Personally if I was the dad I would feel the same way. Its undeniable that relationships work best when both partners bring a similar amount to the table. In OPs case we have an obese highschool educated single mother with a Engineering PhD with no kids... massive disparity of ambition and education is usually not a recipe for a happy marriage. And because I am fattist I wouldnt want my kid marrying someone who was obese.

Yeah thats gonna drop to 0 when she wants to have more kids. It'll stay 0 because she'll want to raise them by herself because hey they can afford it with daddy's salary. Then she'll retire 8 years earlier than him. Throughout the marriage she would have worked 5 years tops while the chump husband will be working all the way through the kids college years.

There isn't a disparity in ambition, I've grown my career options through experience, he's grown his through education.

I think scoring a beta with plenty of resources and 8 years younger is pretty ambitious for a 35 year old land whale single mother.

There seems to be very little introspection--as in, she may not think there's anything wrong with her--demonstrated by mainly talking about the potential father in law and fiance. The sort of smarts it takes to get a PhD in engineering is not the same sort of smarts it takes to realize a mistake like this. My bet is the guy is a socially awkward introvert who has had minimal/no success with other women. He may make six figures in the next few years, but he's probably quite poor right now. And he doesn't ever expect his prospects with women will get any better going forward.

She meant to say that she is lazy and insecure, lucky as HELL to be dating this guy, and just upset about being rejected by the father (who sees through the sappy relationship part.) She acts like she is posting because her boyfriend is distraught, but it's really her who is freaking out. The kid won't make it to the wedding if he has any sense left at all. I posted a fairly detailed post advocating tracking food consumption carefuly, and then titrating caloric consumption gradually each week until she reached a point where the weight loss was satisfactory.

To this I suggested low impact exercise, and strength training where possible, as nothing seems to effect body recomposition as strongly as strength training.

I also advocated eating whole foods, but if sweets were desired to eat them early in the day, where they would be more likely to used as energy.

All of this got downvoted I assume because it was advocating she take control over her weight.

I spend a year in Bosnia doing peace keeping stuff, in general you had to look pretty hard to find an overweight person under 50.

Why lots of low level physical activity, and apparently a year or so of food scarcity. Americans don't have fat genetics they make fat choices.

So I read the redditlog.

It is unclear HOW overweight this woman is.

She has a decent vocabulary, makes good money (really good for the location), seems mature, actively interested, and concerned for her partner's happiness (seeking to resolve issues with family).

As a student, the SO has not achieved his high status YET. True. But, the SO supposedly likes, and has bonded with, the son.

He may be able to attract hotter women.

He may potentially make a LOT more than her.

However, there are more factors in compatibility than this. (Also, in the south where they are, as a student of limited means and time, those may have been factors as well.)

Normally I agree about the single mother thing, BUT don't close yourself off. I met an amazing woman, who has a sweet and very smart young girl. We get along smashingly, and I can say I genuinely like and appreciate the daughter (even if she can be frustrating at times). It does upset me that the biological father doesn't even pay child support.

On the note of the old "Dating a single mother is like continuing someone else's saved game" I have thoughts. I am picking up the bill for the ex-douchebag's genetics to continue into the next generation, YEAH. But, the child is an amazing person, and value her as a friend. My GF has many unique qualities that are very hard to find, and more than make up for reservations I had. I may even marry her.

Otherwise, keep writing these TRP posts, as I understand and even agree with a fair chunk.
