The main benefit to this will be that prostitutes have better, safer working conditions. The lowest class whores are basically at the mercy of crime rings now.

I think that you are being pretty generous with the benefits. People with anger issues have them for deeper reasons. Maybe trauma or hormonal imbalance. But I don't more sex would fix very many tempers. And STIs will still spread easily through casual sex.

Don't get me wrong though, prositution should be legal. People can make money and have fun without hurting others. Like weed, there doesn't have to be some great benefit to society to justify legalizing it. Just that there is no harm to society legalizing it.

it won't have the effects on every day men that you claim because, if Europe and Australia are any indication, it'll still be stigmatized. I think some men will go once or twice for the experience or for a bachelor party or something but only a small number will regularly avail themselves of those services. unscrupulous guys who are stuck in shitty marriages, guys with weird kinks, guys who just cannot manage to get laid any other way. I think it's a right they should have. and I think the sex workers have a right to the safety of a regulated, licensed brothel with security.

Legalizing prostitution was actually the first idea that brought me into feminism! I 100% agree it should be legal, but I think you're over estimating the benefits. As you have said, it is legal in most (all?) of Europe and many other first world countries. It hasn't changed the way marriages and relationships work there. Prostitution is still not the common way of getting laid, LTR relationships are. Furthermore, the type of men who get angry from not getting sex from women are the type of men who will still be angry they have to pay for it.

Dating is too much of a pain in the ass for me. I work a lot and due to my job, I don't get to meet a lot of women. I really want to be able to visit the lady of the night when I want to experience intimacy and not have to worry about losing my job and landing my ass in jail.

I've met women from countries where prostitution is completely legal, since these topics interest me, sometimes I'll ask them how it's different now being in the US.

They always give me the same reply, the US society is full of desperate men to levels they didn't know existed. Of course it happens in the US under the guise of escorting, but no one knows if the Craigslist or Backpage ad is a sting. Escorts on both have had to move to the dating section since they shut down the escort section. It's very popular in the US, especially in more conservative regions to excessively go after it.

The US is oddly more liberal regarding gays. If you asked most millenialls if gay prostitution should be legalized, they would say yes. Not for straight. Someone should carry out this study.

Should be legal, I totally agree. I think there are some men who would benefit - but mostly it's for the good of the sex workers that prostitution should be decriminalised. I'm from New Zealand and prostitution has been legal for many years and that just seems logical to me. There will always be some men who seek the company of prostitutes, and there will always be some women willing to provide that service...the women should be protected (as much as possible - but I'm not sure regulated brothels are the perfect answer to that) and the men shouldn't be arrested or shamed for wanting it.

That being said, I don't think it's something I would ever want to be totally mainstream as a career choice or the first choice for men who want some female company...that would be quite sad.

Prostitution should be decriminalized. I don't think there's anything at all wrong with paying for sexual services provided you treat your sex workers well, but at the end of the day IDGAF about clients. I care about sex workers and their safety.

I sorta don't expect to get any intelligent conversation on this here, but I'm not a fan of regulation. If you look into the way the legal brothels in Nevada operate, they're incredibly controlling and exploitive -- I'm a sex worker and I know a lot of sex workers and the general consensus is that the money and conditions are better if you just take the risk and work illegally.

Not a fan of condom laws -- they just put very poor and desperate workers in a place where they can still be coerced into working illegally, with all the dangers that entails. And mandatory testing is also a problem, especially if it's not free because a lot of people go in and out of sex work depending on how desperately poor they are, and I don't think those people should be criminalized. Clients who are concerned about their own health can take steps to protect themselves.

It won't solve the types of issues you mentioned, but it should be legal. I also think with it being legal, crimes like pimping and trafficking should get harsher penalties to attempt to deter people from being taken advantage of.

Some kinds of it should be made legal -- basically prostitution that doesn't involve pimps or trafficking. So your garden variety "independent" internet hooker really shouldn't be treated as a criminal (and really, for the most part law enforcement doesn't get very excited about them today anyway in the US at least unless there is a pimp or madam involved), but trafficking and pimping should remain illegal and be enforced against.

I don't think it will have the effect the OP thinks it will in terms of reducing the anger of men who tend to be angry, really. But I do think it would be safer for everyone involved, and also more honest -- our culture really doesn't have much of a problem with "private" independent escorts, but we do have a problem with trafficking and pimping, so let's focus on that and leave the other stuff more or less alone like we generally do today anyway.

If a man is that down on luck that he has to resort to prostitution, he might as well move somewhere that it's legal. I think legalizing it everywhere would just lead to catering to lazy men and encourage laziness. The average man doesn't need to be any lazier than he is now, just being honest.
