Pay attention not just to how he treats you, but to how he treats those you love. My HVM wanted to - and he did!

For other women partnered with HVMs, I'd love to hear about their extraordinary acts!

Edit: NEVER STOP VETTING. No matter how long you've been together or how HV he seems. We can acknowledge & celebrate HVM behavior without being blind to the fact that any man can potentially reveal himself to be LVM. Stay ruthless, ladies!
