I was rereading Philip K Dick’s book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and thinking more about who androids are and their essence. It talks about how androids don’t have empathy. Which is part of why they aren’t humans. Another interesting feature is that they can’t sense a presence of another human being. They don’t recognize consciousness…because they don’t have a real Self-consciousness (in a very much Hegelian sense). Yet, they don’t really know it because they don’t know what it feels like to be anything different. Yet, they want to be real and believe themselves to be real. They want to have subjectivity…to be fucking agents and thus pretend to be real.

So they still want some amount of power. Kind of like men. Therefore, men are more similar to androids than women. Yeah, majority of men are empty creatures only powered through life by desire for sex, food, and power. Basic drives like androids. Andoids don’t have empathy and neither do most men (because of their ego and pride). Neither of them have significant enough emotions to call it a state of consciousness. And lastly, men are always playing the role of a subject in dating, or at least try to when you don’t correct them. They want subjectivity so badly because they aren’t real in other ways (Emotions is what makes us feel like real humans, and neither men nor androids have them). And by subjectivity I mean agency. Something similar to free will, but not all the way there (it’s not free will).

Because modern industrialized capitalistic society is pretty rough on human agency: most people don’t have any agency due to the nature of our society. The only way men are capable of getting that sense of agency is through the women they date. And yet, they aren’t willing to give that same agency/recognition to women. They (men) are Grinches when it comes to expanding energy on women. They try to expand as little energy as possible. If they pick you up and buy you dinner, then they won’t last longer than a minute in bed. And on and on. It’s almost as if they will vanish if they expand an ounce of emotional energy on you or have a genuine interest in what you read.
