I'm guilty.

I went to my dealership to get an oil change and overall checkup. After awhile a male employee came out to give me the summary of the findings and said I'll need tires soon, and they were just finishing up. I asked him some questions about that, he left, and I waited for my car to be ready for pickup.

Then a woman came out to finish the paperwork with me. She started to give me the same rundown about my tires. I began to think..."Okay stop, you're not a mechanic. You're just reading the paper." I interrupted her and said, "Oh a guy came out and told me all about that. He said I have until like October" and she said "yeah that's what I was gonna say" and then went on to talk to me about why he was right and what to expect from tires etc.

It was then that I realized I had judged her knowledge and her ability to speak intelligently about cars...basically the ability to do her very job... based solely on the fact that she was female.

Just because we are women does not mean we haven't been subjected to the same cultural indoctrination that men have.

I am guilty. But I am aware.

That awareness must reprogram the code in my subconscious every time it tries to subjugate one of my sisters. Old habits die hard.
