They're not meant to solve the problem of inequality, they're a bandaid measure meant to alleviate the symptoms of a larger social issue. Solving inequality would require something far more drastic, like possibly wealth redistribution on a massive scale.

Imagine you’re a former president running for office again. Would you want your body guards to be the most qualified people for the job, or would you rather they be selected on the basis of race and sex? Which would result in you being safest?

These programs are meant to solve a systemic problem at its roots.

I would argue these programs are designed to bypass solving the problem and are simply looking to manufacture results that the designer perceives as better. They try to advantage some groups by discriminating against others.

They throw merit and hard work out the window.

DEI doesn't even work to solve the problem it claims to solve - it ends up putting unqualified people into positions and these unqualified people often get fired as a result.

"Diversity" is a pipeline problem. Girls in elementary and high school not studying STEM is the problem and we can't remedy this at the college level. Black people in shitty public schools is the problem and, again, it cannot be remedied at college. You need to fix K-12 and make sure girls can study STEM even in these early days.

But even then, there may STILL be disparities. The reality is that, at least in the case of women in STEM, most women may be put off doing STEM because they are revolted by 'nerdy' men and so they are averse to the field. Alternatively, lots of women may still think they'll have a hubby or boyfriend who'll be a primary provider so they expect they can be less careeristic and pursue less strenuous fields.

DEI is empty corporate virtue signaling. It doesn't solve problems, it just masks them. What we actually need is school and prison reform (remove school vouchers, pool property taxes for schools instead of localizing them, actually try to rehabilitate people, reduce penalties for crimes of desperation, and massively increase oversight for police departments).

If you mean affirmative action, it should stop at the college level too, and it might.

Kids who are admitted to programs when they’re objectively less qualified than their peers (as measured by test scores) are often the ones paradoxically hurt by AA, because they are more likely to fail or drop out and have wasted time and money on that education.
People get offended by accusations that someone got ahead because of their identity, but I can’t fathom why, because as long as these programs exist it is a very real possibility.

DEI programs are insulting to everyone. But, they have always been around to “adjust the unbalances.” When segregation was ended, it was used then. And many times it just had a different label for the same thing.

However, perhaps consider these couple of things…there is no way to actually prove (short of being part of the decision) that anyone is in fact, not the best candidate.

And this may be a bit out there, but men right here are demanding “DEI” of women. They say women’s standards are too high, that women overlook short men, that they only want wealthy. So they want women to include all.

And there are many women that are anti feminist. I’m one of them.

My sister-in-law's workplace got woke and went broke.

They hired a black female college president, to much fanfare, and she ran the place into the ground. Spent a ton of money frivolously and disbanded the admissions committee which had been laser-focused on keeping admissions up. Once the extra Covid funding went away, they were cooked!

My SIL worked there for nearly 20 years. Her last day was Friday. She hasn't found a new job yet.

Incidentally the college president belonged to the same college sorority as Kamala Harris! Let's hope they're not following the same playbook. Yeesh!

The problem isn't that black disabled lesbians have a hard time, it's the fact that your education system is beyond fucked due to corporate greed and the only way to achieve anything is to be rich or be 100× better than the rich kid.

No they are not. Corporate DEI programs are meant to signal loyalty to the woke religion (and because many corporate leaders genuinely believe in the woke religion).

Without drawing a line to where these programs end, it creates a paradox and a looping cycle.

The unspoken line is the point at which revenge is achieved, i.e. when the current "privileged groups" have experienced just as much oppression as the "oppressed groups" have historically.

On a sidenote, DEI should absolutely not exist at the college level either. If you know anything about the college admissions landscape, affirmative action made it a complete hellscape for Asian and (to a lesser extent) white males. Fortunately the Supreme Court outlawed it, but that hasn't really changed much in practice.
