I don't know, if that really is the full story and you aren't leaving anything out, then yes. She is being very hypocritical, like how some men will consider their hookups healthy but a woman's hookups unhealthy. These are both examples of hypocritical behaviors.

The illogical part: She had said that she has countless times engaged in hookups and casual sex with guys she thinks is hot but not "long term relationship" material. Then in the next breath went on to say it's disgusting for men to go after women for hookups and casual sex.

Its very logical, even without the first statement, but that just makes it more fun and adds context. She's just trying to get a rise out of you and see how you're going to react, which helps determine who you are.... it's similar to the variant "I'm not going to sleep with you on the first date" .....here's some possible responses to wanting to hooking up herself but being disgusted at males doing hookups...

1) "Well.. uh that's not me, I would NEVER just go for a hookup, I agree with you.. that's so gross..

It’s usually men who want to have casual sex but judge women for doing the same. I think generally women judge based on how he’s treating her. For example if it’s clear he’s just after casual sex and doesn’t lead her on or ghost her then it’s okay. But if he treats her badly by ghosting or something then women will get upset.

The woman you were speaking to was expressing a double standard but I don’t think it’s a particularly common thing.

Differences in dating standards between men and women can be different without being hypocritical because men and women are looking for different things. If a man has a promiscuous past but wouldn't seek a LTR with a woman who has the same, that's his choice. Women are similarly able to screen him out on the same criteria if it means that much to them. If they choose not to then its because other positive qualities outweigh the promiscuity.

To me its like renting (dating) vs buying a house (marriage). In the case of the latter you're going to do a lot more research and be much more careful with your choice because the costs of making a mistake is much greater.

For a women choosing to marry a promiscuous man, chances are he makes up for that negative signal with other positive ones such as income, stability, treating her well, similar values in other areas, etc. For an independent man though, women really only bring companionship and sexual exclusivity to a committed relationship. Take one of those things away (or put it at risk) and marriage becomes a lot less appealing.

I like how women will defend women who have multiple partners like "they're just looking for a relationship". Where saying men who do it is creepy. Note the comments in this sub. All defending women while belittling men. Yes this is hypocrisy. Women pursue causal sex for the sake of sex only, just like men do. But they have to hide behind the double standard of "they didn't really want to" or their just looking for a relationship. Why can't we just accept both sexes have casual sex and get over it. I don't see why it's a big deal if women (or men) only want sex. I know several women who have sex casually for the sex only. Men do it too. Doesn't make you a bad person. Or a slut. Or creepy. It's just a natural biological urge we all have.
