Nah. Here's how it actually works:

Let's say you have two kids (i.e. replacement level fertility).

Your child: 1/2 of your genes. But since you have two kids: 2 children x (1/2) of your genes = 1 full copy of yourself. (Not an exact replica, of course. Some of your chromosomes have 0 copies. Other chromosomes have one copy in one of your children. Other chromosomes have two copies - one in each of your two children. But, on average, it's 1 complete copy of yourself.)

Your grandchild: 1/4th of your genes. But, if each of your two children have two kids (i.e. replacement level fertility), then 4 grandchildren x 1/4th of your genes = 1 full copy of yourself.

Your great grandchildren: 1/8th of your genes. If each of your four grandchildren have two kids, then 8 great-grandchildren x 1/8th of your genes = 1 full copy of yourself.

Your genes don't decay. They continue to exist as long as your children are having children. Obviously your genes increase if your descendants are having more then two kids on average, and your genes are diminishing if your descendants are having fewer than 2 kids on average. (This is how evolution happens. If your genes result in higher survival and higher reproduction, then your genes are actually increasing in the population over time.)

Your genes aren't decaying. It's that subsequent generations end up with exponentially fewer copies of your genes in any one person, but they're spread-out among exponentially larger numbers of people. It all balances out to 1 full copy (on average) - but could be higher or lower depending on factors like chance, selection pressures, etc.

a) If "my" kid suddenly has inherited disease that has never appeared in either my or my wife's family history, and I swallow her lies that the kid is mine hook, line and sinker, then it's me - not my great-grandkids - who will have to sacrifice my own life to cover the kid's medical expenses. And the size of those expenses relative to my income - is not a rounding error. I have only one life.

b) My wife/gf will get me cucked one day and will go on a pro-child support rant based on "sex has consequences, you legally have to accept it, tee hee". For some reason, her side dick who knocked her up didn't have to face consequences; I had to face them for him.

That is fine and all and makes sense, but if genes are just a rounding error, why doesn't the state just have arranged marriage, since it isn't a big deal to either men or women. But I know it is a big deal to many people, otherwise they would just procreate with any walking human.

Regardless if genes don't matter, there is also the time and money factor in raising kids that aren't yours. Some people would gladly do this, but you can't fault others if they don't like it. If this is also not a big deal, would you feel comfortable to donate a cut of your own paycheck for this cause?

You're the one who misunderstands genetics. Two things:

1) People have more than one child (and so pass on potentially more than 100% of their genes): and 2) Humans are not constantly exogamous. At great grandparents x 4, you're talking about fifth cousins. There's a decent chance you'd wind up reproducing with a fifth cousin, especially if you lived in the small communities most humans have throughout our genetic history as a species.
