Generally women's complaints are heard, responded to, if not addressed with action, (it is fashionable to agree with the premise of women's issues) while men and men's issues (this sub can attest) are ridiculed and ignored despite glaring examples of men and boys falling behind and living difficult and lonely lives.

Some of these drift away from "privileges" but somewhere in there is a root. We make steps in this society (writing from the U.S.) to help women when they fall behind or feel victimized by law and culture. When men suffer hardly anything is changed and worse the fact they we suffer is denied outright.

Well, just a quick look around yeah and the answer is an absolute yes. Here are some examples: - homeless women are helped more than homeless men - DV male victims are laughed at and barely supported while DV female victims are fully supported and have a bunch of phone numbers they can give a call. - women with mental illness are always supported and believed and they can always blame their mental illness when they have a bad behaviour but if men have a mental illness,they are ridiculed, told to man up and if they have an attitude because of their mental illness, they are told to man up - in work places women are allowed to ridicule and make fun of men but if a man does that to a woman, he gets a disciplinary or even sacked. Happened to me too when a female coworker made fun of men and I striked back in similar fashion. There are so many more examples put there but yeah, take a good look around you and the short answer is yes: female privilege exists.

Of course there are. In fact, I might as well say that women are more privileged than men in western democracies, especially since female privileges typically come in the form of legal rights which are encoded in law or enforced by courts. I fail to think of any that demonstrate the opposite.

For example:

Women don’t have to sign an agreement that they’ll go fight and die in a war just so that they can get a driver’s license or qualify for federal aid. Ironically, North Korea, a third-world dictatorship, is the only country where women aren’t immune to conscription.
A woman can opt out of parenthood in complete disregard to the wishes of the father.
In India, Israel, Nepal, the UK and Singapore, women cannot be legally charged for rape. The same thing applied in the US up until 2013, but the new definition of rape in the US still clearly tries to exclude male victims.
In Germany, women cannot be legally charged for indecent exposure.
A woman can rape a man or steal his sperm and then sue him for child support. Check Hermesmann v Seyer.
And the most well known and powerful of them all; a woman can cost a man his job, education, relationships, drivers license, home, and in some cases his life by simply accusing him of raping her at little to no risk for herself. Even if the accusation is proven to be a lie, the damage will already have been done and the man will become a pariah for the rest of his life while the woman can get away scot-free most of the time.

(Not rape related, but still a false accusation) And let’s be real. The only reason Johnny Depp was able to get himself out of the mess is because he’s rich and the only reason Amber Heard didn’t lose sooner is because she’s a woman. Had it been an average man, he’d be fucked.

There also exist privileges which are granted by public figures.

There exist multiple women’s-only safety hotlines and shelters, but none for men. The second one isn’t entirely true, but the only hotlines and shelters for men are so far and few in-between, that they’re impossible to find with a lot of them being shut down due to lack of funding or pressure from feminists.
Women can get men banned in certain places on college campuses.
A woman can shamelessly resort to physical violence against a man, even in public without having to worry about getting an trouble for it since people seem to think the man did something to deserve it. Any resistance from the man would’ve made him the bad guy in the eyes of the public. Just look at all these videos where it plays out.
A man can’t show his emotions without being looked down on and-/or having them used against him.

Now these are just a few examples I have at the back of my head. I could go on, but here’s a video which explains more.

For me, the biggest privilege that women enjoy is as follows: Women have a large, internationally recognised, socially approved, and powerful movement fighting for them (feminism). Men have no such equivalent movement, even though men face a lot of problems as well.

Absolutely. As a trans man I can verify. Here's what I lost after I transitioned to male:

- I get sexually violated more now and people care less

- I get harassed more

- People are less nice to me, except when they think I'm being cute for some reason

- Etc.

As a woman and a mother of a man, I would have to say yes. There are advantages and disadvantages. Being a woman helps my sales career and has gotten me out of many traffic tickets and other quandaries, as well as small things like backstage passes, free stuff, help from men, etc. I try not to take advantage of these things. Edit: because I treat men as I would want a woman to treat my son.

Privilege has got to be the worst word that could have been chosen to describe this thing we’ve all been talking about for years while still being close enough to right to stick.

The correct word would be benefits. Are there benefits to being a women? Yes. Are there benefits to being a man? Yes. Are there benefits to having a certain skin color? Yes.

Obviously, all these yes’s are situational and aren’t universally true for everyone. One benefit to being a man is you get sexually harassed way less often. However, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t men that are sexually harassed frequently. One benefit to being a woman is that you are not perceived as a threat constantly. That doesn’t mean there aren’t women who are perceived as threats. It’s a trend, not a hard and fast rule.

Being rewarded for not going against the status quo and being the recipient of institutional privilege are not the same thing. Systems like the draft and chivalry may seem to favor women at first, but upon closer examination, they simply reinforce the sexist institutions that keep men and women from true equality (also called “benevolent sexism”). The existence of a reward is not proof of privilege. The concept of female privilege requires looking at a social outcome and deciding that it favors women, regardless of who had the power to make that decision or on what grounds the decision was made. The key to arguing for “female privilege” is ignoring the actual beliefs about gender that inform the outcome.

Yes it does exist. A restaurant looking to hire wait staff, they’ll choose females over males. Someone’s looking for a babysitter for their 4 year old kid, you get the job if you’re a girl, not a guy. Some of the policies that some Australia, New Zealand and British airlines had, you can sit next to an unaccompanied child, but only if you’re female. If you’re a guy, you got told to swap seats with a female so she can sit in the seat you paid for next to a child. Why? Because apparently “guys are pedophiles, but not women”.

Absolutely, look at how women go to jail for less time for committing the same crime as men. In my local police department, if you lie about being a victim of a crime, even on the disposition that says “it’s a class A misdemeanor to lie on this form” stating that they’re a victim of either rape or domestic violence, they won’t get in trouble. Meanwhile the man will always be arrested, especially if he damages his own property during a domestic dispute or domestic violence call. In ny state, pretty much men are going to jail if they’re accused of domestic violence.

Another thing of female privilege is that they don’t have to get drafted even though men do. Women want equal combat roles, but not equal duty to fulfill those roles via draft.

Another thing is genital mutilation, females are protected under the law from circumcision. Meanwhile men aren’t. And if men complain about their genital mutilation, we get treated like absolute shit for even mentioning that we were harmed by it.

The point is that female privilege comes from the idea that females are weak and need to be protected and only men can be the protector. Or that females are carers and are made to take care of the kids (hence that kids of divorced parents almost always end up with the mom). So some females take that idea and abuse it in their advantage making it female privilege.

Yes it does. I’ve seen courts going easy on women only because of their gender. I’m from India and I can give a lot of cases where delivery boys or security of residential areas were abused verbally and physically by women. The issue trends in Twitter; people are angry; arrests are made; after a few days, these women get bail and the incident is forgotten after that. No punishment and no accountability. Women are favoured in many jobs now. There is a special reservation for women in government services in my country. Sometimes as much as 87 percent of posts in a service are occupied by women. Women have special police stations and courts. Men don’t. Men’s mental health problems are not worthy of consideration in my country. In 2021, 75 percent of those who committed suicide were men. No government talked about this. People believe you even when you make a false allegation. I’m shocked to see many women openly supporting Amber Heard even after the trial.

Hitting quotas are amended to compensate for the lack of women in certain jobs. This has extended to EMS jobs (fire, public safety, medical), tech, chefs, pilots, board members, and even in the military. A dangerous move in EMS and the military.

Women are awarded more academic scholarships than men, yet you only hear how more women need funding in underrepresented fields like STEM/STEAM -- areas that are typically male oriented. They want more funding to get into areas men occupy, yet the same is rarely given when the genders are flipped 🤔🧐.

Women are given lesser sentences when having committed the same crime or can use the emotional card -- crying -- to leverage a lighter sentence.

Absolutely it does, just look at where the money goes if gender is ever involved: Which shelters get the most funding? Which gender get more abuse programs funded for them? Which cancer research gets the most funding? Which gender gets more gender-specific university grants? Which gender gets more gender-specific focus in job hiring? Etc.

Once you look at all of the answers to those questions, you'll know for certain that any claim a feminist makes to us 'not caring about women' is false, and that's regardless of whether the 'us' is the government, society, or even men.

Depends on what you mean by privilege. In the same way that being white male has certain privileges so does being a woman. For example, when shown a photo of a white male and a black male with tattoos most will assume the black male is the one who is a criminal. When shown a picture of a woman and a man and saying one is a child molester, most people will flag the male.

More concretely, most women can walk into a bar without money and have someone buy their drinks. A woman panhandling will often receive more sympathy than a man panhandling. Some social programs are also anecdotally more available to women than men, especially if the woman has kids. Again, this is anecdotal but single men with a kid seem to have more trouble getting access to those programs.

I'm also going to be that guy and say that one glaring advantage women have is the ability to find someone to take care of them. While there are kept men, I'd say 90+% of women can find some guy willing to take them in in exchange for cooking, companionship, sex...

There are also disadvantages to being a woman. As much as we all hate our family courts, women often bear certain burdens that men frequently don't as the result of divorce. Women also, make less over time, even when they don't leave the workforce for kids.

This is a very complicated topic. In certain areas yes, women are incredibly privelaged in comparison to men. In other places its the opposite. Thats part of the reason we don't advocate for the complete removal of the feminist movement. But there are a few things that women are almost always privelaged with. Mainly parental rights.

There’s even the one person who tries to shoehorn their own definition of privilege, and it’s very flawed. I understand why they locked the thread.

It was quite telling how embarrassing their answers were. And it’s against their narrative that society is a patriarchy where men and white people have all control, power, and privilege. They’d rather stay in their oppression Olympics game and sing lalalalala when men’s issues are brought up.

That one person with the definition came comically close to being right. She said well that means everyone can have privilege, which means no one has it. The former is right but not the latter. In an airplane a shorter person has the privilege of more free leg space. In dating tall men have a privilege, but less the case for tall women. Large people have a privilege in buying clothes and apparel, more materials is needed but the price is the same, so the smaller people subsidize. For college admissions at top colleges black people and Hispanic people have a privilege. For getting accepted into internships and jobs at top companies and in highly desired fields, they also have a privilege. Wind back the clock and white people had a privilege, and so these companies are trying to reach quotas, and to counterbalance the past, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a privilege that you have a 6x times higher likelihood of acceptance. White people have a privilege in that they are born to wealthier parents and who have attained a higher level of education. And all of these come with intersectionality. It means a person or a group of people can have both lack of privilege and access to privilege depending on the situation. And some privileges carry a greater weight, so one can think of weighted privilege as the weighted average of privilege, and some groups will come out on top with more privilege, like white women, wealthy tall white men, and attractive people. The latter gets probably the largest privilege of any single characteristic group. Perhaps billionaire trumps it.
