For LTR I would say the former because the woman might want resources. For ONS I would say the latter. Men sleep with a lot of women they would never be seen in public with. Any woman propositioned by a man who's way more attractive better know he's only looking for a human fleshlight.

When was the last time you saw a very attractive woman with a physically unattractive man where you weren't more than 80% sure the guy had considerable resources? I really can't remember a the last time I did.

On the other hand, I see pretty homely women paired with men who are objectively better looking than me almost every day. That's not saying a ton, but these are women I would not pursue. Ever.

I don't see either very commonly. What I do hear are guys complaining about couples. I used to think sour grapes when I heard a guy say 'What does she see in him?" but I am starting to realise that guys can't determine the attractiveness of other men very well and a significant number of them overestimate their own attractiveness.

I had an interesting conversation with a family court judge over the weekend.

"2s dont marry 10s, regardless of your first impressions" is what he said.

Basically, if one spouse is visibly ugly or crazy, the other one is some function of that, whether you see it or not.

This is coming from somebody that oversaw divorces for several decades.

Looking at the couples in my life, the man and woman tend to be pretty equal. The men might be slightly more attractive. (Many are in the military, so they're very fit and clean cut.) People tend to shoot for the best they can get, which is usually pretty close to their own level.

In my own marriage, I think my husband and I started out on the same level, and as time went on, he got hotter. Way hotter. So now we're unbalanced. It's a nice perk for me, and he doesn't seem to mind. But it does make me wonder that if we had met now, would we have still ended up together?

I personally don't see couples with vast differences that often. Most couples I know tend to be on the same or similar levels. The place I saw the highest difference in couples was in high school - more attractive woman, less attractive man. That was most likely because we had a small school with very few good looking guys compared to girls.

Idk, I don't think everyone is attracted to the same thing despite what TRP says, so I think we can't so simply judge what one person fins attractive.

I mean, John Lennon was famous and rich and could probably choose whoever he liked and he chose a woman who is considered ugly by many.

Honestly, I have no idea what's going on, other than maybe I find more women "super hot" than most guys. Or they must make up for looks with money/status, or they have stellar game, but really I have no idea...

Well, attraction is subjective, so you can be attractive to someone, but not be attractive to someone else.

But the world isn't black and white, I know very well that you mean "attraction" on an objective level. The thing is that you have to consider other things besides just looks for these types of couples. The "ugly" partner is usually the one that compensates for their lack of aesthetic appeal. Be it with charisma, money, etc., they make up for it to the point that they have the same SMV as their "attractive" partner.

I see less physically attractive men with more physically attractive women more often than the reverse.

The only exception to that that I see with any degree of frequency is fit guys with very overweight women, but in those situations the women tend to have unusually pretty faces while the men's are average at best, so I put it down to those men prioritizing facial aesthetics over body and using their hot bods to leverage themselves a better deal in that department.

Setting aside wealthy men, men and women tend to end up with partners of about the same relative level of attractiveness, IMHO.

Wealthy guys tend to get attractive partners regardless of whether or not they are good looking. There are fewer wealthy women and there seems to be more of a social stigma attached to having a boy toy.

I don't often see unattractive man with very attractive woman. Those relationships tend not to last because of the power differential. The woman can easily replace the unattractive man, and does so.

The unattractive woman/very attractive man is more common, particularly among men who want LTRs and marriage. This pairing also works much better. She is very attracted to him; and he is kinda sorta attracted to her. He can also cheat if he wants to (some do, most don't). The attraction differential is what makes it work. He has most of the power in the relationship. Funnily, both the man and woman want it that way.

It's more common to see small gap couples with a less attractive man (8 girl, 6.5 guy), and large gap couples with a more attractive guy (6.5 guy, 3 girl).

My guess as to the reason for this is that men are more proficient at making up small gaps by being rich/clever/well endowed. Once a man clears the binary hurdle of "Is he f*ckable?" Female attraction comes down to mostly to confidence and personality.

On the male side, you have a a greater variance of what can be considered attractive, as well as more difficulty for men in getting sex. So a man who isn't rich/clever/well endowed scoops up essentially, 'what he can get'.

You're defining attractiveness as only physical aesthetics. It's innacurate, and is the only reason why you think their attractiveness has a large difference.

An unattractive man with a very attractive woman is much more common. I never saw the other constellation. Women are also more attractive than men in general, so it's more likely.

Btw. I saw a study once which concluded that if the mother is very attractive they're more likely to have daughters, if the man is very successful they're more likely to have sons. Attractivess is just more important to the female species (& success to the male - or perhaps it's the ressources that comes with success which can propel sons into success)
