I think there should be some spaces you can go to as well. (Male only gyms or female only gyms) because being with your own gender and not the other allows you to relax in a way you normally can’t. The way I act around my guy friends only, verses around women is completley different. Maybe it’s social pressure type stuff or something like that.

Racial discrimination and sexual discrimination are covered under different laws. In the US, racial discrimination in public accommodations is banned by the Civil Rights Act (I can't remember which title) but sexual is not. Therefore, limiting entry based on gender (like gyms) or charging different prices based on gender (like nightclubs) is legal unless there is a state law saying otherwise. A few states, like California, have laws that make this illegal, but in the majority of the country it is fine.

Inherently skin tone does not actually denote anything about someone (bar melinin(?)) and is thus not a valid tool for separating groups.

Females and males have different brain chemistry and physiology and as such this is a valid way to separate a group. I see no reason you can't have female only spaces, just as you can have customer only parking, competitor only lounge, etc.

The real problem is that female only spaces exits and are encouraged, but male only spaces do not and are discouraged.

Your sex influences your hormones and the way your entire brain works, skin color does no such thing. Skin color is only different appearance-wise whereas the differences between the two sexes go waaaay beyond that. The entire social dynamic, the atmosphere changes when you look at female-only spaces, male-only spaces or mixed spaces. Women feel more comfortable around other women in certain situations, and rightfully so. But the same goes for men. So while I don’t think there’s anything wrong with female-only spaces, I think that if there’s female-only spaces there should also be male-only spaces.

In my home country in East Europe, as far as I can assume, all gyms are unisex.

Because religion. Muslim women can’t be round men. I worked in a pool. They couldn’t even have male lifeguard or receptionist in the building. They couldn’t do swimming lessons unless all staff and learners were female.

Women’s only sessions were when they could go into the building and take their face and head coverings off. They didn’t wear swim suits they wore full body suits legs arms covered most still covered their hair.

Same for the gym.

There quite a lot of religions or just even cultures where women can not associate or be seen around or in same area/environment as men boys any males.

Female only spaces justify themselves because of harassments, which is totally valid, however that doesn't mean that men spaces shouldn't be allowed at all, there are just certain things that are better to discuss/do without the opposite sex there, and that is fine, both men and women have does things/activities.

There is certain stigma against male only spaces because they think they will turn into a huge "locker room", however that really is only rooted in the sexist believe that men are just constantly thinking about sex and sexual stuff. Female only spaces haven't turned out that way to what I understand, so there really isn't a reason to be against male only spaces. You cannot just force people to be comfortable with certain situations just because you think they should, and that is specially when you are already catering to the comfort of other group that for other group.

Okay so I think this is where I would draw the line, as a guy and an MRA. The comparison between say female-only gyms and white-only spaces is simply not fair, not consistent and not a good comparison at all. I realise that on paper, it sounds the same it sounds fair, but it's not. The reason for female-only gyms is quite clear you know. I mean the truth is that men would not really go through... maybe not harassment but the truth is that in settings such as gyms women probably would be much more bothered by men trying to approach them than the other way around and while that isn't inherently bad, the reason for female-only gyms being a thing is thus clear. The converse is really not true. Men are not bothered by women approaching them at gyms and other spaces at all. But now I can only speak from my own personal culture and upbringing, and where I am from and from my experience, men are not bothered by women at gyms and other places. It's almost only the other way around. Again, that is probably strongly related to culture, but it is what it is and thus I say again that the reason for the desire for female-only spaces is true.

I also used to think that female-only spaces is low-key sexism but the more I thought about it from a realistic-centered perspective, it started to make sense to me.

Whereas the concept of white-only spaces (OR black-only spaces make no mistake on that account) simply does not make any sense. The reason for people wanting female-only spaces does not apply to races. At least, for the majority of the time it does not. At least in my culture and experience/upbringing, no such thing exists. It's not like in a place like a gym now, that white people would be harassed by other races or black people would be targeted for harassment by other races. It simply is not the same thing as with men and women.

I'm trying to speak with as much reality as possible and hopefully I make sense or at the very least you guys can understand what I am saying.

Another thing that I can add is that male-only spaces are PERFECTLY fine as far as I am concerned. THAT is a fair comparison and there is nothing inherently wrong with that. Maybe many guys would feel more comfortable in a male-only space for exercising or something and I believe that is totally normal. Although I suppose the reason why male-only gyms are not as common as the opposite is probably because most guys don't see much of a reason to have them, because they are not really bothered by just normal everyone-inclusive gyms.

It’s a poor attempt to fix a problem. It’s sexist to men and women. It’s similar to the “women should cover up because men can’t control themselves”. The rationale behind a woman-only gym is like “women need to protect themselves by going to a ‘safe’ woman-only space because men misbehave (harass) if they don’t”.

Another analogy is abstinence-based sex ed. they think that just not talking about it or putting up barriers to it will fix the problem of people getting STIs and unwanted pregnancies.

The real solution is to implement enough social programs such that harassment goes down from men to women but also everyone else getting the emotional intelligence to treat other people with respect. that solution just requires a long time, it’s a culture change.

It is not the same movement of aggression. And the jurisdiction is more blurred regarding sexist aggression than racism.

One produces a safe place for women/men to sexually harass and assault.

And the other deepens racial inequalities.

The only way to stop gendering establishments is to assert a legal power against sexual violence. (regardless of gender)

Because it would be wrong to complain that women don't feel safe. It is not a power grab against men. It is not an ego attack to want to be safe from alarming statistics.

I've never heard a person articulate a valid concern for a whites only establishment. On the other hand there's solid reasons for women's only gyms and facilities. Women's hospitals AFAIK specialize in treatments common for women but I'd imagine they wouldn't turn away a man who needed a procedure they do

Obviously women-only spaces are to protect women from rape and sexual harassment.

Those are practices I thought were rare. But for some 10/10 women, they’re ridiculously common.

Let’s be real- women are far more likely to be victims of rape and sexual harassment than men are.

We need to focus on the real issues that harm us- colleges giving women an advantage in admissions, companies giving women and advantage In Hiring, unfair divorce courts and unfair spousal support orders.

Well, in my country, you can market yourself to whoever you want to and give the impression that it's a "women's only" facility but by law it's not. There are a few exceptions such as domestic violence shelters (which are a different form of discrimination for another time) but overall you can't truly have a sex-specific operation.

There are plenty of establishments through history and to this day that are largely whites only establishments if not publicly stated, it can be inferred. There are places you can go and if you pay attention, it's obvious most people are going to be white. You may be in the wrong area.
