There are so many better uses for robots. Why not have a robot that does menial tasks around the house, so I can spend more time with my partner? Stress and fatigue are major contributors to decreased libido in men and women, so alleviate some/most of the burden and let's put that extra energy to use...

Honestly, life-like sex robots won't come, even in the next 20 years. I keep seeing a lot of incels out there thinking that sex-robots are only a decade away. It's not even close. The ones on the market nowadays aren't even close to reality lol. The only way realistic sex robots would come sooner than 20 years is if the robotics engineering industry developed them with collaborated effort. There's no money to be made in this business unless the robots are very close to being life-like.

People dismiss or celebrate the idea of sex robots based on their own need or lack there of for them. There are good and bad sides to everything. As for the people who enjoy and are successful at playing the game of sexual human interaction, sex robots are just a new variable in that. If you tend to be superficial and shallow about your sexual behavior, they will aid in that. The opposite is also possible. You can be even more selective about who and why you are with people with these new options available. A lot of the desperation for sexual contact might be lifted, but people will still (possibly even more) want and value actual human connection.

The aspects that always get overlooked when this subject comes up are practical ones that are less exciting. Old people. Disabled people. Super shut-in antisocial people. Sick people. All of those people are still people and are often very lonely. If this new tech can offer a higher quality of life to them, sex aside, that’s a good thing, in my opinion.

Not to mention that we look at this in very simplistic terms. What the idea of a sex robot is to us now isn’t likely to be what it really will be. They will likely be able to be used as surrogates and extensions of ourselves. Meaning you could “drive” one and be with either another person or robot virtually/physically. This will be a new frontier in the idea of gender fluidity and a test of relationships and monogamy in general.

I think the development of sex robots will be a positive thing, until they kill us, but its happening either way, so I feel like the best thing to do is to be optimistic.

Society needs men being over productive to function.

What do I mean by over productive? I mean society needs men to produce more value (earn more money) than just what they need to survive and entertain themselves.

Men are over productive because they think that all the excess production (money) will make them more attractive. Because that excess production (money) can be translated into status and material posesions that are used to attract women.

For a long time that was the case. And for many men that is stil the case.

The majority of the male population wants sex, a relationship and children. That is the peak of what they will ever achieve in life. That is all they can aspire to be and have so they are over productive just to increase their chances to get the girl, the sex, the relationship and the children.

And once he has children he has to be even more productive.

Society benefits from that rat race.

Now that women also work and don't really need men for their ability to provide an increasing number of men is realizing that being over productive is not getting them any closer to what they want. So they stop being over productive.

If enough men stop being over productive then society goes to shit.

The only solution that does not infringe on women's rights is to create a replacement for women that does not have any rights nor free will.

So sex bots and artificial wombs can be the reason why men stay over productive. After all they will have to pay for those.

I think it's a long ways away.

I look at sex robots like how I look at electric cars. We always had the technology to do it but there are too many external driving forces that won't allow it to flourish. It's going to take another Elon Musk to bring sex robots into the forefront and there's WAY TOO MUCH societal stigma that comes with sex robots wherein it would probably, at the very least, take a very eccentric billionaire to kick it off.

Look at sex dolls, they've come a long way and are leaps and bounds beyond what they've ever been yet it's not really made much of a dent in society plus consider how long it took to get to where we are today (i.e. RealDoll).

You should have defined whether one wants it for themselves or just in general to see them produced and sold.

Personally I'm neutral to the production and selling, but I wouldn't want it for myself. If I need a vibrator, I don't need a machine imitating a whole body attached to it. None of those options really describes what my opinion is? I'm a woman and really I can take it or leave it... if robots existed and were reasonably priced I'd probably try one out, but I'm not chomping at the bit for it. I don't think sex robots would improve the world much because all they will really do is be a slightly better slightly more expensive and more hassle sex toy. I mean seriously what proportion of your mental energy goes into your sex toys? You're thinking about them for as long as you're using them, when you shop for them, ... and that's it.

I mean definitely I think sex robots would have some utility so I'm not going to say I don't want them because humans getting to have some utility in their consumer products is a good thing on principle. But also... definitely air fryers are a bigger deal to me. Oh yeah, air fryers for meal prep. And I don't really care that much about air fryers. You know what's better than air fryers? Cutlery with an iridescent finish, love me some of that. And you know what's better than rainbow cutlery? The Raven ZZ plant. And you know what's better than the Raven ZZ plant? vanta-fucking-black OMG I am literally gagging for the chance to paint a ceiling vanta black, I know that is a long way off in terms of availability but mmm mmm that is something I want so hard. The fact that all the people who bought up chest freezers and weights in the covid panic will be selling them a year after we're back to something more like normal and I'll have me a ridic cheap chest freezer and weights. Alright well my answer was in the minority, so I want to explain my stance a bit more.

I'm a woman and I think futuristic sex robots would be a good idea. I'm also a lesbian, so the idea that men wont be interested in me anymore is actually a positive. If it became mainstream enough I would imagine that men who simply want sex would not bother me anymore, and instead if a coworker or classmate tries to form a friendship with me, it might actually be for friendship instead of a convoluted plan to get into my pants.

Though maybe it wouldn't really change much, because free porn is just a click away and yet men will still harass random girls for nudes, pay for strippers, secret snapchat and onlyfans even though it's all stuff they can get for free. I think people still crave the intimacy and feeling connected to another human being and are willing to go out of their way to obtain it even if it's as small as having your name called out when you tip the cam-girl.

Even if the sex-bots look exactly like a real woman, you will know it's not. Men don't even like fake breasts on a real woman, so if that woman is by design 100% fake, I think that would turn a lot of people off, or at least not be their preference. For those who are givers and enjoy just pleasing people, I don't think this would satisfy this desire since it can't really "feel" pleasure, it can only at best, trick us into thinking that it can by preforming it well, and that's only if we can turn our brains off long enough to be tricked.

I think it could be good for people that have extreme fantasies though. It's a robot so it could look like whatever you want, and whoever you want. There's a female comedian who even bought one to look like herself. Furries, lolicons and those bad-dragon toys also come to mind. If you have a fetish that you can't really act on in real life, then getting a robot might be the best option for you. It could probably do things that a real body couldn't do as well like vibrate.

There are also people that already carry around their waifu body-pillows and sex dolls. It would be a lot less sad of a sight if their waifus could actually hold their hand and walk with them. Though maybe it would be a different kind of creepy to see a bunch of anime girls walking around in real life, I think it would make those people a lot happier.

I wonder if these sex-bots would be able to replace pornstars? The sex-work industry would be entirely shifted I imagine. In the video-game Detroit: Become Human they had basically a whore house full of sex bots, the selling point being that they can't get diseases and you can do whatever you want to them. Maybe couples could get them for their threesome fantasies.

I don't think people are going to stop having sex with real people because of sex-bots though. Chad will still get all the Stacies, and Stacy will still get Chad. People will still crush on their teachers, coworkers, etc. Not everyone will be able to buy a sex-bot. It's a lot easier to hide a small sex toy than a full on human-shaped sex toy from your roommates, parents, children, etc. People are so caught up in the fantasy of having a sex-bot that I think they are forgetting about how impractical it would be for a lot of people. The world isn't going to become a dystopia where nobody is having sex or reproducing anymore like how some people imagine it will become once we have advanced sex-bots. It's just a sex toy at the end of the day, we already have tons of sex toys on the market that people claim feels better than partnered sex, and they still form relationships and have sex.

I personally probably wouldn't ever get a sexbot unless I lived alone, it was affordable, and provided an experience that was actually worth it. It's essentially just a sex toy that looks like a person and (I imagine) can preform all the sex-acts a person could. I would still want a relationship for companionship, intimacy and love. I suppose I could cuddle and watch netflix with the robot but to me that just sounds kinda sad. It can't love me or care about me or miss me when I'm not around. It doesn't have real emotions, it's just an imitation of real human behavior. It would be cool if it could also double as a maid though.

tldr; Sex-bots are a good idea because it might appease the incels and maybe that will make them stop creeping on random girls.

I voted the first option even though I don’t ever plan on getting one. People should have the freedom to do what they want with their own property, and it would likely help reduce sexual assault and rape too. It would likely help reduce the amount of creepy men (or at least the overall volume) women have to deal with.

Ironically enough, it might help desexualuze actual women as they are no longer looked to as a source of sexual support, but are seen as more as a human companion (which is why I don’t think women should oppose them either).

So this is already starting in the form of vr porn. When I got vr I naturally had to try it, but I quickly stopped. I feel that if it was done with a lot of intention and the involvement of inspired psychologists the medium could actually be used to cure porn addiction- maybe the only medium that could do it well. I say that because it is an unexamined space where a person can process feelings such as shame which create the addiction in the first place. However, the fact of what it is like- that you can have a per-recorded human being indulging any fantasy, while making faux eye-contact... It is facilitating the deepening of the negative pathologies associated with that particular addiction in a dramatic and traumatic way. I think we are approaching the point where more and more people will check out of society. As more and more is automated, the need for people to contribute to the economy will decrease and eventually some form of UBI will take place. Some people are just going to plug into VR or use some form of sex robots and never leave their homes.

As a society, I think we need to have more community events, much like what China does. Otherwise, the fate that Asimov highlighted is bound to happen.

Doesn't exactly take a genius to understand why men would want sex robots and women would both be relatively disinterested in having sex robots themselves while also not wanting men to have sex robots.

It's just that a number of unflattering facts about the way both sexes view and interact with each other have to be assumed that people are loathe to admit.

Namely that sex makes up a much bigger portion of the reason why men want women than vice versa, and because there being an acceptably realistic facsimile to sex with women would erode women's ability to use sex to bargain for all the things they want from men.
