I used to be really active in r/atheism. The subreddit used to be full of people critical of every creed, every belief. It's really a haven for a closeted ex-muslim where if I openly point out my views in the real life, I could get exiled by my friends and family. Arguments are being debated honestly there, my views are being challenged, and I can openly challenge someone else's ideas. I don't know when it turned into twitter. You either have to follow all leftist ideals closely or you're the enemy. Anything I said to the contrary to the popular views got downvoted to oblivion.

That sub is full of angry atheists/agnostics. Reading there makes me cringe and be embarrassed of being agnostic myself. They remind me of myself when I was 15 y/o and I was trying to show off being agnostic like if it gave me some sort of superiority over others (spoiler: it doesn't make me any better).

It always kind of was a cesspit. Most of the people on there may not believe in Christian theology, but they are most assuredly culturally Christian in that they were raised in a region where Christianity is the dominant religion.

They often define themselves by a rejection of supernatural belief, but that definition is driven largely by a desire to reject Christianity, especially in the geographic regions where these people originate. They are specifically rejecting the Christian dogma that their family was probably quite weak on or hypocritical about as they were raised. They aren't Christian in the traditional sense that they believe in the Christian God, but they are members of a culture that has its traditions, calendar, diet, music, art, sciences, fashion, social mores, ceremonies, and more defined by Christianity and it's influences and rules.

If you get married and have a ceremony that apes a Christian ceremony, or you buy your children presents and put up a tree in late December (even if you call it a solstice celebration), or you have a Western style funeral with a burial, or you go to a community fundraiser fish supper in late March or early April on a Friday, or you participate in a food bank or work on a Habitat for Humanity house, or your idea of Vegetarianism includes fish... you are culturally Christian weather you like it or not.

The entire Atheist community got split in half way back in 2014 when feminists first started infecting it. The SJW half decided that just not believing in a god wasn't good enough: you must submit to SJW ideals or be excommunicated. All of the big name Atheists who were married to/dating feminists (Matt Dillahunty, Aron Ra, etc.) sided with the nutjobs and stopped talking to the ones who were allowed to have sane beliefs without fear of sleeping on the couch (Sam Harris, Michael Shermer, Richard Dawkins, etc.).

But that's what SJW movements do. They are like viruses: they infect other, larger movements and then use those to spread their own agenda.

I am a die hard atheist. Always have been, always will be. r/atheism is one of the many reasons I left Digg for Reddit 10 years ago. That said I’ve been extremely hesitant to participate in any atheism movements since Dawkings got canceled. Went to Reason Rally shortly after that all happened and couldn’t believe how twisted the movement had become. If religion has taught me anything it’s that critical thinking, rational discord, and contrarianism are essential for a healthy society to function. Once you lose the ability to object you are thoroughly, and irrevocably fucked.

Personally if I was a women and didn't want to give birth in a place with laws against abortion( witch BTW is dumb as fuck. My mum had me at 16 I would have been better off if she didn't thank you) well then I would do something like say drink posion, throw myself down stairs, I would kill that little fetus one way or another.

I was atheist throughout my teens and very anti-religion. I just started my 20's and I've come to respect that religion does have an importance in some people's lives. Although I am atheist, I do believe religion can be important and has saved people's lives.

This has made me lose a good amount of atheist friends.

The other conclusion I came to is that the far left is a cult. You have to be fully Atheist, if you question anything, you're either labeled a Nazi, a Fascist, or a far right member. The far left harbours a lot of these radical ideals of there being absolutely no middle ground. To them, there's always only one right answer and one wrong answer, one bad guy, and only one good guy. E.g. only men are capable of evil, only women can be victims of rape/ domestic violence/ sexual assault etc.

I used to be a little left leaning, but I tell people that I've been pushed into the right by the extremism in the left. I got called transphobic because I didn't want to date someone who is transgender, I have a girlfriend and she was there, what am I supposed to do, dump her for some woke points?

People are in Denial that I was ever in the left despite holding some left leaning values, and it's crazy, they're so confident that I was never a leftist to begin with if I'm in the right. That says a lot about them.

The point I'm trying to get to is, This sort of behaviour is all over Reddit, Reddit can be very far-left leaning and so it's a Haven for radical feminists. Again, "Men are bad, forced vasectomies" and all that is somehow a positive thing on these platforms. I have noticed a shift recently, a lot of big subreddits have "reformed" to be a lot more politically open when it comes to left and right wing politics, and that can't me anything less than a good outcome.

It was some article going on and on about how only backwards fundamentalist fanatics are pro-life, and only so they can oppress women. It's easy enough to understand why the roe vs wade thing changed that sub; since religion & pro-life arguments tend to go hand-in-hand, and that sub is literally atheism.

I agree it's kind of annoying how much of it ends up about roe vs wade and "bible thumpers want you to have your rapist's baby" chanting, which is thankfully why there's other subreddits to discuss & debate religion/atheism that aren't that one; that may have less activity, but do involve a lot more posts discussing faith or lack of it, without turning it into "but abortions!" every 3rd post.
