Last year, I personally had to "escort back" to french girls who were alone at 4:00 AM drunk. In a bad part of a tourist city. Sometimes on vacation, go for a run, especially if I'm near a beach ( I can't enjoy it most of the year while working ) I had to stop and help them, to the nearest 7 eleven...to get them water, some isotonic solution, wipes ( one of them had vomit on her hair, clothes ) ask for an Uber.... and all of these, sadly I do it recording everything, just in case...🤷‍♂️ Just because as a human being ( and a man ) I don't want nothing bad to happen to other people. Especially when I'm witnessing a possible, bad outcome scenario with my own eyes. Some people just simply don't have any common sense, I wouldn't do it, even being a man.

[–]critical_Bat 35 points36 points37 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It does counter their hyper vigilance but they have also been fed the ideology that bad things (especially if they can be made into a hashtag) just shouldnt happen. That is a key component in their anti victim shaming mentality.

All this shows is women have shite threat detection...

[–]OffTheRedSand 26 points27 points28 points 4 months ago (3 children) | Copy Link

yea which explains why women are more likely to be attacked and robbed at night.. oh wait

[–]salphon 26 points27 points28 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women are attacked less because even criminals have some kind of "code of honor", like not hitting women. It's very simple.

[+]Fine-Glass-9875 -6 points-5 points-4 points 4 months ago (2 children) | Copy Link

u seem more upset by women having an idea of asymmetric unsafeness then the men that actually attack you guys. we should be in this together.

By criminals.

Who are men attacked by.... Are you actually serious? Ive been attacked and followed several times during my life on the streets at night...

Im male btw.. Just incase you needed to know.

i know men are attacked, that’s not up for debate im saying it’s a gendered thing, if half the population (men) is doing most of the crime it’s cause for concern don’t you think? and maybe even socially enforced.

[–]MetaCommando 7 points8 points9 points 4 months ago* (13 children) | Copy Link

if half the population (men) is doing most of the crime it’s cause for concern don’t you think? and maybe even socially enforced.

oh boy let's check which groups commit a disproportionate amount of violent crime then see if your opinions change

[+]Fine-Glass-9875 -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 months ago (12 children) | Copy Link

men are the group committing a disproportionate amount of violent crimes. this happens everywhere, places with arabs, blacks, whites, asians, jews. you are implying id change my opinion if it was claimed that black people commit more crime (a statistical fact) which i wouldn’t, bc i believe economic factors apply here, just not for women.

for example, women are less financially inclined then men in the world, but they are not doing crime at the same rates as a man, who is white, and maybe more likely to be born into a financially stable family then a black man. men are the culprits of group based violent behavior bc of how we raise men and the values we instill in them. The feminization of feelings (not including anger) is what every male child is taught to avoid. and that goes hand in hand with the disproportionate amount of violence men commit against other men. which is what i advocate against. male on male violence is a huge problem and it’s been around since before feminism was even a word. so you can’t blame it on that.

Oh of course you post in men's lib.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Gold_10 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (10 children) | Copy Link

This doesn't change ignoring men's issues Is what is being done. The majority of men do not commit violent crime. It's a small percentage of men that do this due to socio economic factors much like ethnicity. Men are forced into this role and preyed on by other criminals. Women are not looked for in this role. Whether or not being taught to hold emotions in has anything to do with it. There is obviously other factors that can be tackled. Including, helping the victims, men and women. Instead of jumping to criticising men and using their criminality as an excuse to ignore the issues they face. The man who got assaulted didnt assault himself. And black Carribbeans in the UK deserve protection in the UK even with higher criminality rates. Economic factors affect them like they affect men. Criminality may be higher with black carribbean than other groups but they are still entitled to not be defined by this. They live in urban areas, often with lack of opportunity. Bangladeshi are poorer on average in the UK but commit less crime. This does not mean their issues should be seen as more pressing or less deserved than black Carribbean. They face different opportunity and living situation. Understand the victims need helping too, even if they don't fit your bill as ivctim

[+]Fine-Glass-9875 -1 points0 points1 point 4 months ago (9 children) | Copy Link

You say that ignoring men’s issues is what is the cause for this, but you don’t really explain, are you saying men and now (recently 1960s) women are ignoring men’s issues? have men been ignoring their own issues for centuries?

i’m also saying use their criminality as an excuse to tackle the issues they face, not the other way around as you suggested above. i’m not saying there isn’t nuance to why men commit the majority of crimes, there’s all types of reasons obviously. i also believe we shouldn’t use things like crime against people. who knows how they experienced life. but what you are insinuating is that we minimize and limit how people respond to crime to solve it. we already do this in much of the civilized world. i’m saying we call out the problem that is causing it and we cut off the infection causing it as much as possible. saying men commit most crime is not unfair, it is the truth. many many people confuse unfairness with understanding a situation as it is. because we are so accustomed to referring to crime as a societal problem we ignore who is mostly responsible for it. This is a problem bc we can’t diagnose the reason for it if we cant pin down who is doing most of it and how they are being treated or—forced as you said— into it. my phycology professor taught me if im having a problem on causation remove all possible controlled substances and ppl from the equation. so if we removed women from all of history would there still be crime ? of course, because most crime is committed against men by men.

Economic inequality obviously has a lot to do with it, but it’s not the main cause for crime, if it was, women would be doing way more of it. Women are roughly 21% more likely to live in poverty than men based on official 2024 measures. this tells me it’s mostly based on size and ego.

there’s no problem with saying something as it is. it doesn’t mean we hate men, it means we love them, and we see their struggles and behaviors and believe that it doesn’t have to be this way. many of us are survivors of male crime and that’s why we take such a passionate approach towards it. saying things in definite terms helps people cope with terrible situations.

you also said ‘whether or not emotions have anything to do with it’ and then proceeded to explain why emotions and social interactions have everything to do with it, thus proving my argument.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Gold_10 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I am not saying emotions and social interactions have nothing to do with it. But the idea of protecting men directly from crime does not need to be ignored. If one group is most likely to be attacked, that group needs protecting. Instead we see little to no focus on this. It doesn't matter what the cause is. We can try and tackle male criminality on top of protecting males. Same as with black males in the UK.  Whether or not the factor is economic, social or psychological. Obviously there have been arguements for all these for differences in crime between sex, class and ethnicity. We won't just remove all attempt at protecting the black male because it was black on black crime and instead focus on economically bettering black families. We can do both.  This conversation is on the lack of care for the safety of men.

[–]Fine-Glass-98751 point 4 months ago [recovered] | Copy Link

well the thing is, if men weren’t doing as much crime it would directly decrease the amount of crime, thus directly protecting men from crime. this is the only way to prevent crime from happening. you can treat victims of crime better all you want but the ppl doing the crime will still be making and producing more victims. you can tell men to be carful like women are, but most likely they will not listen. there’s an inherent safeness most men feel when they leave the house that a woman doesn’t because of their size and the assumption that men can’t get hurt.

my thing is that, you have no point, you’re entire point is that men need protection and that’s true and all, but ultimately what does that look like? We already have protection for men. we already have police. we’ve already normalized men owning guns(in america), they are already the bigger sex, they already have internal survival instincts from biology. the only thing that helps them is acting like women do, going nowhere without men, not being out at night, not having dangerous friends, being small and weak and thus infantilized. that’s no solution. i don’t really even get your point.

i’d say we are pretty advanced already at protecting people from crime and we are at the absolute highest levels ever seen in history. If you’re talking about interpersonal crime which mostly effects women i see your point, men should have more resources, but the issue of homicides, and, stranger crime, and theft still majorly effects men. how do we protect a man from a homicide without infantilizing them and dehumanizing them like we do for women? a man picking between women, children, and men to shoot will almost always shoot the man. there’s no protecting them without also seeing them as defenseless and that’s just hard to do when women and children exist bc in comparison it is obvious they are stronger and bigger. that’s why we shouldn’t put protection at the top of the list, no amount of protection will lessen the amount of criminals and with them crime.

we know what works already and we’ve already seen it in major cities with lots of fucking crime.

Chicago ended 2025 with significant, historic drops in violent crime under Mayor Brandon Johnson, recording the fewest murders since 1965. homicides recorded after he became mayor saw a 30% decrease. shootings dropped by 33%. there was a significant decrease in vehicular hijackings down 50%. And a 36% decrease in robberies.

do you know how they did this ? Increased funding for youth employment and mental health services! community outreach, mediators, and community based organizations that directly help ppl (not even with hand outs btw) to make better choices and to get them out of toxic environments. all of this has saved lives and addressed the real problem which is mental health, and toxic masculine environments and traits.

Baltimore's 2025 crime reduction success was primarily driven by a comprehensive, evidence-based public safety strategy led by Mayor Brandon Scott, which shifted the focus from "zero-tolerance" policing to a public health model targeting root causes. connecting over 330 high-risk individuals to life coaching and wraparound services. Approximately 97.7% of participants did not commit new crimes after enrolling in these services.

^^ Homicides: 133 recorded (31% drop). Non-Fatal Shootings: Decreased by 24.5% (311 victims vs. 423 in 2024). Juvenile Homicide: Victims fell by 78%. Property & Other Violent Crimes: Carjackings: Decreased by 36%. Robberies: Decreased by 29%. Motor Vehicle Theft: Decreased by 33%. Aggravated Assaults: Decreased by 11%.

this strategy was used by every city that saw a major decrease in crime in the last decade.

you protect black males by helping them. you protect black males by offering them mental health services, and support. you protect them by getting them off drugs. your argument is too vague and doesn’t have data to suggest it works.

your whole thing is just that crime is inevitable which is just not true. Preventing crime from happening is the only way to protect men. And preventing it means preventing men from making mistakes and seeing the real problem which is male violence. you need to stop living in denial.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Gold_101 point 4 months ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Did I say we don't need to prevent men from commiting crime? You take a left realist stance. We need to take crime against men as seriously as women. We also need to keep resources for people who feel they are at risk of being stabbed, shot, blackmailed, etc. It's about removing the complete double standards.

You are bringing up prevention strategies targeted towards men right? What would those be?

And what denial am I living? Of course crime isn't inevitable, you could get crime rates down pretty quickly if you impose an ultra authoritarian state, 1984 style. You bring up the most dangerous cities in the western world. You believe crime happens due to male ego? How will we tackle this so called male ego that definitely doesn't also affect society in damning ways, due to natural sex differences. Just stick to the social class issues and we can safely and securely reduce crime, more money and security to working class, less crime. Social issues can't just be changed like that. Where on the world has culture just changed?

Men are the way they are for a reason, in a world where wars still rage. To suggest I'm in denial

[–]Fine-Glass-98751 point 4 months ago [recovered] | Copy Link

i literally answered every single one of these questions in my post above did u even read it?

[–]Fine-Glass-98751 point 4 months ago [recovered] | Copy Link

it actually does work to provide mental health services to at risk individuals who may commit crime and prevent it before it happens, also you didn’t address how we would remove the double standards without infantilizing men like we do with women and children. you can’t just say we should do something and provide no explanation.

[–]Fine-Glass-98751 point 4 months ago [recovered] | Copy Link

where is the world has culture just changed? UM I LITERALLY SAID BALTIMORE AND CHICAGO ARE U STUPID. AM I TALKING TO A BABY?? “you are bring up prevention strategies towards men what would those be?” DID U NOT EVEN READ MY TEXT ABOVE. mental health and community outreach HAS PROVABLY REDUCED CRIME AND SAVED LIVES IN EVERY CITY THAT HAS TRIED IT BY 30-50%. wtf are u even talking about at this point. gentrification won’t solve anything, addressing mens issues will. saying ‘you could get crime down quickly if you make us a dictator ship’ is fucking bat shit insane what is your problem like actually? i’ve never spoken to someone so intent on proving me right.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Gold_101 point 4 months ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Calm down you cunt, first and foremost, don't ever send me multiple replies to one comment, just sort yourself out.

Ive said what im talking about. Offering support to male victims and potential victims. The potential victims are high. They need support. Boys who are being groomed into gangs, Snapchat fueds and other unsavoury groups need help. Those who have been victimised by gangs in whatever way, whether through drugs or violence, need help. It's not that I'm disagreeing with the idea of preventative strategies. I do believe they are the way forward. They are costly and can overstep boundaries as well though.

[–]Aggressive_Dog3418 5 points6 points7 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So by your standards it's ok to be racist since 16% of the population (black individuals) commit 40ish percent of the crime?

[–]MisterBowTies 81 points82 points83 points 4 months ago (60 children) | Copy Link

They don't care who gets hurt more at night (men get robbed more and are the target of more violent crimes) they care who they say "feels" more unsafe. And they put crimes that affect women more, like rape and sexual assault, as significantly worse than other violent crimes.

[+]sicksickel -83 points-82 points-81 points 4 months ago (59 children) | Copy Link

And is it  also the women that are robbing and committing violent crimes more at night?

[–]MisterBowTies 61 points62 points63 points 4 months ago (39 children) | Copy Link

The narrative is that women are less safe than men except data shows that men are victims of more of those crimes than women are. The gender of the criminal doesn't affect the data.

[+]sicksickel -7 points-6 points-5 points 4 months ago (9 children) | Copy Link

By it isn't relevant I mean that  it doesn't have to be the same everywhere else in the world just because it happens in the us , it's not something  that can be generalised both men and woman do get attacked  (obviously) you cannot just say  that woman face less crimes than men do , if men face more violent crimes then women face more sexual crimes

[–]MisterBowTies 34 points35 points36 points 4 months ago (6 children) | Copy Link

According to this data, which includes sexual crimes. There are more male victims than female victims. Data from the FBI is a very credible and relevant source.

[–]sicksickel 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (5 children) | Copy Link

As your data states male victims face more violent crimes , but woman face more sexual crimes , none which is any less than the other?

[–]MisterBowTies 27 points28 points29 points 4 months ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Everything there is a type of violent crime. And when you total it up men are the victims of more crimes than women, it is right at the top of the page. What you are doing is taking the one subcategory of violent crimes that affect women more and trying to say it is worse somehow.

[–]sicksickel -1 points0 points1 point 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

violent crime is Murder, assault, robbery, kidnapping. While sexual crime is Rape, sexual assault, indecent exposure, sexual grooming, revenge pornography.

[–]sicksickel -2 points-1 points0 points 4 months ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Holy shit when did I say it's worse?

[–]MisterBowTies12 points 4 months ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If you aren't trying to say it's worse then why do you keep belaboring it? Out of the many categories of violent crimes, one affects women more and that is the one you keep trying to put a spotlight on. It doesn't change the fact that more victims of violent crimes are men.

[–]UnabsolvedGuilt6 points 4 months ago [recovered] | Copy Link

100% that is what you’re insinuating. Why even bring it up as a point of comparison otherwise.

[–]UnabsolvedGuilt 8 points9 points10 points 4 months ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

This is what trying to argue without a purpose looks like. You SHOULD contextualise your stats in their countries for a lot of reasons, but primarily bc government reporting is the main reason some of this information even exists- and the US has some solid institutions for peer review and validating methodology that does not always exist for numbers from other countries.

It’s not about discounting global stats, it is just not useful to use them in a conversation like this for a variety of reasons. What is useful tho is checking your own preconceptions about your country against reality, because if it is the case that women are in reality more safe from random violent crime than they generally “feel” in the States, then we ought to interrogate where those feelings originate to make sure we’re not spreading irrational dogma.

I’m not a huge city person but I lived in the hood in Baltimore and Miami for years and it was easy to avoid violence by not making company of violent people, so there is just no good reason for a bunch of suburbanites who have never even been around said violent people to be afraid of their lives when walking around their safe neighbourhoods. That’s not vigilance, it’s paranoia, and you absolutely do not want to live in a highly paranoid society.

To your last point, “if men face more violent crimes then women face more sexual crimes”- that is said in the first comment of the thread, “They don't care who gets hurt more at night (men get robbed more and are the target of more violent crimes) they care who they say "feels" more unsafe. And they put crimes that AFFECT WOMEN MORE, like rape and sexual assault, as significantly worse than other violent crimes”.

This is what I mean by arguing without a purpose, you want to disagree so bad that you equivocated and circled back to saying something that the person you’re arguing with literally said upfront. That is bad faith, unless you are actually incapable of understanding his point well enough to honestly engage with it.

Edit: either I can’t see your reply or you deleted it, but confirmation bias? Not the argument you think it is in this case.

[–]sicksickel1 point 4 months ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Who is they??  This is kinda like conformation bias , if a murder happens or of someone is assaulted  it does get reported on the news and it is treated equally as bad  ," they don't care who gets hurt more at night" does getting sexualy assaulted not hurt?  Why are you implying that men get hurt more. When both men and women get hurt. Doesn't that make you same as those very extremists you hate , can you show a valid source where it  states  that sexual crimes are more worse than violent crimes??

i don’t have a narrative, men are complex multidimensional beings. i’m saying YOU are so mad at woman, that you can’t even engage with me; a person trying to help and understand men. you threw personal insults at me this entire time when i haven’t done that to u.

Well it will "hurt your feelings" but I feel like I'm arguing with a 12 year old. It is hard to understand what you are trying to say. Now you are trying to make this conversation about how I hurt your feelings because you can't find a good retort to what I have said. Grow up.

How is it wrong when woman say that they feel unsafe at night because of men

[–]WonderfulMistake7976 29 points30 points31 points 4 months ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Because you’re using a small percentage of men who are violent to paint an entire gender as the problem. Women are more likely to kill children than men are. Is it fair to say children are not safe around women in general?

[–]UnabsolvedGuilt 13 points14 points15 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would love to see the answer to this to see if there is any internal consistency. The exact same logic used with provable stats, does this justify the general statement that children are not safe around women- or will there be some sort of rationale to make it still men’s faults 🤔

[–]Raphe9000 10 points11 points12 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For the same reason it's wrong for people to say they feel unsafe at night because of black people. Hell, even your "men are attacking men" argument is just a reworded version of "black on black crime".

The race or sex of the offender says nothing about the validity of the victim's victimhood, and there's never a valid reason to fear or blame someone of one race or sex because of the actions of someone sharing those immutable characteristics.

In both cases, statistics are also likely skewed, as it's been proven that the justice system is inherently biased against black people and men. This is especially shown in how black men, by being at the intersection of the most disadvantaged race and sex within the justice system, are particularly overrepresented when it comes to convictions (and punishment intensities for the same actions) in a way that cannot be attributed solely to or the other immutable characteristic (as they receive worse treatment than white men and black women combined).

This also inherently means that, by perpetuating the sexist ideals you currently are, you are disproportionately affecting black men and thus systemic racism against them. Do better.

[–]63daddy 12 points13 points14 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, men perpetrate more violent crime than women, but the post is about the risk of being victimized not about the sex of the perpetrator.

In the U.S., men are victims of violent crime more than women and 4-5 times more likely to be murdered. Women don’t face more risk. They face less risk.

Male perpetrators are more likely to kill other men than kill women, but that’s really irrelevant to the issue. Someone who is murdered is dead regardless of the sex of the perpetrator.

The graphic posted by the OP insinuates women face more risk than men, but they don’t. They either incorrectly perceive more risk or are more risk averse. (Or both).

[–]Status-Evening-1434 11 points12 points13 points 4 months ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ahh, so men can die and get robbed on the street, that's completely fine, just because "other men" are doing it /s

Men get killed more, and robbed more. Feminists like downplaying it because it doesn't fit their "femicide" agenda. They want to prioritize "violence against women" even though men are at higher risk, and when we mention that men are at higher risk, it is immediately dismissed with "But other men! "Toxic masculinity!" And other buzzwords and red herrings.

[–]Fine-Glass-9875 -2 points-1 points0 points 4 months ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Apparently the women are afraid of attackers jumping out of the trees on them.

[–]critical_Bat 44 points45 points46 points 4 months ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It is less about actual danger than perceived danger. The study had 571 participants and the abstract begins with the following.

Fear of crime can influence our view of and experience with the world around us. This can be problematic for individuals seeking physical activity, including from walk commuting. Prior work shows fear is especially evident among women, who report fear of rape and sexual abuse by men as a primary concern.

Do the results align with assault data? If not are unrealistic fears fuelled by media and news or is it more innate? Maybe the women are much smarter and the men are overconfident in their ability to withstand an attack.

[–]63daddy 11 points12 points13 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is exactly it. Perceptions, fears and concerns often don’t align with actual statistical risk. Just because women may fear more for their safety doesn’t mean they face more risk. Similarly, the fact society and organizations like the UN focus more on women’s safety isn’t driven by actual risk but rather is driven by gynocentrism.

[–]DevilishRogue 17 points18 points19 points 4 months ago (6 children) | Copy Link

It is less about actual danger than perceived danger.

It's less about perceived danger and more about the importance the individual places on their own safety and well-being. Women place far higher importance on their own safety than men, who are socialized into the expectation of self-sacrifice in the event of threat.

[+]critical_Bat -7 points-6 points-5 points 4 months ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Gender theory for men.

That theory would require the mens view to be less concentrated than it is.

[–]DevilishRogue 7 points8 points9 points 4 months ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Of the two sexes you want the smaller, weaker and slower sex to assume the protector role?

That's an interesting twist on what I said. It could also be spun as the sex by far less likely to be attacked to attempt to diffuse situations. But neither is what I was saying, which is that the issue is one of perception of the individual's self-value determining the extent to which they fret about the fear of being attacked.

[–]critical_Bat 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You ascribed it to socialisation. I understood it as something you werent happy with.

Lower self value (or societal value) and being of the sex generally better suited to respond are not the same thing.

But more importantly is there anyhing in the attached screenshot you feel supports your claim?

How is he personally, outside of his normal moral obligations to not commit violence, meant to reduce violent crime himself?

[+]Fine-Glass-9875 -2 points-1 points0 points 4 months ago (10 children) | Copy Link

there’s a lot of proven evidence that violence is so prevalent in men bc of how they are socially conditioned. emotions are weak and seen as too feminine to be had by men. if i couldn’t cry my entire life id be angry too and probably commit some heinous act, but my emotions were treated as normal behavior bc im a girl. so spreading that word that it’s okay to not be okay and maybe even posting a resource on here for other men to vent about their problems could help. instead it just seems like everyone is content to blame feminism which by the literal definition is not the problem (equality of the sexes is not something to be offended by). lifting up other men, reaching out to friends and stranger on here that say they are going to kill themselves is something only i (a woman) seem to be doing. while everyone else is focused on owning the feminist women. r/menslib is a better subreddit for men who actually want help and want to be helped for mental health.

[–]Mother_Court4478 6 points7 points8 points 4 months ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I don't disagree with you.

The problem is is that the pendulum has back swung.

[+]Fine-Glass-9875 -1 points0 points1 point 4 months ago (2 children) | Copy Link

how? on what issues ?

[–]TSSalamander 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

if i may interject. When it comes to the pendulum swing effect there's two things happening at once. 1. Certain metricts have actually swung in the opposite direction in certain environments. For instance educational attainment is women heavy everywhere, and this does directly have an impact on the wages of the younger people in our society spesifically. Women ages 20 to 30 have better job prospects and opportunities and wages than their male counterparts in many western countries. There's also things that swung a long time ago, like homelessness. which used to be a realm of single mothers, and is now mostly a thing men suffer. Especially since the accommodations for male homeless people are significantly worse than the alternative. 2. Holdover effects that haven't been adressed. Suicide, Gang membership, Homocide rates. the chances of a boy or man to fall out of society have always been greater ever since industrialisation, and that hasn't changed. In addition, things like mandatory military service, which is life altering for so many people, the risk of conscription. And the constant dehumanisation that comes with the patriarchal understanding of the male condition. the Dangerous Animal Under Containment model. It has massive consequences, such as higher sentencing, a constant deference to the discomfort of women over one's own, disposability, and a wide range of dehumanising tools of control that constantly show up. Living as a man is to live as human conditional*. There's also tons of extremely terrible narratives around masculinity, and the male gender role broadly, in which all sides seem dedicated to essentially make sure they're the ones holding the leesh on men. Under the patriarchy men are violence machines used to enforce the consensus. Nobody is seemingly actually aiming to break this system, only change who operates it. The fundamental reality is that the Tamed Beast model of men means that actual emotional instability is treated not with sympathy and aid but with isolation. Insecurity is seen as threatening. Anxiety, awkwardness, and depression are taken as signs that the taming is failing. 3. A metric to see which force in society is dominant socially regarding the consensus is to look at who's managing to label the other more effectively. Labeling is a practice where a dominant social group takes a behavior, labels it, and condemns it, thus limiting the space of action for the non dominant group. In the 50s, women could be labled as hysterical. Today, the labels go the other way. There's around 50 trillion methods to label to emasculate a man, any behavior a woman finds annoying or unpleasant by a man had a particular label that condemns him as evil. Is he explaining how you're wrong? mansplaining. Is he taking up space? manspreading. Is he ever angry or offended? toxic masculinity. Mind you all of these words are terms, which is how the label works. There's a motte and a bailey. The motte is the actual terminology, usually reffering to a behavior that both genders may engage in but which have been gendered, framed as motivated by a particularly emasculating or machismoist cause, and thus spesifically made into something men do to women and if a woman does it then it's unfortunate but not the norm, or if your space is really female dominated and toxic, it's funny.

There's almost too many to list.

One thats close to me and my own personal struggles is the absolute lack of parity between how the law, including police treat men differently from women on too many occasions. Especially surrounding issues to do with 'domestic violence'.

[–]mrmensplights 5 points6 points7 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The study does not support "Men see paths, women scan for danger". It only supports that women scan more while men focus more. That's it. Everything else is just researches projecting themselves on to the data and choosing to serve an agenda.

In reality, crime statistics and actual data are very clear: It's far more dangerous to walk alone at night as a man than a woman. Full stop.

Here is another well understood psychological fact: Women report higher levels of fear of crime than men, despite men's actual victimization rates being far higher most offenses. Women have both higher levels of both perceived risk of specific crimes and also generalized fear of crime. Hypervigilance doesn't justify itself. Just because you feel it doesn't mean it's real. In this case, it's not.

Of course, in our society instead of educating women about their psychological biases so they can live better and more free lives, we propagandize them with hate and fear narratives - turning the dial up to eleven on their inherent fear and anxiety. People who are afraid are easier to control, and people easier to control can be used to serve agendas.

As usual men are made the scape goat.

[–]Comedyislandd 6 points7 points8 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Granted, CPTED studies do show that perceptions of public spaces do differ, with women being more apprehensive and perceive danger higher. But crime statistics reveal rather plainly that men themselves are more likely to be victims of violent crime. So its a bit of a funny conundrum, (as far as i understand).

[–]daymitjim 7 points8 points9 points 4 months ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I have an idea, let's walk in high heels, alone, at night, in inebriated condition towards ominous terrain, and make sure we don't have our phones at the ready, no assault alarm, no pepper spray, while making sure no one knows where we are.

The world will provide our safety, nothing can go wrong.
I love excitement.

/s

I run alone at night,- and i'm pretty scared but know i can outrun most people and be big enough of a problem for most sane people to not want to attack me.
But i have been assaulted a number of times, but mostly when there's drunk people around.
This is a risk men learn to live with and calculate.
Most women aren't violently assaulted on the sidewalk if they walk or stand alone,- that's a risk that is way higher for men, and is something men adjust to.
Women literally just have to avoid walking alone at night,- that's literally it.
Most men shouldn't either, but men are expected to calculate their own risk and are told they're stupid for putting themselves at risk.
This simple part of adult life is somehow missing from the female experience, and personally,- i find it incredibly frustrating.

I've given assault alarms to several of the women in my life, friends and family,- and NOT ONE of them have kept those around.
You just can't help people that childishly refuse to take responsibility for their own safety,- there's only so much we can do for them.
I think all we can do is continue to say "be mindful".
Ultimately "men", will be blamed. And that is the case with all things.
It's sad and frustrating.

Btw, if this gaze measurement test was done on me, it'd show me frantically scanning for risk, even when walking with other people at daytime,- i don't ever feel safe.
People that don't take precaution are people that haven't been attacked.
Also,- measuring eye movement like this isn't necessarily a good representative of effectively scanning your surroundings,- you don't look more than you have to. Women are more neurotic than men, and in certain situations this would surely become noticeable.
Women are right to feel nervous walking alone, should be more afraid, and would be evolutionarily unfit if that wasn't reflected in their behavior.
It only takes one predator, and my impression is that as in most crimes, there's a small minority of offenders that offend repeatedly.

IMO, men experience more violence and assaults,- and women, if they make stupid decisions make themselves visible to the minority of very effective predators out there,- but if they are around people they are on average way safer than men are.

I recently saw on one of the running subs; a lady that lived in a rural area, that ran at night, but asked for advice regarding safety.
I'm really happy for women that live in places where it's less risky to do things like that,- it's great.
But the world isn't safe and you have to adjust to your environment,- and even then there's still always a chance something bad might happen.
I think many women can, if they get fit and fast and know the terrain, can take more chances,- but at the end of the day you have to calculate your own risk and take precaution,- no one is exempt from that.
The world is scary and risky,- get used to it.

Oh, btw; i see now that this experiment was set in a campus setting.
That is pretty much rape central,- which is a specific setting where i think men on average would feel not as threatened. Women (and men) should be afraid in high risk areas,- and gender segregation wouldn't necessarily help in this setting either. Henhouses attract foxes, and it only takes one.
Predators are systematic in their approach and will be repeatedly successful as long as the targets aren't as systematic in their precaution habits.

Wear a whistle as a pendant, have an assault alarm, have some pepper spray or a similar product, tell people you trust if you go somewhere alone, consider having a tracker app on your phone that you can activate when doing anything risky, avoid unfamiliar terrain at night, be vigilant,- build good safety routines.
I think doing that will help you feel less afraid and help you live better lives.
Don't avoid thinking about bad stuff, think about solutions and the bad stuff won't be as scary, or risky :)

These ppl cannot help but be dishonest. Imagine you said men get stabbed and brutally murdered in comparison to women getting harassed to down it the same way the other guy did.

The only time murder is ever downplayed to this extent is in the context of male victims btw.

Then to say “women also get attacked and mugged…” as if men aren’t also victimised by those exact same things. Most rape in general is not a result of stranger violence for as much you’d believe with all the talk of women being scared of going out at night, happens to them far more in ip relationships the exact same way it does to male victims, who are continuously victim blamed by defining rape as exclusively forcefully penetrated and not made to penetrate.

Do you genuinely think men get raped and kidnapped as much as women do?

[–]Mr_Tuts_7558 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Um I don't know about kidnapped statistics... But yea, men do get raped as much as women do.

[+]Lillliana22222 -1 points0 points1 point 4 months ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

It’s common knowledge that women are more likely to get raped/sexually assaulted/kidnapped/generally put in danger than men. That’s why when rape is portrayed in media, 9 times out of 10, it’s usually happening to a woman. That’s why girls are gifted pepper spray for their birthdays. That’s why women have to ask people to walk them to their car. That’s why parents are often a lot more protective of their daughters than their sons. I could keep going on.

I won’t insult you and I’m not coming from a bad place. I think we’re all humans and i believe women and men should come together. I care about both men’s rights and women’s rights because I want equality in this world, which is why I try my best to be as objective, understanding, respectful and unbiased when looking at the issues men face, and men face many struggles for sure, but let’s be honest, luckily, rape isn’t one of them. Now I’m not calling you as a person silly or delusional , but I’m not gonna lie, it is pretty silly and delusional to think that men get raped just as much as women. You should be happy you’re at a significantly lower risk of rape than women are instead of trying to claim that the rape statistics of women and men are equal when 5 seconds of research will prove you wrong.

You're wrong.

Men are just as likely to be raped as women are. CDC's NISVS reports have showed 1 in 7 men are raped by a woman in their lifetime compared to 1 in 5 women. The gap isn't high enough for you to say that "oh but it's common knowledge women are raped more than men are".

Men are more likely to be victims of violent crimes, including kidnapping, being mugged, and murdered, etc. Men make up for 79% of victims of all homicides globally, and 75% just in North America, 80% of the victims of physical violence, 65% of victims of all robberies... They also suffer from aggravated assault at rates up to three times higher than women. These are all from Statistique Canada, Victims and Survivors of Crime Week, and Wikipedia.

When "rape" is portrayed in media, they use biased gendered definitions of rape that ignore the 1.6 million men being raped in the US alone, or rely on police reported data, which is skewed from men not reporting their abuse. Most men don't even think what they are going through is abuse... And even when they do report it, they're either not believed, or arrested themselves, despite being the victims. Check out TheTinMen's work, he's made a piece on this.

5 seconds of research will prove you wrong

Talk about research when you didn't cite a SINGLE source lmao. You didn't even look past headlines and police reported data... We should absolutely care about all victims, and that includes acknowledging men's struggles with violence, including sexual violence, instead of downplaying them because they don't fit your "common knowledge" narrative.

Not only are men attacked more but they are attacked with a higher degree of violence as well, because people do not think twice about using violence against men the way they do against women. Women are considered a protected class, so both men and women will be less likely to use violence against them.

Being robbed or physically assaulted would also be far more likely than being raped, kidnapped or sexually assaulted by a man. Men also have their own unique risks, outside of the extreme violence, in forms of false accusations, violence committed by law enforcement or violence committed in the name of "vigilante justice".

That is also to say that men can be raped, kidnapped or sexually assaulted too. Men who are worth money can often be kidnapped and held for ransom. Sexual assault and rape does happen against men, often from women, it just doesn't get reported as much and is never taken as seriously.

Women also often tend to over-panic and over-state dangers, as you can see from these pictures, and under-prepare, as many women refuse to learn how to fight or strength train(increasing their odds of victimization). They will perceive or imagine danger where there is none, and ignore threats/dangers when they shouldn't.

Men face significantly higher victimization rates than women when it comes to violent crime. And as far as i understand, the reason for this has very little to do with victim blaming arguments like personal predilections toward idiocy and poor awareness as you suggested. Your argument actually has less credibility than the suggestion that female victims of sexual crime should just "not wear that", because the statistical difference between gendered sexual crime is less drastic than violence crime.

The point is this graphic only really shows is how shite women are at situational awareness.

Which is some evidence that they are not as victimised as men on the whole as if they were THEY WOULD BE BETTER AT THREAT DETECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

You are probably looking at this and thinking "wow look how aware they are, you go girls!!!!" but what it is actually showing is a lack of awareness.

[–]OffTheRedSand -5 points-4 points-3 points 4 months ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i don't see it as shit tho. they're looking at their surroindings rather than the obvious point where it's clearly "safe" or no one is there.

anyways statistics show who is actually shit at situational awarness and it's men, since they get robbed and attacked more.

As I have alerady posted...

Look at where they are looking, its not the main axis of threat in the images and they are lowering their ability to detect movement to the sides because they are narrowing their field of vision by swinging their head to the side or swivelling their eyes off centre to much.

At night the best way to detect movement is with your peripheral vision and frankly for distance detection your hearing is your best sense.

This a classic fucking case of "feels over reals"...

but they aren't more likely to be raped and sexually assaulted like women do.

They're far more likely to be murdered than women, however. 81%* more likely, in fact.

Men are more likely to get robbed, stabbed, beaten up or otherwise physically injured. Because it’s so safe for us to go out alone at night and people care so much about what happens to us. But hey we don’t have as strong social networks as women so not a lot of choice.

As a guy you look straight ahead to avoid trouble. Making eye contact with the hooded drunk guy across the street is not a good idea.

I guess it’s based on statistics maybe?

[–]Centaur_Warchief123 38 points39 points40 points 4 months ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What statistics? Men are multiple times more likely to be attacked at night, a woman walking alone is safer than a man walking alone.

[–]RavenEridan 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I wonder why that is tbh, is it due to robberies?

[–]Centaur_Warchief123 14 points15 points16 points 4 months ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think the main reason is women are both less likely to be robbed or interacted with anyway at night compared to men by bad people but also any interaction with men is more likely to end with violence, ie. a man would have a higher chance of resisting a robbery resulting in it going wrong.

[–]Wylanderuk 5 points6 points7 points 4 months ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also there is probably a higher likely hood of bystander intervention if its a female.
