This guy is a genius

Maybe not a genius, but the first four steps here describe my separation (still living under the same roof with kids) PERFECTLY. We are on step four. Whether it will go to steps 5, 6 and 7, I do not know.

Here are the steps, after a wife demands divorce, if the husband wants to reconcile.

Step 1. You stop making things worse. Stop begging, pleading, using logic, yelling, getting too emotional, use guilt trips. Stop that! Calm down. Chill out. Be normal and friendly and around her. Make yourself somewhat appealing. (All that begging etc is completely unattractive and frankly unmanly.)

Step 2. Her determination to get out fades. Yup, this has been happening. Not in her words but in her deeds. As the thing says, If you're still living at home, this might mean things start to feel a little closer to normal. Check. You and your wife aren't at each other's throats. Check. The chaotic, emotionally-driven conversations about the end of the marriage become less frequent. Check.

Step 3. You start making things better. You implement small changes in yourself. You start to live up to the man you want to be as a husband, even if your wife isn't yet ready to see those changes.

Step 4. She tests your changes & You stay consistent. This is where we are now. She is definitely testing me. My job is not to take the bait if she picks a fight. Just let it go. Let it Go. This is my mantra. Let it Go. Another test: asking me to take care of stuff around the house that she feels has been neglected. AND I AM DOING IT. "I've got it. Don't worry. I'm on top of it." And then FOLLOW THROUGH.

Since we are at Step 4, I won't fill in Steps 5, 6 and 7. Maybe we'll get there, and maybe we won't. Maybe she will follow through on her claim that she's leaving, and maybe she won't. I'll keep everyone posted.
