Edit: A lot of people are commenting on general differences in how cheating is viewed, but my question is why a man's cheating is viewed as an attack on the whole family but with women it is not.

There's been a lot of debate here in evaluating infidelity when it occurs by a man vs a woman and how one is different than the other. I disagree with this, but that's not what this post is about.

A popular sports blogger's wife recently revealed that he had been cheating on her for over a year, while pregnant. Obviously she feels betrayed but it reminded me of something I noticed previously when I read her instagram post:

Notice that she says she can't fathom that he would do this to her, her daughter, and her son. I think this sentiment is understandable and probably shared by most of the public. But I don't see the same thing when a family man is cheated on by his wife. If this happens, he's the only victim, at least that's how it seems the public at large responds, or maybe I just miss the articles in the media.

Remember when that Duggar was caught cheating on his wife multiple times? Some women tried (to be fair, unsuccessfully) some hash tag #breathefire to encourage her to take her daughters and show them they can recover from this and 'breathe fire'.

I just don't remember seeing this type of response when a man is betrayed by his wife, even though it's got to hurt just as much.
