I've been having issues with my fiance regarding comments and gaslighting (I think).

By nature I am a night owl and if I don't monitor my sleeping patterns I tend to become nearly completely nocturnal (usually waking up at 2pm-3pm but going to sleep at like 6am-8am). This seems to bother my fiance sometimes because on top of the different sleeping patterns we also have a three hour time difference. The problem is that he makes comments about my sleeping pattern which upsets me deeply as I had lots of issues regarding sleeping in while I lived with my parents.

I have explained multiple times that it bothers me when he makes comments because it makes me feel like a child, and it reminds me of living with them (no pleasant memories whatsoever).

We literally just had a fight about this, it is currently 4am where I am, he woke up for work and texted me, I answered and we ended up calling. This lead to him commenting on my sleeping yet again, then gaslighting me when I told him it hurt me.

I am unsure if it is gaslighting, what basically happened was; I explained that when he says stuff like that it makes me want to ignore his messages for fear of being hurt or feeling put down because of something so small like a sleeping pattern and he said ( in an annoyed almost snarky tone) to "not message him then."

This hurt even more because it felt like he literally did not register anything I actually said and just focused on the one thing that would directly affect him. Again, I am unsure if this is a type of gaslighting but it did make me really upset with him, which I expressed in a slightly raised tone. He hung up on me because he said he "couldn't handle being yelled at this morning". Which is true, he does have problems when yelling, so we usually keep our voices controlled, the problem with that is I unconsciously raise my voice when I talk (especially when emotions are involved) and this was one of those instances where I slightly raised it to express my emotions.

I try my absolute best to control the volume of my voice but sometimes I feel like there isn't another way to get my thoughts across because he isn't listening. He has told me that he would listen if I spoke in a normal tone but my normal tone didn't get the message across the first few hundred times.

I don't know how to feel about this, I'm extremely overwhelmed and I was hoping to get some insight from the women in this group. I don't know what to do anymore, it seems like he doesn't understand how much this affects me and anything I say goes in one ear and out the other.

Just a side note, he knows I'm posting this, and he might read the comments.

EDIT: My sleeping pattern isn't always like this, I did have a normal sleeping schedule (10pm-11pm and waking up at 9am-10am) but this week was hectic and I didn't pay attention to it as much so it reverted back.

I told him about my posting this because I want him to read the comments and hopefully see these problems we're having in a new light.

Thank you for all the replies <3 I have read them all and will be talking a break (as someone suggested) to think about this.
