as a girl, if i’m texting someone i’m interested in or who i care about, i’ll probably be disappointed if i’m left on read. it’s all in the situation though, someone could be a dry texter, the conversation is dead, etc. my reaction differs based on the person as well. just my two cents

The meaning of being left on read changes with the context.

Were things getting hot and heavy and someone dips without warning?

Is there a big investment gap between the two people? Like she's way too into him or the other way around?

Was it a natural ending point of a conversation?

Do they reinitiate? If so, how long does it take and what do they say?

Ideally you just shouldn't care. When texting matters too much to you, you're not spending enough time with real women (easier said than done in current times). And if you find yourself caring about being left on read, either someone is playing games and you should back off, you're getting one-itis and you should back off, or you're lonely and depressed and you should work on you first.

Generally speaking, girls won't care about being left on read unless they're way into you and they're getting insecure, either because they already are, or because you're making them jump through hoops, and overgaming them like a girl who plays way too hard to get.

Honestly, I don't think that being left on read is as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Personally, I feel you should be able to read a message and reply at a time when it's convenient for you, and not feel pressured to immediately reply just because your messaging platform has communicated that you've seen the message. The less people care about this, the more fluid your online conversations can be. My personal opinion anyway.

It depends, obviously. If I’m emotionally invested in him, then being left on read can sting a bit and can hurt if I over analyze. I personally don’t mind sending another text depending on the circumstances (the “double-text”). I understand that people get busy and forget about messages, because I do too if a text comes in while I’m in the middle of something and can’t text back right away. To me, being ghosting becomes exhausting when it’s obvious I’m the one doing all the chasing - always starting the conversations, initiating plans, etc. I prefer a balance of desire from both him and me.

Just happened to me.

Matched with super attractive girl on Tinder. She was really close, and the quick chat went really well. Basically, she asked how tall I am, and well... being 6'4 has it's upsides.

Then, I got busy for the evening. Didn't reply also the next day.

And then I got hit by "just like the other guys".

I sent a gif that said "What it do babe?"

It sucks tbh. I think it's just more courteous to end conversations rather than leave someone on read. Any guy I talk to I try to be conscious of ending conversations rather than leaving someone hanging. And hope I am extended the same courtesy

A lot of comments here say that women have a lot of men on the hook. I don't think it has anything to do with gender. There are assholes on both sides.

I have two reactions if a guy does this- if he was making an effort to have a conversation, I assume it's a communication problem and I tell him that he can tell me he is busy and won't be able to text because I am expecting a response. If there is absolutely no effort to communicate then I just forget about it. And don't make an effort with him again.

Most of the times I assume good intent and think that the person might not know that leaving me on read is making me feel bad, so being honest helps. But if someone is specifically uninterested or even behaving badly, I let it pass.

I have been guilty of it too but in my case it wasn't with the intent to play games or talk the 500 other guys the comment section assumes I have but legitimately being distracted by something or just not sure of what to say next. I am now just honest and hope that the guy would respect that.

Honestly, it's a choice- you can be mean and play games or you can try to be nicer and just be honest. And that works both ways. You ditch the player and forgive the person trying to make an effort.

If in a relationship, I don’t really care if you leave me on read unless I asked a question/there was an argument/something that prompted a response.

If I’m interested in you, I’ll likely be a little upset. However most of the time I understand some people aren’t interested or the conversation was dying.

As a girl being left on seen/read can be really frustrating because it’s a clear sign that the person isn’t excited enough to reply or continue the conversation, sure we give benefit of the doubt that they maybe busy or tired or thought they replied but didn’t or any other genuine reason but it keeps playing in your head until they reply. It’s like we all have these personal devices that we carry everywhere and scroll through all the time so how did someone still not reply despite reading your text?

Depends on how much she's into you. Usually girls have multiple guys that are dying to get their attention so if she's not that into you she'll just text someone else.

Hell even girls that you would give a 4 or 5 out of 10 have multiple guys they're texting (or who are texting them) depending on their personality.

If its for a couple hours its all cool. Sometimes you accidentally open a message when you first get it and are in the middle of something, don't have time to reply, etc..... If its a chronic thing or its happening every time I send a message then I just assume they aren't interested. If you were thinking about me then you would reply is how I take it.

It honestly pisses me off in some cases, but others it doesn't really phase me. The difference is what I said.

If it's something I would normally expect someone to respond to like a question, or saying hi or good morning, then I get pissed when they leave me on read.

However, when I only say something like "that's cool" or "haha, yeah", something short like that, I don't care because I know that was on my end.

I leave guys on read for days at a time sometimes, it probably hurts a little but I usually get a quick response when I decide to pick it back up. I also do that to my friends though it’s not personal I just will go days without talking sometimes so they probably realize it’s not personal unless I make a point to not talk to them much at all.

About a month ago I left this one girl on read.

We work together and against my better judgement I went for it. As soon as I started being proactive her incessant lewd flirting came to a stop. Our texting went from flirtatious to boring and I left her on read. I didn't do this out of malice, I just though this was her nice way of showing she wasn't interested. She was not happy though.

She texted me a couple days later "Why the fuck did you leave me on read? I'm mad at you" and proceeded to give me the silent treatment at work. It was interesting to see her behavior change so much just because I left her on read.

I don’t care at all. If a person doesn’t reply to me when it would be the appropriate thing to do it lets me know I’m not high on their priorities and I adjust my expectations and effort. If it’s something someone does every now and then and it’s with things that don’t require a quick response then that’s fine. I would rather have people in my life that have actual shit to do and aren’t just glued to their phones. If I’m really tired I often wait until morning to respond to messages because I would rather give a thoughtful response than just brush something off until I go to bed. I’m also extremely busy in general so I’m not always able to reply to people right away. I’ve dated people who couldn’t handle that and I broke up with them. If I really need a response then I’ll call anyway.

We all need to realize that girls inherently do not care about us as individuals, unless we provide something to them. By virtue of being left on read, it's over.

Don't hide your feelings either. Let yourself sink into how you're feeling, digest it, write about it, whatever. Be honest to yourself.

Then move on. Forget her. Even if she texts you back. Reply her like you would anyone else. No flirty texts. Don't initiate anything.

If she wasted your time, she's not for you.

If you are interested in her and she is highly attractive, I find it best to not respond until you have FULLY THOUGHT OUT YOUR RESPONSE....even if it takes an entire day. You want to condition her to know that when she gets a message from you, it holds high value. So that means, instead of telling her your day was "fine", respond with a picture that shows you doing something exciting or have something extraordinary to share or you asking her to join you somewhere or for a date. Do not compliment her.
