Crazy circumcision comment roundup.

I should have been doing this for a while, but may as well start now. I thought it would be a good idea to catalog the mentality and faulty logic of those who support routine circumcision. I'll be adding more comments as I come across them. I do a quick check of their comment history to make sure there not blatant trolls (as long as I see a few rational upvoted posts I assume they're real). Feel free to add to the thread with posts from here on reddit or from the comment sections on news sites.

I can't help but feel most redditor's issue with circumcision is the belief that they have small penises because of it.

yes. had that happen too. the doctor refused to circumcise my youngest when he was born. i simply requested a new doctor. i didn't want to listen to the first doctor's reasoning that it wasn't unhealthy, etc. i simply wanted my youngest not to be different than his older brother and father. my child, my choice.

Just do it. I see it as cosmetic surgery. He won't even remember it. Or much of anything from his early childhood, really.

women prefer cut. all of the porn I had ever been exposed to displayed cut penises. I saw a picture of an un-cut naked dude in an art museum when I was 17, and it was horrifying...everyone has 'odor issues' in their pants. I know my bf's would be worse if he weren't cut.

I saw a picture of an un-cut naked dude in an art museum when I was 17, and it was horrifying.

That's some hardcore misandry. Imagine the reaction to "men prefer women who's clitoris was mutilated at birth."

[–]Jorand 19 points20 points21 points 14 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Women who are catty cunts about preferring cut men are the same as stuck up superficial assholes who want women to cut their 'beef/ham curtains' off via labiaplasty.

Edit: I've hardly read/heard anyone say "ew girls should cut that shit off!" yet tons of ignorant bitches and pricks are wanting men to remove the biological equivalent. Makes me mad.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Why can't we give women breast implants at birth? I'm sick of dating flat girls. It's just a slight cosmetic procedure and they won't remember it.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh my god, babies with boobs. Worst fucking mental image of my life.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why don't you have a seat over there...

[–]speaker_for_the_dead 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

IG88 supports mens rights; you sir just made my day.

[–]SarahC 8 points9 points10 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ok, perhaps instead of the clitoral chopping... something more "acceptable" - and therefore closer to home?

"Meat curtains" - most women worry their flaps are too big.

I suggest using this angle of comparison in the future.

"Ewwwww... those fleshy wrinkled folds hold lots of sweat and smells! Get them chopped!"

I can clearly imagine the "My beautiful flower" response... then continuing with "foreskins are icky!" argument.

[–]die_katze 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I wouldnt define that as misandry, just a matter of personal taste that may or may not be true for each person. But I do think is a bad taste.

[–]knowless 6 points7 points8 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

if the preference is used to deride males in general, as in " no self respecting man would not slice off part of his penis to please me" then yes, misandry.

[–]die_katze 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I dont think we can extract all that from that phrase.

Also, happy cakeday

[–]knowless 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

warum?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Reddit birthday, it's your it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Unless you're five years old, a victim of rape by a man, or a committed lesbian, you shouldn't find penises "horrifying." Viewing the intact male penis with horror is not a normal reaction unless you've been socialized to believe all men's penises should be cut on at birth.

[–]die_katze -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are right, I didnt put such emphasis on the word "horrifying"

[–]Psionx0 19 points20 points21 points 14 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

The mother in that second comment disgusts me. In my professional opinion, she and her husband committed child abuse.

[–]Jorand 14 points15 points16 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

My child, my choice.

Gee why didn't they fucking tattoo "PROPERTY OF MR. & MRS. DIPSHITS" across his forehead as well while they were at it? I mean its not like he gets a say or anything right?

[–]kloo2yoo 9 points10 points11 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

she probably left out the "MR. &" part.

[–]Jorand 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, in my personal experience it was "MR." because he demanded I be 'like everyone else so I don't get laughed at in the locker room' and my mom trusted his opinion. If one doesn't stick up for him then they are both responsible.

Edit: Also I never even had to get naked in the locker room while I was in school. It was all in vain.

Also my mom generally supports the practice as well, so I was fucked from day 1.

[–]kloo2yoo 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

true. People often condemn others of their own gender into the same travesties that they were condemned to accept as 'normal'.

[–]firex726 7 points8 points9 points 14 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yea, children should not be treated as property.

Though it is interesting how parents will flip flop on that as it's convenient.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yea, children should not be treated as property.

That's way more deep and complex an issue than you just passed it off as...

[–]girlwriteswhat 6 points7 points8 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Children are persons. Little, developmentally incomplete persons, but persons nonetheless.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Again, lol, that's not doing it justice.

[–]AllNamesAreGone 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So, children aren't people? I'm not quite sure I understand you.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

you guys are just declaring children to have personhood, when in fact the legal and philosophical dealings with this are far more complex and debatable.

[–]royboh 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree. Infant and child personhood is definitely a legal grey area, and largely up to the interpretation of individual courts.

There are children who are tried as adults for crimes, and children who are not. Children are not treated as being able to make critical decisions by default. That precedent creates confusion in areas of consent and responsibility of guardians. Laws regarding minors' offenses and rights generally are not this subreddits strong suit if you ask me. But other areas like adult criminal law seem to be spot on most of the time.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 14 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

There's a whole subthread about circumcision with plenty of WTF comments under 'Reddit: what "WTF" things have you learned about other cultures/people due to the Internet' here.

Edit: "I've really don't understand the opposition to it, to be honest." +44 karma.

As a response to someone claiming medical benefits of circumcision: "Go look up "fan death" further up the page. The habit of cutting part of your dick off is the US equivalent to turning off your fan at night in South Korea" -3 karma

"Also, how do you know that sex is better if you are uncircumcised? There is no one in the world who would be able to accurately compare the two sensations. It's all speculation, and again, it goes back to the sexual satisfaction of an infant" +1 karma.

"You are looking at it as reckless genital cutting, and its not" +0 karma.

"I've had many lengthy discussions over this with circumcised and non-circumsised people. It does not make sex worse at all" +3 karma.

[–]Jorand 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

"Also, how do you know that sex is better if you are uncircumcised? There is no one in the world who would be able to accurately compare the two sensations. It's all speculation, and again, it goes back to the sexual satisfaction of an infant"

There are TONS of men who have said their sexual pleasure has diminished after they were circumcised. The only time I hear it was okay was if they had a condition like phimosis (and yes I know there are alternative ways to treat it like steroid creams and such, but it was their choice to circumcise themselves) that made sex painful so they felt better afterwards.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't tell me. Follow the link and tell the idiot who made that comment :)

[–]Beneneb 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There are lots of men who said sex was better after being circumcised also. Some studies showed the majority of men felt that sex was better and some vice versa. There hasn't been any conclusive trend one way or another in the studies conducted.

[–]Jorand 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whether it makes it feel better or not, they can't decide that as infants, and should be left intact to make the call themselves as adults.

[–]hardwarequestions 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wish I hadn't wasted as much time as I did reading through all that garbage.

[–]Whoooah 9 points10 points11 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Things that gets me is that half of these are in parenting subreddits.

It distresses me knowing that these people can be reached out to - they're right there in front of us! - have information put in front of them and hear stories from men who went through the same thing, and they just brickwall it with ignorance.

[–]rockidol 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

  1. "Quick I need a simple explanation for why these people are pissed. Let's make something up."
  2. So should you be allowed to give your child a tatoo? Same logic applies.
  3. I'll quote Cracked "It's medically comparable to removing a male baby's nipples at birth -- sure, they're useless, but all things considered, why add expense and/or risk if you don't have to?"
  4. Ok so men can get themselves cut later if they want.

[–]CircadianRadian -2 points-1 points0 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I sometimes dream of having my nipples removed.

[–]hardwarequestions 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

EDIT: you permalinked to the wrong post with the second example; looks like you linked to the followup comment made after the one you intended to link to. keep this list going!

[–]memymineown 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For everyone who is reading this thread and getting angry I only have one thing to say to you.

Go do something about it. Just reading/commenting on the internet isn't really doing that much more than nothing. Write your congressman, form a group etc. Just do something.

[–]MuForceShoelace 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I say this as a non-troll, this is a good idea for a thread.

[–]hardwarequestions 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i've always wondered, and i'm tired of not knowing...whats this story behind your handle?

[–]MuForceShoelace -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not much, scifi technobabble for a silly purpose.

[–]hardwarequestions 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not bad. It's just so random and odd I always wondered. It'd make a great password!

[–]Whoooah 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thanks for making a non-troll contribution.

[–]MuForceShoelace 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not actually against men's issues, they are real issues, I am against real problems being co-opted by another unrelated movement as ammo.

[–]rosconotorigina 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Whenever I hear a man saying how glad he is that he was circumcised, I just want to say "I'm glad you enjoy your mangled dick" but I never do because I don't want to be rude.

[–]RugerRedhawk 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wait, so you've actually spoken to somebody who said "I'm glad I was circumcised". That seems like an incredibly bizarre topic to come up in conversation.

[–]rosconotorigina 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well it does come up on reddit now and then, especially on MR. Not so much at the watercooler though :p

I am uncircumcised and glad of it. I also had my wisdom teeth removed. You know why? Because if they hadn't been removed, I would have four impacted molars, lots of pain, and lots of expensive surgery.

I don't want to pay for any surgery that isn't necessary.

[–]memymineown 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What about people who don't want to be part of your tribe?

Furthermore, now that you have admitted you have ulterior motives for arguing I don't really see much of a point.

If it was proven that Male Genital Mutilation removed the 5 most sensitive parts of the penis you would still be for it because of your religion. I don't really have a hope for convincing you so I will have to settle for banning it.

You can go to jail, stop this horrific practice, or do it in some backwards, third world country.

[+]Sarstan -10 points-9 points-8 points 14 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

All 4 examples are just idiotic. The only thing that makes any reasonable ground is noting that a child won't recall it (and being less than a couple of weeks old, that's very much true).

However, don't discount all pro-circumcision arguments as insane. Frankly while there's no overwhelming reason for it to be done, there's similarly no overwhelming reason for it to NOT be done.

[–]omegaflux[S] 6 points7 points8 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The fact that there's no overwhelming reason for it to be done is the basis of the overwhelming reason why it should NOT be done. In the absence of a clear and convincing reason for surgery to be performed, it should not be, especially on someone incapable of consenting.

[–]casmuff -2 points-1 points0 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Exactly, if we weren't supposed to have it, we probably would no longer be born with one through thousands of years of evolution (including a couple thousand with circumcision), yet, its still there on every boy that's born.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What about wisdom teeth, appendix, etc. Evolution does not work that way.

[–]casmuff 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They have functions as well. Also, we don't remove wisdom teeth and appendixes (appendices?) for no reason, only when there is something wrong with them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually considering circumcision is still prevalent in society despite thousands of years of circumcisions kind of proves it has no reproductive disadvantage. There are plenty of built in flaws with the human anatomy, wikipedia even has a list. They are just not enough to prevent us from breeding.

[+]CircadianRadian -10 points-9 points-8 points 14 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Honestly, I don't care about half these arguments. I am cut and love my penis just the way it is. If some couples want to have there kids circumcised, why should i care. Is it genital mutilation? No clue. If someone doesn't want to cut their male kids at birth, fine. If someone does, fine too. There are far more important battles to be fought.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sorry--cutting up children's genitalia is about the worst thing I can think of. We have internationally binding laws against female genital mutilation, yet folk like you come in and say "I don't give a crap about men, let 'em get cut on! Hell--cut 'em twice if you want!" This sort of attitude is exactly why MR was created--to combat the minimization of male trauma and the normalization of violence against infant children because of their gender.

[–]abk0100 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I am cut and love my penis just the way it is. If some couples want to have there kids circumcised, why should i care.

What do these two things have to do with each other? Circumcision laws aren't to protect you, they're to protect the people that would have a problem with it.

[–]CircadianRadian -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So you have no problem with me circumcising my male children?

[–]abk0100 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Your male children would have a problem with it. They will have a problem with it while the procedure is being performed, and they may have a problem with it later as well.

No, they won't be able to vocalize the words "stop it" but they'll be doing everything else in their power to show they have a problem.

[–]CircadianRadian -2 points-1 points0 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

When that time comes, i will explain my rationale.

[–]abk0100 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How do you explain your rationale to a newborn baby?

[+]fintheman -6 points-5 points-4 points 14 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

I agree with this as well but for some reason some people on MR are starting to make this a polar argument and honestly I'm starting to get weary of MR because they are trying to include this into the MR argument.

A guy being rode for everything he has worked in a divorce while getting screwed out of seeing his children or a guy being accused in false-rape seems much more important than a piece of skin.

[–]wavegeekman 7 points8 points9 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

As a society we under-estimate child abuse eg circumcision. Circumcision is typically performed without painkillers and is extremely painful and traumatic. A full six months after circumcision boys being immunized cry almost twice as long as those who were not mutilated. Lifelong increases in the stress hormone Cortisol occur in those abused by this barbaric practice.

[–]fintheman -5 points-4 points-3 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

How does this make it a MR's argument?

[–]iggybdawg 10 points11 points12 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

there's a federal law banning female circumcision.

[–]CircadianRadian -4 points-3 points-2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed.
