He went off on me because I told him I liked when he visited me at work... It literally takes 5 mins a month to make me smile by dropping in and he legit acted like I was being malicious somehow. To this day it still confuses me

Also another ex (when I was really young) kept pestering me to get a job and when I finally got a job as a store clerk he became enraged saying it should be a better job. He didn't even congratulate me... I was a teenager FFS and he was like 30.

My ex husband would scream at me for what seemed like hours every month because I got a period. Yeah. It was a financially abusive marriage, so at the time I had to beg him for my own money to buy menstrual supplies. His solution? Just "wad up toilet paper and stick it up there". I'm sure that will fly at work. The whole neighbourhood pretty much knew when I was bleeding by the rants and raging about me "literally haemoragging money" and how disgusting I was. So fucking glad I levelled up after that loser. My hvm husband won't hesitate to run to the store for me if I ran out of supplies. He also won't yell at me for accidents, unlike the loser ex.

I have one hell of a list from narcs I dated.

because I told him plastic Christmas trees could be better for the environment. He was discussing how to get a Christmas tree back home for his kids since grocery stores didn’t deliver and I suggested buying a plastic one and that it had other advantages (he nearly broke up with me over this one-told me what I was implying was that what he was doing was bad for the planet)
because I asked him to put on the vent when cooking fish
because I asked him to be careful with my big knee injury in bed and he kept banging into it
because I asked him to put the beach umbrella deeper in the sand

So so many.. narcs feel attacked by you breathing.

when men do this out of nowhere (explode over tiny issues or literally nothing), keep your eyes peeled. it’s a huge sign of infidelity. they do it to relieve themselves of the guilt. “this is why i had to cheat. i can’t believe she insists on putting the butter in the refrigerator instead of the butter plate. she just doesn’t listen to me or care about what i say.”

My ex literally abandoned me in the subway because the train came and went. He was waiting in line to get a token like a dumbass when I gave him a token to avoid said line. When the train left without us he demanded the apartment keys to go home. I then went downtown alone. He messaged me apologizing for his temper tantrum then asked what he should make for dinner 😑He didn’t bother meeting me at the subway and as we live in a sketch area I was harassed by a man on the way home. He was waiting at the doorway when I got home and I was so furious I couldn’t get the words out

One yelled at me for poking holes in his political arguments. He couldn't handle any disagreement about anything, period. Naturally he was a libertarian. He would also yell at me for being annoyed that he would scream at his video games. Sometimes he'd throw things at me or the TV. He was in his late 20s at the time lol.

Another one would default to yelling over literally any inconvenience. There was always someone to blame. One of the stupidest blow ups he had was when he lost his own keys and tried to blame me for it because I guess it was my job to be responsible for everything in the house??? He also tried to blame me for him failing a class because I didn't wake him up on time to go take his final. I fell asleep as soon as I got home because I worked overnights in freezing temperatures and was chronically sleep deprived.

My ex had a tantrum at a party because I wanted to leave. It was 3:30am and he had been PASSED OUT in a corner for a couple hours. I woke him and he insisted that we stay. Even though I was exhausted and (always) expected to drive home an hour. He literally screamed in the middle of these poor people's apartment. Opened up his mouth and bellowed like an angry toddler. One of the most embarrassing moments of my life. On the drive home he yelled at me about how awful I was the whole way.

My narc ex once flipped out on me when we went to Wendy's and I forgot to tell them no onions or sauces on my burger. I realized my mistake when I unwrapped it and all I said was "Oh damn, I forgot to tell them to make it plain". I was fine with scraping the offending toppings off and eating it anyway but I didn't even get that far before the literal screaming tirade started. I have never before or since seen any human being go that ballistic over something that did not affect them whatsoever. He screamed at me for a solid hour over how ordering my burger wrong was indicative of what an inconsistent, immature, irresponsible person I was. He only stopped screaming when he finally lost his voice.

Then there was another time (same guy) when he screamed himself hoarse once again, threw his phone at me, and started swerving all over the highway after I caught him flirting with an ex.

Then another time when he got the cops called on us at a Jimmy John's. The night before, I had caught him in a bunch of facebook groups for people looking to have affairs and trade homemade porn. I wasn't over it by the next morning, so he had been screaming at me in the car the whole way there about how if I wasn't so insecure, none of that would bother me and how I needed to "grow up". The other restaurant patrons saw him yelling and flailing his gorilla arms in the parking lot and called 911.

I have endless stories about this guy flying off the handle over either absolutely nothing or being caught trying to cheat. That relationship was a perfect example of how women are held hostage by pure fear of what their partner might do to them if they try to leave.

Many years ago one threw a tantrum and locked me out of the bedroom all night because I wouldn't do Ecstasy with him. Another gave me the silent treatment because when he picked me up from work to drive 2 hours to a concert I still wanted dinner in between (as I had said when we made the plans). We get dinner, he starts the silent treatment, we make it to the concert in plenty of time, and he's still mad afterward and the next day because I wanted to eat instead of starve.

Don’t even get me started on narcs/LVM treating you badly in VEHICLES knowing you can’t escape. The most cowardly of all, intimidating women in a confined space, no witnesses, and speeding like they’re a fast and furious racer ...

one ex was driving with me to get alcohol for his parents when we were visiting their lake house, but there was like no signal so we were struggling to find a store. Finally the GPS picked one up and he was like ‘okay I see it, I’m just gonna stop for gas right here first’. But then after we get gas he drives right past the alcohol store! We ended up arguing because he claims I shouldn’t have turned the GPS off, but they were literally RIGHT next door and he said he saw it. He started speeding like 90 on a 55 road yelling at me and drifted making a U-turn (later his tire popped on the way home, yet he wouldn’t admit it was because of his reckless driving). When we parked I said thanks for trying to KILL US and he said he didn’t care. Burn in hell asshole.

An ex even before that one was also speeding in the car yelling at me once and I just lost it and started screaming at him. He was emotionally abusive and would yell at me over literally anything, for example accidentally stepping on his shoes, so I really don’t recall what the argument was over. I will admit I was going through reactive abuse because I wanted him to know how I felt. But I was screaming at him to let me out of the car and he said he wouldn’t let me out and finally I got quiet and he mocked me asking if I was ‘finally done throwing a tantrum’. The hilarious part? He was driving my own car that my family owned but was letting him borrow until he could get a loan to afford it. Absolute TRASH.

Thanks for posting this - I’ve been meaning to write a post on narcissism and psychopathy lately as it’s a growing epidemic.

The level of control and psychotic paranoia in these people is terrifying. I think it’s important to get education out so women can identify the signs of abuse earlier and leave.
