Many female celebrities are known for overtly sexual music videos, the mimicking of sexual acts, revealing outfits and pictures and generally commodifying their bodies for entertainment purposes. A look at any currently relevant female rapper’s/musician’s instagram would serve as a sufficient example. But to name a few, Chloe Bailey, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, City Girls, Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, Lizzo or even Billie Eilish’s live performances come to mind.

This is mostly justified by saying that these artists are expressing their sexuality.

I understand that female sexuality has been repressed in the past and overly sexual displays can be a form of political protest in favor of sexual liberation. But the notion that expressing one’s individual sexuality has to involve the public is what I find confusing.

Imagining men posting videos on Instagram mimicking motions of sexual acts like pounding someone or masturbating, taking pictures of their behinds or their dick prints and being half naked in every music video just seems intrusive to me.

It’s not my intention to slut shame anyone mentioned here. I’m just interested in your definitions of sexual expression and your opinions on how much the public should be involved in anyone’s individual sexual expression. What are the limits and are they different for men and women?
