Tbh it's a pretty crude phrase and clearly comes from a place of anger and frustration on the part of women. Those feelings are understandable though, a lot of guys do need to get the hint and become aware of the fact that women get way too much unwanted attention.

I'd say don't put yourself down but do be aware of the above fact. Take into consideration all of the creepy, cloying, possibly even dangerous guys who could also be in that woman's DMs and take being rejected or ignored with grace.

If someone flakes out on you then you should absolutely be the one to disconnect from them though.

When used, this phrase means, “This man is not good to you so stop wasting your time trying to fix him or please him and just let him go because at this point the only things you’re getting is sex and validation which is a bare minimum standard a hundred other guys can give you but those 2 things alone are not worth it when you’re being mistreated and taken advantage of”. If you were getting unsolicited dick pics into your dm's on the regular, you'd understand why some women say this. Men think the world revolves around their dicks and this phrase is women reminding them that it doesn't. It's not even just unsolicited dick pics, it's going on dating apps and the convo being turned to dick in the first three messages, it's going on dates and being asked if you spit or swallow when you're trying to enjoy a nice meal, it's the constant expectation, even coercion for sex which is generally unsatisfying and often painful for women. Only 20 percent of women cum from vaginal penetration. We are tired.

The solution would be to talk to other men and persuade them to stop this behaviour.

It's true that many, not all, women, could get someone to sleep with them. But being a good person and one who's loving and has goals they are working towards, good goals, not narcissistic ones, goes a long way. Thinking right towards others and not hating women (or men) helps too. not feeling entitled or with a chip on your shoulder. Again, you can't prevent yourself from being dumped. But if you try and be a genuinely good person, not just putting on an act and look for another good person to form a lasting relationship with, with mutual goals, and not just someone "hot" and not just for sex. Then you increase your odds, but never eliminate they might leave.

As far as I interpret the phrase, it's that you need to bring more than sex to the table. If that's all you have in your toolkit, you are perfectly replaceable.

My girlfriend could replace me, just as I could replace her, but we would be losing everything we offer to each other. We have mutual support systems. We work as a team. We are there for each other and we try to build each other up. When one of us stumbles, the other is there to help stand up again.

That's not easily replaced and not something that's out there in abundance, ripe for the plucking. So my read of the phrase is that it's often used tongue-in-cheek when a man overestimates the value of his opinion, particularly where it relates to how a woman should behave to get a man (which even assumes she wants one).

So to my mind, becoming high value is to offer something substantive and more than superficial traits. It also tends to translate over time. If you're single, focus less on "becoming high value" and more on finding a match. Time is how you demonstrate value, in my opinion.

Last time I was on a dating site I made it clear that I was looking for a relationship. Within a week I had about 40 offers for hookup. The men put no effort into getting to know me and it was really clear that as far as they were concerned any hole was a goal. That attitude is a complete turn off. In theory yes, but in reality it's not really a blessing for women. A short story to put this into perspective:

My ex gf and I departed kind of in good terms and we stayed friends. She lives now quite far away, but we text each other from time to time on a platonic basis. She is **"objectively" cute and good looking and despite that she was not able to find one good guy on Tinder within the first four dates. Many were creepy, tried to push her around or they were deadbeats. (Eg.: Living in their parents flat, while they are 26. No job and motivation to get one. etc) So you have a lot of crazies and undesirable men out there, that is the first thing.

The second thing: If the women puts in the effort to filter through the crazies, then she still wants someone who is actually good in bed and who can provide with one or more orgasms. Many men can't or don't want to do that, especially for ONS.

tl;dr

"Bad dick is cheap" would be the more fitting phrase. Men who are good lovers are quite rare or so I've heard from the women I'm friends with.

The whole dm thing is actually scary. You're right about it but it's not just women who get dms it's children too. I was 13 when a 21 year old dmed me some really sexual stuff and I was confused and a little frightened. And I'm not the only one who went through this. A lot of my friends have too. I do not, in any way, think that men are replaceable. However, especially online, I get dozens of unwelcome messages a day. Often full of sexual harassment, dick pics, and even unaliving threats. What I don't seem to get is people who bother to read and respect profiles. I am treated like an option on a fast food menu.

So, you learn quickly how to make snap judgments about people. Because, yes, I do get dozens of messages, but they are almost entirely from people I'm not interested in.

Did they bother to read your profile?

Did they actually start a conversation with you or did they just send a one word greeting?

Did they fill out their own profile or did they just say 'ask me anything'?

These details come together to paint a picture. Someone who ignores my profile, sends a one word greeting, and has only 'ask me anything' on their profile is someone who isn't worth attempting because they are clearly not willing to do the bare minimum of meeting me halfway. They didn't put anything in their profiles that I can work with, conversationally speaking. Sending just a 'hi' or a 'how are you?' shows you aren't willing to attempt an actual conversation (especially since my profiles always request you avoid generic small talk and to ask an interesting question instead).

(Side rant here: I dislike fibbing but also really do not want to unpack my day for some random stranger who doesn't actually care anyway, so 'how are you?' is my least favorite question ever from a stranger.)

I also have a feeling that high value means very different things for men vs. women. High value, for me (a female passing non-binary), means someone who adds good things to my life and adds a minimum of bad things. I don't mean money or sex, I mean commitment, true partnership, communication. Someone who helps me be better and who wants my help to be better themselves.
