Many men report older women being interested in them. Does that mean older women lower their standards or does that mean older women had more relaxed standards?

I dated a 10-year younger man for a brief time when I was 40-ish. He hit on me at the park where I was walking my dog and asked for my number. I had been celibate 4 years and thought what’s the worst that can happen? So I gave it a whirl. It was not for me. Or maybe just that particular guy was not for me. But the reason I gave him my number was that I had been alone a long time and it flattered my vanity that a man so much younger would pursue me. Plus two of my friends were dating men 10 years younger and 17 years younger, so I wasn’t worried too much about appearing like a cradle robber to my friends. I don’t know that my standards were lowered or relaxed per se. I didn’t really have any standards because I had no expectations that it would be anything serious, which it wasn’t.

Older women get a much-needed ego boost from the attention of young men. If a young man likes me, that proves I still got it. I’m still sexy. I’m still worthy.

Whether we like it or not, women are valued for our looks. And no matter how much we try to undo that internal programming, it’s still there. Societal expectations run deep.

The sad thing is men think they’re hot shit when older women pursue them, but the reality is you’re just an ego trophy for an older woman who isn’t mature enough to recognize her behavior for what it truly is. Then again, most men are just happy to get sex from a MILF and don’t care if it’s degrading, so there’s that.

But trust me. No young woman is seeing you date her mother and saying, “Wow, this guy must be totally high value to be with such an older woman!”

We think “Geez I hope I’m not her when I get older.”

I never noticed this as a major trend. It might become more of a trend just because so few women have kids anymore. With all the spare time they now have in their 30s and 40s that used to be spent devoted to raising kids, I think we will find these women will now spend some of that time pursuing sex. Sometimes with younger men.

Older women tend to not want or have already had children, so they're not looking for a man who is father material. So they can afford to drop all standards other than looks and reasonable behaviour. As far as looks go, just being young puts a man well ahead of most of the older women's male peers, so she won't necessarily be as fussy in that regard as a younger woman. Youth is attractive, especially when you no longer have it yourself.

At 50 I may hit on a 35 year old not a 23 year old. They are still boys to me.

Though I have no shortage of under 30 men that would have sex and fun in real life.

I don’t think I could call myself an older women yet but I would never be interested in a younger man, and all my friends are the same, firstly their like children and just want you to take care of them.

Standards lower with time, but not that much. Table 2 here summarizes the fall in romantic standards on various traits. Notice the negative correlation for women's standards for physical appearance at just .14 (practically no drop). If anything men lower their standards more with age.

As a man who's done well with all the women I think it's a mixture of realizing that aren't young so they can't really leverage that to manipulate or lead a man on

Also I do think that's a combination of that and for the fact that they are older now so they probably are much more open to men and confident and actually expressing that to men where I feel like a lot of younger girls are so insecure that even when they are around guys they still expect guys to do all the heavy lifting

Younger girls seem to want to lead you on and try to test you as much as possible

In my experience it depends on the woman in question and what she values. I have a friend in her 50s who's currently dating... like three different dudes I think? One in his late 30s, one who's close to her age and one who's getting close to 70. (Before anybody pitches a fit everyone involved knows and nobody is being lied to.)

She enjoys different things about all of them. I on the other hand am in my late 30s and have zero interest in younger men, or even much older men. My friend enjoys casual relationships so shared values and interests are less important to her, whereas I am only interested in serious relationships so I need pretty intense compatibility to be interested.

More like just different standards. Older women likely aren’t looking for a man to raise kids with, so they don’t have to worry about how much money or how responsible the guy is. And if you don’t have to worry about that you can select for looks/good sex, which a young guy is better for.

Older women are less physically attractive, hence their standards for physical attractiveness are lower. It's usually the simple answer that is correct but whenever age or race come into the picture for dating, people make up complex explanations to spare feelings.

First, how do you define, "older"? Older than you? Older in general? Lower their standards? If you are meeting a variety of women, they will most likely have varying standards. Life happens and as people age, their attitudes, beliefs and drives change. When people reach a certain age, and place in their life, sex is a recreational activity. You find a woman who is older than you, who needs an itch scratched, you may be the one.

It's true and untrue.

Here's what really happens.

I used to work a job where older, married women would openly describe me as handsome and intelligent. These women weren't even trying to hit on me since they were taken(but, then again,....nvm) but they seemed comfortable handing out these compliments to me like a brochure.

But it's not always due to desire. Many times, young women who are above average looking already have men hollering at them left and right as well as beta orbiters, simps, and fuckboys trying to get a chance with them. So, of course, most young women are very hesitant with their compliments except for the absolute top tier men who they feel are on their level.

Older women don't have the same levels of desirability as younger women which means that they can compliment younger men and just assume that the average young man isn't going to have the hots for them anyway(which is usually the case except for the niche of "cubs" out there). So, they're better able to keep their guard down when acting friendly and complimentary towards men.

That's really what it boils down to. Older women and younger women have different values for sure but they don't differ too much when it comes to raw attraction. If an older woman is giving compliments to a young man, there's a chance that a number of young women feel the same way but are too saturated with options to lead him on.

I think as women older they get more comfortable with their sexuality and find it easy to compartmentalise sex and emotions.

So, why would they not find the hottest male possible to have NSA sex with?

It gets problematic as these younger lads often fall for them and it's not reciprocated.
