We actually had a similar situation in my office. A man had a picture of his fiance (wife now i think) in a bikini on his desk. It was pretty tame, you could only see from the waist up, wearing some big goofy sunglasses and waving to the camera. Some one went to HR and he was forced to remove the picture. There was even a big meeting to talk about sexual harassment we all had to attend. I used that time to point out several female workers who had pictures of beefy hunky half naked men in sexually provocative posses. To HRs credit they came down on these as well and had them removed.

First off, this is more than likely a prank that you found on the internet, not something that you actually saw, or even heard a story about.

Secondly, there is a difference between having teenage girls in bikinis and posters of a music star (regardless of taste).

Thirdly, if this were real, it is highly unprofessional. I would probably ask the employee to take it down (at least take it down a notch).

It's very unprofessional, but I've worked in an office where exactly what you described was allowed too. One of the people in my department had women in bikinis all over his cubicle.

For either gender, I think its tasteless.

I disagree. I've worked in offices that have had a "boob wall" (these were professional offices, or rather, the individuals within them were 'professionals').

Besides, as far as I can see, there is only one half-naked man picture there.

I don't agree with OP in this particular case. I've worked in an office where 50% of the desktop wallpapers/screensavers depicted a half-naked female model (the other 49% were concept cars), nobody ever mentioned that this was unprofessional. However, I personally think it is unprofessional regardless of what the companies policies are... Unless perhaps you work for a modeling agency?

Prank or not, we all know about the double standard. I knew a woman like this who worked in my mom's office growing up. Tons of little boy band stuff everywhere. If a man had that, he'd be called into human resources.

Some 20-25 years ago, Canadian National Railways was hit hard by a court judgment saying that they should no longer discriminate against hiring women for any trade.

So they started to appear in the operating department and the shops.

Every guy had pictures of naked women on his locker, but within the first week of the first girl that was hired, they all disappeared…

Not thanks to a company edict, no, the guys all removed their pictures voluntarly.

True story. . . we had an all female office of four women with one male, very young coworker. He told us he liked this model so we cut out a bunch of magazine pics of her with balloons over her head that said, "Oh, do you like my outfit" and, "Are you looking at me?" Stuff like that, not even sexual.

It was just something annoying we did to pick on the younger guy. The company was sold and we weren't told until the new owners showed up. They saw the photos on the guy's cubicle and threatened to fire him for "sexual harassment." We defended him and said he didn't do it, but the women in the office did. The poor kid was so pissed off. When we convinced them he had nothing to do with it, the owners just said, "Oh" and walked away. We didn't get disciplined and they didn't apologize to the guy.
