I don't know the WALL is about just looks. When men talk about the WALL they really mean your 'worth'. (which much of is tied to looks) But worth includes your contributions to society. And when men say you've hit the wall, they are implying you have nothing to give. And though the argument shouldn't be legitimised, women need to tackle the idea head on.

That's why it's important to showcase women being successful and beautiful in all stages of life to dismantle this notion in both genders heads. So many women hit an age or glass ceiling and stop fighting for better positions. They give birth and think, my career is over now. Or reach menopause and feel unnatractive. It's BS.

Sigourney is still acting and getting bank and looking great. One of the few female celebs that gets to her 70s and is still present. We should be uplifting and showcasing all women who continue to achieve theirs goals as they age. That includes the businesswomen, scientists, and marathoners who don't see age as a hindrance.

Because the 'wall' and self-doubt lives in all our heads. And until we realise it's our decision whether there is a wall or not, it's going to pervade our lives. Best way to remove it is to support, aknowlege, and promote the high-vis women who don't believe in it. Because positive influences will have an effect.

Also, it's STILL bullshit, because celebrities have access to insane maintenance options that many haven't, and have likely been using aggressive anti-ageing stuff since they were in their 20's.

"I didn't have actual surgery" doesn't change whether or not Ms. Weaver's look is realistic (ok but she DID have a staff of dietitians, trainers, chefs, doctors, aestheticians, etc. She's likely been on the most expensive/effective anti-aging topicals, she's likely fucked with microneedling, laser resurfacing, tret, botox, filler, IPL, etc.)

There's a TON of money you can pour into keeping a face and body hot that are not explicitly surgery.

Also I think 100% she's lying. she's got a GREAT surgeon and she's smart enough to have opted for "I want to look like a hot cougar, i don't want to pretend i'm 29 forever" as a look, which is a great way to rebuff claims you had work done ("do you think i'd still have all these crow's feet if I had work done?" YES because you made sure to keep the "charming" marks of age while HAVING LITERALLY NO NECK OR DECOLLETAGE SAG/TEXTURE, YEAH RIGHT SIGGY. 71 with plenty of smile lines but no 11's when you're an actor is a pretty obvious tell - has she only played happy people LOL?)

It also helps that at her youngest/hottest, she had thin lips. Basically she managed to be young and "hot" while already having some features that other women fear as they age. That's a great lesson for women - lean INTO things where you can. Imaginge Ms. Weaver with lip fillers - super obvious!

I don't see any work done on her face. She might have had a small neck lift, but that's it. What I do see is a layer of foundation that helps to conceal small lines in her cheeks and forehead. If you google Sigourney Weaver at age 71, you'll see other shots of her at this event in this green dress with different light, and you can clearly see her forehead lines and other facial lines that don't appear in the photos in this post. She hasn't had cosmetic surgery on her face.

I think she won the genetic lottery, so to speak, and that's why she looks great. She's obviously stayed out of the sun which will be a big factor in aging. Being a Hollywood star means you have more cash to spend on skin treatments. It comes with the territory.

That being said, I think anybody can look their best at 71 if they take care of themselves consistently when younger. You can learn to cook healthy, exercise at home and even make your own skin treatments yourself if you don't have a Hollywood salary. My mother took care of herself all her life on a budget and only started getting sag lines and forehead lines when in her 80's. She died at 97 with no lines around her eyes. I'm almost 60 and I have absolutely no lines or sags on my face, not even around my eyes. I don't have chest/boob sag, either. It really is a way of thinking and living that keeps you looking and feeling good as a senior citizen. It's not about having a lot of money.

Honestly I look a lot younger than some of my classmates, the major determinants being

they drank a lot of booze and i drink 4 bottles of wine a YEAR
they did a lot of sunning/laying out when young
I have never eaten a diet deficient in protein nor fat.

Just sunning, drinking in excess, and smoking accumulate like WHOAH.

I frankly do think it's about having a lot of money, when high quality nutrition, stress management, laser resurfacing treatments, tret, botox, top-tier hair and makeup, a lifetime out of the sun, a lifetime of high-end skincare, etc. are all requisites to maintaining one's looks. 71 year olds don't look like siggy by drinking plenty of water LOL.

I'd much prefer society just acknowledge that men are super fucking stupid if they look at literally professionally attractive people and us that to form expectations that the women in their dating pool be that good looking for free for them. Men are cruel AND stupid if they anchor to professional attractive people when judging the looks of anyone without that job.

that whole energy is just men trying to do an end-run around pushback to the reality that they want a woman that wouldn't give them the type of day...by making it the women's faults that we arent' attractive enough, they soothe their ego and shield it from the reality that they don't see hot women because hot women are denying them access.

Men whine about a wall but could NEVER show Sigourney the type of good time on a date to which she is accustomed. They like them young because young gals don't yet realize that they're getting shafted on the deal.

But you're assuming that it's because she's wealthy.

I look at least 12+ years younger than I am. I've managed to stay out of the sun or use drugstore sunscreen. I've taken are of my skin since I was in 19 years old. I've used high end, and I even made my own skin care products with tea tree oil in my bathroom, when I couldn't purchase what I needed at an affordable price. A $30 bottle of ROC retinol wrinkle gel/creme lasts me about 9 months, used every day.

There's no botox on her face and there's no filler. If she did that (think Nicole Kidman), then she'd have no lines or sags. She has naturally high cheekbones, and when you maintain your weight and get older, those bones will become more prominent because you don't have the natural collagen and fat to fill out your face as much.

Smoking is absolutely ruinous to your skin.

Catherine Deneuve once said that when you age, you have to choose between your face or your fanny, meaning that if you choose to remain skinny, your face will show it. If you keep some weight on your body, then you'll have some body fat that will fill out your face and smooth things over. I found a happy medium in between :)

I don't give a rat's ass what some strange man thinks about me. I take care of myself for me and for my husband. I hit the "wall" almost 30 years ago LOL and it felt great back then to finally turn 30 and to feel like an adult. All the posts about men wanting young, 20-something women that they can manipulate are spot on. Once she knows a man's game, she can't be deceived ever again. Men know this and that's why they hate women like me. I've called out too many of them on their sexist behavior.

It's really good to be older and to have my intelligence, my career, talents, skills and looks still intact. I can't be taken advantage of at this point.

Exactly. And I always think - why the heck would I want a man that’s only interested in a 20 year old anyway, whether it was theoretically for her looks or for being more easily manipulated?! Just as i wouldn’t want a man to only want me for my looks or any woman for her looks - those are the types that never fall in love and even his most “perfect” ideal woman becomes boring to him, so he looks for a new shiny toy. Thats no way to live your life. And if he wants a perpetual 20 year old, he’s probably super immature and also will “upgrade” her when he gets a chance. I don’t understand why these men think this will hurt us to hear. It really only shows that they tell on themselves. I want to look after myself to feel good and feel I look good. If a man comes along and likes all of me at every age, great! If not, oh well!

I mean, i think we should all be ruthlessly aggressive about this discussion. discomfort about same is a big part of why men run roughshod over us. so nah.

And i don't like being squishy with definitions. your "value", brutally speaking, like the value of anything else, is an externally defined measure of your worth as determined by the world outside yourself.

you can place personal value on yourself. great! but self-esteem aside, your ability to have anything pleasant in this life is heavily dependent on the world at large. and it's foolish to pretend that looks (and looks specifically tied to youth) don't get you just as far as talent, sometimes further, even when they really REALLY should not count at all.

And the world at large doesn't give a fuck about your feelings, and is explicit that a significant quantum of female value is dependent on being attractive. we can advocate to change that, we can push on that paradigm, we can attempt to defy that paradigm by valuing old and "ugly" women ourselves, but I refuse to ignore that reality, least of all in a women-exclusive space where we are WARNING WOMEN about the way the world works.

I'd rather warn women so they have their eyes open about this cruel reality, than fuckin' whitepill them here of all places.
