For instance, MGTOW/declining marriage rates contributed to Kentucky reforming child custody laws to be more fair in how they treat fathers. This has lowered divorce rates.

I wouldn't really call it a movement, but there were some innovative content creators who flew that flag, peaking really between 2015 and 2020. It got crushed because the online platforms banned MGTOW as a term. E.g., Reddit banned the r/ MGTOW. Now there are creators who use other branding, such as Better Bachelor, and the Free Agent Lifestyle.

The core concept is developing a life that doesn't center women.

It got banned on the internet but it was training wheels anyway. Understanding philosophy and psychology is all you need. Don’t try to impress anyone. Never value anyone more than yourself. Don’t try to live up to other people’s expectations and don’t expect them to live up to yours in some transactional manner. Stay away from all these bad deals based on poor self esteem. Be yourself. Your life will become emptied of all the fakes, braggarts, parasites, and yes men and will seem very lonely. Get used to it, because once you do it is actually a huge improvement that way and your relationships will be authentic and reciprocal.

I've known guys who did it before the term was ever a thing and they were very happy with life. They didn't hate women and had big social circles with lots of friends. But at some point they decided that they did not want the compromise and sacrifice that a long-term relationship would require.

I googled it a couple months ago out of curiosity and it's shocking how it's been erased from the internet, compared to 10 years ago. All the forums seem to be gone, and of course the subreddit was nuked from orbit several years ago "somebody broke a RULE in there!"

Of course yadda yadda, misandrist subreddits are at the top of "all" often and nobody cares. "Rule breaking? It was just a few bad apples. You can't blame a whole subreddit for that!"

All I can find now is the wikipedia page, and a bunch of articles from Southern Poverty Law Center et al, about how horrible it was.

Ironically, MGTOW is actually thriving without the name. Many Gen Z males have given up on dating and single occupant households continue to rise

I've been saying "Men should boycott women" for a while and didn't realize it was already a thing. I even mentioned it in here and people told me it was impractical. I clarified I meant "just for a few years" so women would learn to appreciate men. I also noticed dynamics such as "virtue signaling" before they became buzzwords.

It's going to be difficult because men are controlled more by their hormones than women. That's why they can't stay away despite bad behavior of women. "Horniness" is also how women manipulate and control men en masse.

Scarcity raises value. 15 years ago I was on a plane to China and a woman told me her husband would have Green Bean soup (blech? Lol) ready for her, and how men treasure women there because there are fewer women due to the 1-child rule and selective abortion. Then, in Russia, the men are pampered and treasured over there because there are fewer men - Russia has the lowest life expectancy for men and I imagine now there's even fewer. I was there in March wearing plain clothes and noticed tall, leggy women trudging thru the snow in 6" spike heels, dressed to the 9's to impress the men. The women gave me dirty looks since looked like janitorial staff and was dating one of their men.

I do not think it is necessary to give your personal preferences a name. Right now you feel the way you do and you are doing the things that are best for you at the moment. Later you can change them, or you can stay the same, but you do not have to give yourself a label.

No shortage of quality material on the internet or YouTube. I suggest you give mgtow a shot and if in doubt then try dating women. The information gleaned from YouTube will show you what traps to avoid and When finished give it a shot again. You will be happier doing your own thing.

I don’t like to make any wide sweeping statements about a philosophy I hold to - because that in itself can become a barrier to change later. MGTOW is an umbrella term within the greater “manosphere”.

Among the precepts are recognition of most women’s natures and how it guides their actions, a focus on limiting relationships to good people in a balanced way, self-sufficiency in monetary and emotional terms, learning and implementing Stoic principles, and finding internal motivation to better oneself, for oneself, and nobody else. Finding a way to cultivate and maintain internal peace, alone, by yourself, is necessary.

There are a wide variety of paths in MGTOW, there is no rule book, except the obvious. No marriage, no cohabitation, no children, and answer to no one but yourself.

This is going to be an unpopular take, but when it was viewed as a movement, it would start off positive and slowly become toxic. The affiliated subreddit had some great resources, but eventually the discussions were dominated by a vocal minority that would just argue amongst themselves. Some were so anti-women that you'd be called a cuck for not disowning your sister.

I personally have always viewed MGTOW more as my sexual orientation than some movement I am part of. While I think it can technically be classified as a movement, with demographics as they are, I cannot see anything material changing for 2+ generations, and therefore in my lifetime, all I can do is be aware and open.

I'd start by seeing if you can find old reddit pages from online archives of the banned subreddit. The sidebar had some decent links.

Its not that deep. It boils down to "huh, wouldn't my energy be better spent my career, or vocational hobby, or learning something new" and then cultivating your bubble away from things which are first and foremost, annoying and not worth your time.

I think you've already started on the path once you know it exists in name and form.

It sits in that back if your mind - could "this" be better? This being your life, existence, relationships, how you view the world, how to live in it.

I've been coloured by the rampant anti-male bias of the universities circa 2013 and beyond.

All of the events that shaped the MRM really made me jaded about the future.

But nothing catastrophic happened to me in my personal life, many don't, but I also never put myself out there with dating.

I took time until really the idea was given to me, because I certainly didn't do alot of thinking - but what do women think about their independence?

If ideas from feminism and 4B is good, what about the version for men? The immediate hostility to MGTOW means we are into something.

If being okay with singledom is okay for women, how can it benefit men?

"When you are accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression".

Personally I think once you/we find a male space that can celebrate being ourselves, and just allow us to exist and be left alone, and to enjoy our hobbies, then we've made it.

I never found it in Canada, or any western culture.

And of course this weird culture war that attacks beauty and femininity because of this notion that if men enjoy it then it's evil.

YES! I've been doing it for years. No more psycho drama from man hating woman. I do what I want when I want and how I want without concern from hearing about it from anyone especially females. I've met some overseas females and gone to visit them multiple times. What a refreshing eye opening experience. They appreciate men. I've heard it all, they're in it for the money. So are USA women and along with that you're entitled to an endless bucket of shit in the face. At least with overseas women you get respect, mental and physical intimacy. It's amazing how long i punished myself being the recipient of man hating bullshit with no upside. I don't mind providing things for my friends abroad and spending money while developing relationships. As a man, a foreign man we are not treated as a pariah. We are treated with respect and as a human being. Money is a small price to pay versus being emotionally and financially bankrupt with permanent stigma of being a man with that always available bucket of shit in the face. MGTOW=Freedom. I'm on it for about 9 years now lol. There's nothing to research about. Just do it, if it doesn't work, or it doesn't feel right for you then stop doing it. There is no department of mgtow who regulates who is and who is not mgtow, or has strict guidelines for it. Everyone just wings it as they go. If you feel like women or dating is too much than go mgtow. If 3 weeks down the line you feel the loneliness is impossible to bear then stop doing it and date someone. You can date someone and still think the whole relationship ritual is insane. Both can be true at the same time.

Although many people online see going mgtow be purely a political statement, it's really a lifestyle choice. A lifestyle choice that you can freely change if it doesn't suit you.

I have given up on dating, abs so in a sense, I have embraced MGTOW, but maybe not for common reasons. I have a five year daughter whose mother died last year, and i simply can't risk her future for the not insignificant possibility that the next potential girlfriend could fuck up my life. There is value in working on yourself, taking care of your responsibilities, and improving your life for yourself and your kids without the motivation of trying to find a partner. If I ever decide to date again, it will be on my terms with my boundaries...my terms abs boundaries mean I will likely not date again and that's fine.
