The interesting thing to me is Patriarchy is a malleable enough doctrine that it has been reworked over the decades. The problem is it no longer has enough explanatory power for the aspirations that some feminists have, which is for feminism to be the replacement for men's movements, to solve men's problems as well as women's.

Put simply, the concept hinges around access to power (making it very useful for women's liberation), but most men's issues have not derived from a lack of access to power.

So we get the burying of the fossils - twisted paths of logic to tie men's issues back to Patriarchy. At each step along the path, contradicting evidence that might lead in a different direction must be tossed. Why are male suicide rates high? Because men don't go to therapy. Why don't men go to therapy? Because they're stuck in toxic beliefs that see weakness as feminine. Why do they see weakness as feminine? Because of misogyny - women had to be denied access to power. Why did women have to be denied access to power? Because of Patriarchy.

They say patriarchy is a system that privilege men over women, and when you give them a big list of examples how society privilege women over men in some areas and discriminate against men and boys they say "that's the patrarchy too"

Feminism is a religion, the fact that all countries force men only for wars and create domestic violence services for female victims only is proof that the patriarhcy theory is false.

I am considering posting something like this to answer the question people keep asking me, 'why are you not a feminist?'

I mean we can cite data, talk about historical events of misandry and point out toxic communities within, but personally my issue is a lot more fundamental.

Any feedback on this would be really helpful, as I don't think it's 100% right yet! And want it to be pretty solid before I share it further.

Slide 4 is wrong. Science proposes a testable hypothesis. Theory has a special meaning in science. Only after extensive testing shows the explanatory power of an idea does it become a theory, such as the theory of gravity or the theory of evolution.

Also, this does not at all apply the the feminist idea of the patriarchy. We should not allow them the power of the word theory. Unless they define it more rigidly, it's not even a testable hypothesis. And it's based on cherry-picked data. Effectively, it's myth.

The problem is that the patriarchy on feminism isn't as it says.

I believe in evolution, rigidly, and I certainly would use that as a basis for much stuff. Science can change views on it...

Anyway I think the problem is that they are wrong, it doesn't make sense to me saying the problem is the beliefs are rigid.

I think the amount of debate over the patriarchy within feminism makes this post fall a little flat. There are plenty of people who disagree over the nature of the patriarchy without being expelled from the movement.

The debate you are talking about is happening for the patriarchy, and has been happening for decades. It seems to me that patriarchy is being scientifically reviewed and refined exactly as you claim you would like.

What's strange is how much feminism has changed in even the last 10 years. The feminism I grew up with was all about equality. Not necessarily antagonism.
