If you are looking for material to decorate your room or your university campus, here are a few conversation starters. They begin with a well-known statement abut racial discrimination in the US. Then, like a barely-noticeable shadow, there is the same statement about inequalities between women and men. The posters are visually very simple, first because I wanted them to be easily-printable, and second because the goal is to inform and explain. We don't want to shame people for the ideologies they hold in good faith – we want to start a conversation, have people reflect on what values they stand for, and what social justice really means to them.

If you decide to print some of these, I ask you not to add any inflammatory logo or slogan. Keep it simple and open-minded. Of course, I'm happily taking any suggestions, requests, and corrections.

Funny thing that many issues that "black men" are affected by are actually mostly issues that come from being a man rather than from being black.

Does anyone, especially Americans, believe black women are being killed by the police to anywhere near the same level as black men? Then you have to ask how close the difference between white men and black men the numbers are.

"White women" are actually inflating the privilege of "white people" as a group, and "black men" are deflating the privilege of "black people" as a group.

As a woman, this kind of thing always bothered me. Since I was small, I was taught that, if a man sits besides me in a bench or at the bus, I should chance seats because they are statistically more likely to sexually assaulted me.

At the same time, I was taught that racism is a bad and evil thing, that we should never hate anyone based on something they can't change, that it's horrible when someone feels threatened by someone just due to the color of their skin.

Then, if it's not fair for me to treat black people like that, why is it fair when I give people a "racist" treatment based on their gender?

This is interesting to look at objectively and academically. I haven't had time to verify sources, but the fact that they are included is reassuring.

Unfortunately, to most people outside this subreddit, this will likely play similarly to someone saying "All Lives Matter" (not a phrase I would use). It will be met with anger or dismissed entirely. Hopefully someone sees it and thinks about it beyond that.

I appreciate the slides but they really need sources linked so they can be vetted. Also, I think it's important to point out that for many stats, like education access, prosecution, life expectency, etc., the disparities for race are often largely explained by material conditions in those communities and location. Men and women don't have these kinds of initial disparities. They grow up in the same homes, have the same schools, the same parents, the same class. There is much GREATER evidence of direct anti-male discrimination than anti-black, for which there seems to be increasingly little the more research I've put into it.

White and BIPOC women are the least killed and least likely to be subjected to police brutality. Police brutality killings are actually one of the leading causes of death for black men in America.

I don’t think their is any reasoning to this other than where you live. If sentences are lower in areas where black people live, then that would be the reasoning for the disparity. I don’t know for the women thing

And what does it mean by total media coverage? As in for the total media time for white people vs black? If so it’s obvious white people in general would be on tv more as the majority of people going missing would theoretically be white people.

I couldn’t find any reasoning for the homelessness other than “racism”, but no other factors were taken other than race, which isn’t a good way to identify the source of a problem.

Sadly, men are more likely to commit a crime, while black people are more likely to commit a crime. This leads to “disparities” like this. I don’t know if this statistic even accounts for outside factors such as what they were doing beforehand.
This could very well be based off of where they are living.

Moral of the story: don’t judge everything that you see by just one factor, as the most blatant may not always be the (entire) reasoning.

Is it racist if you do it to yourself? I have this discussion all the time. My friend is a third grade teacher in an inner city school In cinci. Very poor. Mostly black students. It seems to me that the culture is the problem; I grew up in a trailer park surrounded by meth and drugs and alcohol and all that. But MY parents gave me hope by telling me I didn’t have to live like them and to not make the same mistakes. I didn’t. I’m curious, what rights do white people have that black people or women do not? What rights do I have as a white male that the rest of the country doesn’t have? The media dogs me because I’m a white male, yet I haven’t done anything wrong, as a matter of fact I’m DOING IT RIGHT. a taller one, that is narrower, and a shorter/wider bell-curve.

and males are in the greater-stupidity & greater brilliance, but fewer average people, one.

In the news recently ( either r/Science or r/EverythingScience ) it was reported that the same 2 overlapping-curves exist for emotional-health, with us guys being in the narrower/taller one & women being in the wider/flatter more-extremes one.

That is brilliant, and important.

In "The Sexual Paradox" it is pointed-out that the only reason there are ANY male students in university nowadays is because of the lowering of academic standards for male students, to meet self-imposed quotas of male-student-populations.

Susan Pinker finds that education consistently fails boys.

It isn't because we are identical, but are being systematically-abused by prejudice, it is because we don't work well in the education-system, itself!

Who drops out of school most? us.

Who prefers the trades? us.

Who prefers apprenticeships? us.

Who fucks-off to go exploring? us.

Who can't be academic dis-integrity for sake of grades? autistics, like me.

( never tell me in a textbook that an electron-microscope can go up to 1 million magnification,

I think that white women on an average tend to accuse more than a brown or black woman. I live in India.There are people of all kinds of color brown,black,white and yellow. I have only ever been accused of harassment by a white one that too for just laughing in her class.No stupid mf believed me. I did some fake cry and asked them to check CCTV which worked. I then filed a case on her for false accusation but our university doesn't give a crap about that. No such thing ever happened to me with non-white women.

She later gave me very good scores for an average performance and quit the job tho.

The missing person media coverage seems a bit off to me, sure, if it's a young boy or a teen that goes missing there might be some intense media coverage, but im willing to bet the coverage for a young adult and older missing male is a lot lower than just 1/3 of the coverage for a young adult or older female.
