I really would like to see stats on what kind of degrees women go for in college. You always hear about more of them going to college then men, but more men are in the workforce, earning more. Im willing to bet the start of that gap starts in what degrees men/women are getting

There really is a very, very simple thing you can do to kill this argument in a heart beat without any numbers. I do this all the time (granted, i'm in a college town so it's a fuck ton easier here).

but when you hear this shit, ask, "who makes more? an engineer or a teacher?" You'll get something to the affect of an engineer and some bullshit or who knows what kind following it. Then just ask them to do one simple thing if they want to engage in the conversation: "go to [university] and take a peek in and engineering class and take a peek in a education/psychology etc class. Come back and tell me what you see and then we will talk"

This is one of the simplest ways I have found to possibly get it through their heads that women make different choices than men. You put a real life, actual scenario, with no numbers, data or anything to be misconstrued right in front of their face and it's undeniable.

I have never had a single feminist argue after that. The wack of logic to the dome all but shuts them up.

The truth of the matter is that the wage gap is real but the argument is how that gap is manifested. It does come down to choice but incredibly the freedom of that choice is inherently given to women whereas men are often ridiculed or bullied into taking home the bacon. If most men told their wives "honey, after the birth of (xx) I'd like to stay home for the first few years of her life." chances are it wouldn't be a choice.

In the company I work at - because of affirmative action it's actually women who make more than men....and are subsequently promoted.

Feminism is absolutely recognizing the facts. Only it's still a problem that needs to be fixed in their eyes. They don't think that the reason is personal choice but that the patriarchy is forcing women to make these choices.

This is reflected by their "solutions" to attract more women into high paying fields by lowering the requirements for women and to force employers to pay more to women in less paying fields.

And no statistic in the world will get feminists to stop denying women the agency they already have in our current world.

I would like to propose that one of you really smart persons out there come up with a graph that shows more of these types of "gender gaps". A few just of the top of my head: "the tax gap" showing how much more men pay in taxes, the "benefits gap" showing how much less they receive in benefits from those taxes (social security, welfare, etc), the "gift giving gap" - how men spend billions (literally) more than women on Valentine's Day, engagements, dating, anniversaries, Mother's Day, Christmas (and how there is no social penalty of being labeled cheap or unromantic for women).

Oh yeah, then there's the "death gap" which is always ignored. Men dying at a much earlier age and yet there is never a discussion to try to equalize this in the medical/political worlds.

It is statistically true that women in general pick lower paying jobs than men. But they are also discouraged to go into engineering or medical related careers. And generally Computer Science and Medicine and other scientific oriented jobs are higher paying than the other career paths. I think that in a certain sense there is a wage gap: women don't work the longer hours in the right professions to earn the same that men do. Is this a result of women making free decisions about what hours they want to work and what jobs they want to take? Is it a result of residual sexism in the culture that influences their career decisions? My guess is that it is a little bit of both. However, women are graduating college at much higher rates than men anyways so I don't see what the big deal is. If anything, these statistics point out to me a generational wage-gap more than anything when you look at the fact that young women make more than men. Why doesn't that help even out the overall stats? Because the younger generation is only making a fraction of what the older generation is able to make.

The really sad part of all this is that it is just another "crying wolf" that takes away from the very real wage gap globally. Women do an insane amount of hard work and are underpaid in other countries to a scandalous degree. What's more, the role of women in the modern era has been one of unpaid labor supported by their husband. The vital debate over those facts is being left behind because of the sjw tendency to overshoot reasonable goals and generate controversy (probably also influenced by the media's love of catchy headlines and easy sales).

Maybe the lowest paid college majors are the lowest paid because they're female dominated and there is a legitimate gender wage gap.

That's obviously not the case, but that's a weak argument in my opinion that takes away from the graphic's overall effectiveness.

Hourly salary are the same for the same work. My wife do a men job and get the same paid. Other momen quit because working over 10 hours/days with a physically job strain them and too much absenteeism from them. If you choose a easy freely part time job with no responsibility, don't complain it's doesn't pay.

This is really lazy tbh, you guys seem like you're turning into 3rd wave feminists.

There is a 2-6% gap that can't really be explained, I'm not saying that is sexism but a gap DOES exist.

The main theory right now is that this is temporal flexibility. For example, a man and woman could both finish law school and get a job with the same title and both working the same hour and this wold show up as a "pay gap" but temporal flexibility is very hard to account for.

The woman could have wanted more flexible hours, and she got them but at the expense of pay.

A lot of feminists have moved on from the 77 cent for the same work number and now push the 2-6% gap.

That wasn't the intention, it was to disprove the gender pay gap. It exists, but only because women choose lower paying jobs. If a woman wants to help stop this they should go to STEM, not to gender studies and then complain there aren't enough women in STEM.

And how is domestic violence related to the pay gap in any way at all? Nice try changing the subject in face of uncomfortable facts. Besides, in the US the split between male and female domestic abuse victims is almost 50/50 so it's not solely a "women's issue" (not even when men are only 19% btw).
