Don't stop talking to her, beacause you now have a 10 who you can talk to freely without any pressure of outcome.

THIS! Also she might have some single friends. At the very least, getting used to talking to a 10 without being nervous is a HUGE help. Most high quality women do have boyfriends if they want to have them. That doesn't mean she couldn't upgrade though it depends on the seriousness etc.

:O I have never heard of it in that way before haha.
[–]Aquix 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
upgrade
Not really. Don't mix up high quality with plain sluttiness. She'd just break up with the guy if she saw things weren't up to her standard and be confident that she could find another guy. A high value girl wouldn't leave her bf for another guy.
[–]Rawrination 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Its less that she would leave for another guy, than if things went south shes bound to have a list of guys who are attracted to her. Its nearly inevitable with a high enough smv woman.
[–]Donmartini 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Plus her friends are probably 10s too
[–]Aquix 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
There's a chance she wouldn't entertain further discussions out of loyalty to her bf, though it's worth a shot I suppose.
[–]jawsboreslaws 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Discussions? dude just talk to her like before he knew she had a boyfriend, now there's no further it can go so he has the added security of having nothing to lose.
It just builds value/confidence talking to the people you want to be talking to regularly, it's almost the interpersonal version of pretending to be confident till it's second nature.
[–]Aquix 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Discussions? dude just talk to her like before...
But he did have conversations/discussions with her before
How did she not bring him up in all our conversations!
I was just pointing out a possible perspective the girl may have. I agree that it's beneficial for him to continue, but the girl might not let that happen because she now knows (for sure) that OP is romantically interested in her.
Perhaps you're different, but if I were in an exclusive relationship with my gf, I know she wouldn't be okay with me continuing a friendship with a chick that expressed obvious romantic interest in me. She'd expect and trust me to shut it down asap.

This sort of thinking shows why you don't have a girlfriend. A woman is more likely to date a friend of a friend than some compleat unknown random dude. It's basic social networking.

[–]hackel -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Why would I want to keep talking to someone who rejected me ?
This quite clearly implies the only reason he can think of to keep talking to her would be if she hadn't rejected him (which she didn't even do). What other conclusion can be drawn from that?

In other words become an orbiter.
[–]Alphahands 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Orbiter = AFC who sits around waiting for a chance even though it will never happen.
OP: A friend who talks to her for his own amusement, yet still has his own life outside of her.
[–]yamehameha 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The point is op was romantically attracted to the girl. He could say he is just doing it to learn or what not but it still doesn't change the fact that he is sexually charged for her but she won't let him have it. Even if he's going to stick around her to meet her friends he is still dependent on her to meet someone which is not an alpha trait. Why not simply try to meet new women on his own? That way he will learn how to actually attract girls all by himself. Also if the girl is of a certain type, she will make sure he doesn't hook up with her friends so he can keep orbiting hee and be a source of self esteem booster for her.
[–]983294841 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Fuck that alpha bullshit talk. He sees that woman every-times he goes to the gym. Sure, she is taken, but who gives a fuck. He can still be flirty/social with her and still approach other women. Mother fucker is not messaging her ''please respond'' at 1am. Also, she is the receptionist, that's a good contact to have in my book. I work with 3 women and they are all married. I still flirt/socialize with them. Women love that shit and it's good practice.
[–]Alphahands 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nobody said he must still try and gain relations through her. The point originally made is that he can still be friendly with her. No hostility is required, but being an orbiter isn't required either. He can just move on and keep chatting to her if he wants.

[–]fauxcrow 60 points61 points62 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Hi...woman here...just my 2c-
She absolutely 100% did not reject you! She chatted openly with you, gave you personal details about her life over several days. She could easily have avoided conversing with you. She obviously found you enjoyable enough to share quite a lot of info. You did great, and it sounds like she enjoyed talking to you.
She has a boyfriend. That's not rejection. Don't cut her off cold. She is still a nice woman, and presumably you enjoy her. Stay friendly and chat when you feel like it. Now she knows you are single and looking. Who knows, maybe her relationship won't last, maybe she has a friend who would like you...maybe a dozen other scenarios... but keep being a good guy and being personable because you never know what the future holds.
You built your confidence and you were a good guy...both great things.
Edit: again...that's 100% not rejection!
[–]13r4x7on 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is exactly what I was thinking. However, I won't say that it is 100% not rejection, simply because I don't know the person.
That being said, either her having a boyfriend just never came up in conversation, or she kept that from you because she was afraid you wouldn't talk to her anymore if you knew this.
I've wanted to say something to so many girls at my gym, but I feel emasculated there, and I could never bring myself to.
Props on you.
[–][deleted] 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
[–]fauxcrow 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Just be a genuine, confident, nice guy. Try to enjoy her as a person- not a girl you have any end goal with. You can do this. :)
[–]RedFace96 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Talk to her like you did before. A simple hey how's it going when you see her and then go from there.
[–]BlitzASsist 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
You've really done great so far, the rest are easy, next time you see her let her first salute you and then, answer with one or two words, with downward tonality and a friendly yet enigmatic/sneaky expression in your face. Stick to it for 2-3 days and then she'll probably seek chances to find and talk to you more and more often.
[–]fauxcrow 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
What?? Is this sarcasm?
Why not just be the genuine nice person that you are? Stand up tall and confident, smile genuinely, treat others with kindness and respect. Treat yourself with kindness and respect. Find things in life that make you feel passionate and engaged and discuss them. ...no need to put on any false tone...you were doing just perfectly being yourself. Don't let this shake your confidence. :)
[–]BlitzASsist 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No sarcasm, nobody is shaking his confidence. It was just a small tip. No offense but you literally told him was to rely on luck or on some kind of fate. + There's no need for him to wear any masks. The purpose behind it is pretty clear.
[–]fauxcrow 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't recall saying anything about luck or fate ...or anything you say here. I guess you are free to interpret it that way, but that's not on me.

[–]andrewgore96 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
I absolutely know what you mean when you look at someone and go WOW! I've been in Spain the past few days with a friend and we stopped at an American Diner in the evening for food and the waitress was literally the best looking girl I've seen, period. Like ever. Anywhere on earth. She was flawless.
It might make you feel a little better knowing that I could do nothing about it. She was Spanish, I don't speak a word of it and she understood no English. If language wasn't a barrier at that moment, I wouldn't of even hesitated.
For whatever reason, despite my literal inability to do anything about how I felt towards her, I feel an immense amount of regret towards not doing anything.
Regardless, this is about you and like I said prior I tip my imaginary hat to you. It sucks she was in a relationship but as Mark Manson said, treat any rejection as if it was a gift.
She may have been a gift from God to you in your eyes but maybe there was something about her, that you didn't know about, that you despised immensely. Maybe you weren't as compatible as you thought.
Keep going bro. That's the point of this seduction stuff, to get you the best and most rewarding relationships, and if things don't work out straight away, treat it as a gift and keep plugging away. You'll get there. Deuces.
Edit: punctuation.

[–]JefemanG 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Keep talking to her and being her friend, bro. Just make sure, since she now knows you like her, to not let her dick you around. Don't show that it hurt or that you still think of her as a potential dating material. Just be her friend and nothing more. Who knows, down the line she could hook you up with her 9.5 friend or maybe she becomes single and wants to give you a shot. Got nothing to lose so long as you don't let her control you now.
Be her friend and talk to her, but do NOT let yourself get in to the "friendzone". You feel?
[–]TheStumblingWolf 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
When you have a certain goal in mind with everything you do (girlfriend) you'll get disappointed because life often doesn't lead you in the direction you want. I try to not set my mind on a particular thing and just let opportunities come to me with no expectations.
[–]Drifts 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
exact same thing happened to me.
I kept being very friendly with her.
Eventually she broke up with her bf
and then she became my gf.
we broke up eventually, and i was crushed for a long time. I manned up and grew as a person.
now she's one of my closest lifelong best friends.
i would have missed out on all of that if i had just stopped talking to her.
[–]Crailberry 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Now you just need to act like it didn't affect you in the slightest. Still say hey or bye to her when you come into the gym/leave. Get friendly with another woman at the gym and start talking to that one more. If you do that, I can almost guarantee you'll get at least SOME sort of reaction from the receptionist girl you asked out. If you can do that, you'll be displaying MAD confidence.

He doesn't feel it's worth exerting energy towards a girl he doesn't see an opportunity with. He gave it a shot and now he wants to try for other chicks instead.
At least, that's where I hope he's coming from. It'd be silly to avoid her out of the desire to avoid awkwardness.
[–]Llaine 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If there's enough for regular small talk, and some commonality to generate interest, then there's no reason to ignore someone.
Still gotta walk past her. Just gonna look like a thirsty dude that wanted a fuck.
[–]rEvolutionTU -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The trick is that all that invested energy is wasted if you just cut contact like that. To stick with the nomenclature it doesn't take much energy to maintain a casual relationship and it can open up all kinds of doors.
A year or so after I started out or so I began friend zoning the vast majority of women I ended up meeting and the results got crazy rather fast, mostly because every established relationship opens you ten potential relationships with people that are already way closer to what you're looking for than a random person.
[–]Aquix 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I presumed this was a rare case - where he approached someone he'd probably be able to see regularly (since she's the receptionist at his gym). Most of our approaches are ideally cold approaches with strangers, to avoid shitting where we eat.
Though I have done the exact same thing as OP in the past.. With the exception that I did maintain a friendly relationship with said girl. It was pleasant but didn't extend to anything beneficial beyond a friendly smile/conversation when I entered/left the gym.
I always attempt to develop a relationship with the people I approach, even if I get shut down. I have opened up other doors by becoming friends with girls who were taken - in fact I met my previous gf indirectly in this way. Still, with some girls, based on how the interaction went, I can tell whether she'd be open to being friends or not. Perhaps OP sensed that disapproval upon asking her out.
[–]rockandahappyplace 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Honestly in wouldn't look at it as a rejection. If she has a boyfriend.. it's a normal, healthy, albeit frustrating way to have her decline.
The fact that she didn't mention it is actually a good thing in some ways as well.
[–]TonyDAbsolute 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
As long as you don't become obsessive and weird around her, she respects you now. The "I have a boyfriend" line is usually a knee jerk. She will be watching you closely now for alpha male behaviour. Let her see you with another pretty girl, and you're in. She'll give you a second chance. Unless she actually has a bf, which she probably does.
Your best bet is to not care. Go meet more women.
[–]Fireflyserenity22 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She doesn't respect you. She was doing her job by talking to you. Congratulations, you approached a woman who was socially and financially obligated to interact with you and you got shot down. She's not watching you because she told you she is not interested and will not give you a second chance because she is a 10 and has a boyfriend because she is a 10. She doesn't give a shit about how alpha you are because you're hitting on the one woman who has to interact with you because it's her job and you put her in a very uncomfortable situation. Talk to all the pretty girls you like. She will give zero shits.
Here's some real advice: Talk to ANY other woman who doesn't work there. The ones that work there are obligated to be nice to you. Wrangling someone who has to talk to you or else they lose their job is a beta and a pussy move.
Don't be delusional. She's there because she works there and she has a boyfriend. Move on. To women that aren't obligated to talk to you!

Good work. And about the rejection, it wasn't about you, it was about her boyfriend. Things don't always match in the real world and it has nothing to do with you, it's just chance. Don't think about it, it's just how things are. Be confident about yourself and your ability to ask a gorgeous woman out on a date.
[–]jetsetter883 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I learned from girls to lie and say "I have a girlfriend" while I'm working. I'm a bartender and it happens alot, so telling someone you're taken makes it super easy.
I'd be willing to bet she's single. I'd keep talking to her on a very chill level (still less tho) but not ask her out again or anything. For all you know, she said no cuz she's so used to doing it but also wanting to focus on her priorities. Doesn't mean you wouldn't become one...
"Go for the 10, it's better for the soul."

[–]Silly_Randy 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah i don't think you should stop talking to her. Don't completely friendzone her either. Keep it fun and casual. And get her out.
You: Oh what you doing Saturday?
HB: Oh nothing much
You: Come with me to the mall, i need advice getting a gift.
Then she'll ask for who and you can just throw it off, but give off vibes that its another girl. Then you have a date sorted even thought it isn't. With this method you can take her to the mall, shop around, go to lingerie shops, jewellery shops, perfume etc etc
Think of all the exciting and flirty things you can do. Then go get ice cream or coffee and chill.
Two things will happen. A) After showcasing what a fun dude you are she will develop feelings for you (whether she has a boyf or not) or B) You will be that fun friend (possible future boyf) who she will introduce you to other hot chicks or be your wing woman.

Sometimes for girls it's hard to bring up a bf without it being awkward or sounding like a bitch. Personally, for me it's easier to let it come about naturally. I've done the whole direct thing off the bat and some guys are like "whoah, I'm not asking you out." When all I was trying to do was be honest so he doesn't waste his time. Then I get labeled the bitch for trying to be considerate :)

The fact that you refer to them by numbers is probably the reason you're single and might continue to be...your mom and sister are like, 6 and 4? Douche baggery attitude there...
Don't stop talking to her either...If she's hot she's sure to have hot friends and maybe someone you might think is another 10
Talking to her and then other after she tells you she has a bf will also give you a bad reputation if she tells other people you stopped talking to her after she revealed that

I never got what's so terrible about the number system. Would it have been any more personal had he written that he asked out an extremely attractive girl? All you're doing by using those numbers is being more precise about how attractive the person in question is to you. It's not like he's substituting that number for her name in every day interactions.

Then I wouldn't take any more or any less offense than if she had simply called me an ugly cunt instead. Well, maybe a little bit more or a little bit less since that's not quite as precise. But if you're reducing people to their attractiveness level to their faces you are a douchebag, either way, whether you use numbers or words. But he wasn't approaching her like "Hey there, 10 from the gym"
Using certain terms to refer to an absent third party is simply a linguistic convention. That doesn't necessarily mean that that term is all that person is to you or all that person should generally be seen as in your opinion. It just communicates how that person is relevant in the context you're talking about them.

Yes,its true no matter how you cut it utility my point is one is worse than the other. While saying she's hot or fine or gorgeous or beautiful sounds much better than she's a 10. That's like being at a farm about to pick the cow they're gonna slaughter for your birthday and you're like give me number 4

If I were you I'd keep talking to her. Hot smart girls can get you into some pretty advantageous social situations even if you're not dating.

a 10
lol

Are there any girls these days, whether they be 5s, 6s, 10s, 11s.. who aren't getting their Master's with 3 jobs on the side and this, that, and the other thing?
I'm Aspergian and learning challenged.. working the pizza oven may be the best I can do. And I'm in my 30s. I mean, WTF? How am I supposed to think about women when not only 99% of them are high achievers with no spare time, they only want high quality ambitious guys? It really brings out a lot of bitterness.. I cannot see the appeal of such an insanely selfish creature who accepts nothing but high status guys. (What's to like in that?)
[–]RockyLeal -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yeah how dare she like good stuff better than lame stuff.
[–]Aeon199 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you're agreeing with my point, then apparently you are a fan of this:
Shallowness, greed, pride, sky-high standards, exclusivity, hypergamy, selfishness.
Makes no sense. Who wants that shit, honestly?
[–]hackel -5 points-4 points-3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you want a woman who is "smart and educated," maybe start by not calling them "girls."
Also, you didn't get "rejected." What is your definition of success, her immediately dumping and/or being unfaithful to her boyfriend? That is completely unreasonable. The fact that now you're going to stop talking to her like a child throwing a temper tantrum demonstrates that you don't deserve someone like that.

Keep going for the 10s, good job! :)
Could you go back and ask her if she would be your wing woman?
Tell her that you honestly haven’t had more than a gf and that you are a bit 'rusty', but that you generally is a good guy worthy of love and that having a female friend on your side might help on the social proof part :) She will understand.
Having a 10 on your side is nice and it can open all sorts of doors. Tell her that she is free to bring her bf along so she can see that you are not after her, but a gf that wants you. Maybe you even could get her bf to give you some pro tips; After all he was the one who got the 10 :)
The possibilities are endless and you have a great chance to get something great here.
Hey, maybe she will hook you up with her super hot model friends ;) Best of luck :)

Being confident enough to show your own vulnerabilities is something that many women find incredibly hot. It shows maturity, insight about one's self and It shows that you are a 'full' human being with empathy.
Empathy is from an evolutionary point of view a big plus because it increases the chances of her offspring’s survival in case she would die. Heh, go science! :P
