I wasn't circumsized. As a teen I felt kind of awkward about it as I believe most other guys in class were circumsized (I didn't go checking or anything). I started feeling less ashamed of it one day when I was listening to Howard Stern talk about how much he wished he wasn't circumsized and how the foreskin is so much more sensitive. More articles and things I've seen throughout the years seem to support not circumsizing your child. And logically why would we be born with foreskins if it did not serve some sort of natural purpose or advantage such as protection.

I can't find the poll now, but it showed that a higher percentage of mothers favored circumcision than fathers. I don't know how people who've never owned a dick make up their mind that it needs to be cut.

I always go back to this analogy on this topic: Would it be OK to tattoo a baby? No, they have to wait until they're an adult to permanently modify their body. Whatever "religious freedom" one is thought to have is so much less important than mutilating a helpless baby's genitals.

You know what the best part about having a foreskin is? When I was a baby I didn't have part of my fucking genitals cut off. As far as I'm concerned parents have no more right to hack off part of their kids penis than they have a right to hack off one of his toes.

I would never circumcise my child, but honestly, it is different. Structurally, female genital mutilation would be the equivalent of severing (a minimum of) the entire glans of the penis (head of the penis) along with the foreskin. Again, let's not pretend circumcision is a bowl of cherries, but female genital mutilation is far more traumatic and damaging to sexual function.

Male circumcision is appropriate in some cases where recurring infections would happen if not for it. There is, however, no good reasoning behind female circumcision.

Also, male circumcision doesn't completely deprive you of sexual pleasure.

It seems that there is a lot of anger on this subreddit about Male Genital Mutilation.

I have an idea. Why don't you, instead of posting links and arguing about it, actually make an effort to stop the practice? Form an advocacy group, talk to your friends, doctors etc., write a letter to your congressman.

There are lots of ways to do things that actually matter in stopping this practice but I do not believe that posting on an internet forum is one.

Everyone saying female genital mutilation isn't the same; just because it is not quite as bad does not mean it isn't horrible in the same way! I could beat a baby to death with a shoe or I could beat a baby to death with a frying pan, they would be different degrees of pain but wouldn't they both still be horrible?

Preface: I would never circumcise a child.

That being said, I was circumcised as an infant, and my penis is FAR from "mutilated". I can piss and fuck comfortably. Orgasms are like pissing rainbows made of stardust, so if it's actually better when you're uncut then holy shit what the fuck could that possibly feel like? My penis is just fine the way it is, and I don't think my parents had any sort of malicious intention when they chose to have the procedure done to me.

Also, if you think about it, the option to get circumcised later in life is not really even worth mentioning. The percentage of men who are going to choose to get circumcised later in life (with all the associated pain and risk) is almost 0. That being said, imagine for a second that the default penis was the circumcised penis, and a painful/risky procedure was required to change the penis to the uncut state. Nobody would do it. Why? Because a circumcised penis is just fine.

So while I think it's immoral to make that decision for a child, let's not pretend we're all walking around with horrifying, mutilated bodies. My circumcised penis is pretty well loved by both myself and my girlfriend.

As a doctor I favor having the choice of circumcision available. If you decide that you don't want to circumcise your child that is perfectly fine. I, however, will chose to circumcise my child and would expect people to understand and respect my decision just like I respect anyones decision to not circumcise their child.

The reason for this is that unlike with vaccination, which puts other people at risk of death as we have seen in california with cases of whooping cough, lack of circumcision would only affect the child. Let me elaborate, if it just so happens that your child ends up experiencing phimosis as an adult due to the lack of circumcision then it only affects him (and he would have to make the decision to undergo circumcision). If he ends up developing Balanitis because of lack of hygiene it would only affect him. It's not a matter of religious "mutilation" even though the procedure does have religious roots.

Regarding female genital mutilation (there is no such thing as "female circumcision"): While it may be practiced in some cultures there are few medical reasons for it to be performed (female phimosis for example). The fact that it is not performed as a procedure in the US when the child is born is because it lacks benefit (and may in fact lead to more problems) to the child.

APPLES & ORANGES: They outlawed female circumcision! So why can we do it to boys? What has been termed "female circumcision," isn't a circumcision. It is a misnomer. It is the lopping off of the female clitoris. (Often times there will be a battle of semantics because there are other procedures dubbed with the term "female circumcision." Such as the removal of the labia, clitoral hood or other such removals. These are much less common.) Done in many areas as a rite of passage, and usually meant to prevent women from seeking sexual pleasure. The terminology "female circumcision" is a nickname, not the definition. The correct term is "clitoridectomy." To compare female circumcision to male isn't just a massive leap or apples & oranges. It is a deliberate ignorant statement. It is meant to compare the medical procedure of a male circumcision with the brutal & oppressive practice of removing a woman's clitoris. They aren't similar, and portraying them as similar is dishonest.

As much as I disagree with male circumcision, it is not the same degree of mutilation that a female circumcision involves. Completely removing your ability to have an orgasm is quite different from removing a sheath of skin from the penis.

Male circumcision does not deprive of sexual pleasure while the point of female circumcision is to reduce sexual pleasure. BIG difference.

This is such a pointless argument anyway. It should be up to the parents, and everyone else mind their own fucking business. All this does is make men look like whiny pussies declaring themselves as victims because they were circumcised.

It's my cock, and my parents made a decision about it because I was too young to. If you don't want to do it to your kids, fine. But don't call me 'mutilated' because my parents made a decision that was right for me.

Your sister is right, its not at all the same. Circumcision is not mutilation and my sons will be circumcised even if you throw me in jail. Some things are worth standing up for. I'm not advocating that your children be circumcised!
