Get a motorcycle, you will meet others like you. I passed a guy riding the opposite way on some back roads taking the long way to town. Stopped at the grocery store to get a couple little things, come out and the same guy was sitting by my bike. We started talking, realized we were both the same age, same interests, we swapped numbers and got a new buddy to ride with. Motorcycle is just my example, but any hobby guys are into what they love, they will talk to anyone about it and meeting new people who share their interests.

Making friends feels so hard these days. I've had "don't be creepy" beaten into me so hard since childhood that even asking a classmate if they might be interested in hanging out outside of school makes me feel like a creep. I feel like I have no clue how to establish an emotional connection with anyone anymore. I just fake it as best as I can, and hope something eventually comes from that.

I can't complain too much. I've figured my life out in a lot of ways over the past few years. But I know that being honest about my interest in being closer with people doesn't work, and comes off as creepy. But covering up my interest in real connections just leaves me feeling disconnected. I genuinely wonder if I'm just high functioning autistic or something. Forming a genuine emotional connection just doesn't seem to be a skill I have, despite working to acquire it.

Who do men rely on? The people around them. When I look at the men in my family they need their wives and family to help them in areas they arent strong in. My dad and brothers are physically strong but my mom is the glue. She is emotionally capable and has gone through hell but keeps going because that's what women do. Women and men are pillars of strength. Both bring qualities to the team that the other lacks.

I am a single income earner, father of two. I struggle with chronic depression and anxiety and this in no way is a reflection of me or my peers.

You're isolated because you've isolated yourself. Because you've romanticised this whole notion that what you do is some how exceptional. What because your wife left you? Throw a rock and you'll hit someone who's spouse left them and then another who's partner died. You're kids look up to you but you don't feel like you have your shit together? Open up and your coworker will tell you about the same shit she deals with every day with her daughter.

It's VERY important that you understand what you're going through is not unique because this will remove the barriers you've put up between yourself and the help you might desperately need.

I rely on my wife, on my co-workers, on my mother, on my friends. Yes "men need friends" because men are human and humans need friends. No one is going to read this and think oh I'd better buy that guy down the hall a coffee and see if he wants to hang out because HeS aN IsOlaTeD PilLaR of sTreNGth.

Make connections because no one will do it for you. If you need help don't say "no, I can't let on that I'm feeling weak". Fucking ask for it you knobhead.

You are not alone, you are not unique, and that means everyone understands you. Reach out and you'll be amazed at how many people reach back.
