I think it should require paternity testing. And, if found that the person being sued for child support is not the biological father, then no child support awarded. That would be a huge leap forward in progress.

It's individual. In cases of proven paternity fraud, rape, reproductive coercion, sperm jacking, etc, it should be banned. In cases where the abuser got custody, it should be closely monitored to make sure it is being used for the good of the child. In cases where the amounts are far more than the payor would have paid to raise the child if the marriage stayed together, they should be limited. In cases of modest payments with healthy co-parenting and without manipulation on the part of the receiver, child support is good.

I am conflicted. I saw some of my friends suffer from lack of paternal support. You couldnt force those "fathers" to be a father but at least their financial support would have helped.

Also single man are also entitled to child support if the woman refuses to be a parent then pay up.

So while personally I think the concept is just and pro responsibility, the system needs an incredibly big overhaul. 50/50 in all ordinary cases, limit the amount to a more reasonable one, no more debtor prisons, payment plans for men who fail to pay, work programmes for men etc

Ban all child support. Child support is a direct monetary incentive for women. It is used as a tool to manipulate cheat steal and destroy fathers and children's relationships. Automatic 50/50 care should be the expected standard everytime unless otherwise agreed upon and proven why it should not be 50/50

Get rid of it. Was never truly for the child, but often used the child to get money. After all, not like there’s any guarantee every cent was spent on or related directly to the child. Just easy money for women for 18 years, especially if the man is rich.

Absolutely. Because it is "child support" in name only. It's just alimony.

Children need an actual relationship with their father - they don't need him to cut mom a check which she can spend on whatever she wants while being otherwise alienated from him. That has nothing to do with supporting the child. In some cases it might even be financially harming the child because the parent paying child support might have been more inclined to actually spend it on the kid than the parent receiving it.

It's not even worth reforming, the entire concept is so flawed it should just be banned.

I think its the right and obligation of both parents to raise their kids. Presumption of 50/50 custody with no child support. If one parent won't or can't do their share of the raising (and arent bearing their half of the expense and burden), then child support is appropriate. I think there should be some discretion for unusual circumstances of 50/50 custody (i get that kid's shouldnt unnecessarily suffer), but should require scrutiny by the court (because the other parent shouldnt be benefitting or rewarded for being intentionally un or underemployed).

Definitely, it shouldnt be punitive and no one should go to jail for a debt.

It should end at 18 or upon graduation from high school.

The calculations need some serious looking into.

Non-biological/non-adoptive dads shouldnt be subject to child support.

Involuntary fathers (rape, sperm stealing) shouldnt be subject to child support. (Rare, but does happen).

Personal note/rant: i have 50/50 custody, provide the "primary" home; yet still pay her substantial child support...and she gets the tax deductions. 🤣 she hasnt worked in years, no disability. (She lives off of her parents and child support.) It's absolutely insane. My fixed expenses for the kids are completely ignored from the calculations...only hers matter, despite my providing the primary residence. (Btw, I'm not like rich or anything...middle class income.) It's insane.

If the genders were reversed, i have no doubt i would be in jail for refusing to work. Instead of being punished, she gets tens of thousands of dollars.

I think Child Support is a necessary evil. And needs to be changed to test for paternity, and not be calculated based on a man’s paycheck. Along with not giving a portion of the money back to the system. Once you do those things it would be a good system.

ehhh I think banning it might not be the best idea. I'm a big advocate for child support REFORM, but not abolishing it entirely. While plenty of good men get fucked over and become slaves to the system, there certainly are some cases where it's warranted.

I think that at the FIRST sign of pregnancy, both parents should have a kind of official contract stating if one or the other want the child of not, if the father chooses not to, the mother has the choice of either having the baby without child support, or not to have it ( assuming that they can if wanted ). the problem comes when the mother doesn't want the child, i don't know what would be the more ethical between 1.Not having the baby because she doesn't want to go through pregnancy and birth 2.Having the pregnancy but not to pay child support and 3. having pregnancy without child support and have a "compensation" for keeping the baby. And of course exeptions like health risk for the mother.

And if there is a breakup after both of them stated that they wanted the baby. First the decision of where the child will spend his time ( 50/50 between parents -> no child support ) and if the child is more with parent A than parent B , B pays child support proportionally .

In my opinion, child support should not have to be paid if the other parent has enough money to take care of the kid and him/herself. Parents should have custody of the child split 50/50. If one of the parents is deadbeat, he should have the right to visit them and should be able to appeal for 50/50 custody again after an amount of time if he/she visits the kid/kids for a long enough time and spends quality time with the kid/kids.

Whatever is given to children is gifted, it is not an entitlement. Child support is only meant to punish the most financially secure DNA provider, which coincidentally is the father 95% of the time.

I think child support is a good thing honestly. A paternity test should be necessary to sue someone for child support, but if the guy has been proven to be the father he should at least be there for the kid finincially. Condoms don't always work, so we always accept a certain risk during sex. The innocent child shouldn't be forced to live a shittier life, just because we can legally abandon it. In many cases child support is unfair towards the father, but that's not the kids fault. Another given in order to receive child support should be, that the mother has to prove that the money was spent on the child, and not on her. If the money is gone, but she can't prove show that she spent it all on the child, her child support should be cut down to the amount that she spent on the child, because she's just shown that she doesn't need that much money for the child.

CS should be based on need not a % of someone’s income. If the woman remarries, then CS should be eliminated or cut in half. It’s very difficult to try to support yourself, let alone a second household where you have not only no say in how the money is spent, but can’t actually get proof that it was spent on the child.

I think judges need to be more fair when deciding who gets custody of the child. I think child support need to go on a card like food stamps so the money is actually spent on food, clothing, etc for the child rather than at the nail salon for the mom (I know many mom's who are at that nail salon the day after they get that child support).

We do need to fix our child support system. My brother father still owes my mom over $20k in back child support.

Child support is essential and necessary for cases of fully separated parents regardless of sex. However, in my opinion a man should not be forced to pay for another mans child and a man who had no idea he had a child has no responsibility to shell out huge amounts of money for a decision of a woman to have a child. Child support should require a showing made by the person requesting it why it is needed, and what exact amount they need for the total of their child's care, justifying their figures by using the least-cost methods of raising a child, and then dividing that figure by 2. That amount should be calculated as child support, and it must be calculated by the person requesting it, and then investigated as valid by the Court before imposing it on the other parent, who must be biologically confirmed as the father. (Again, proving that is up to the parent requesting it).

I think there should be paternity testing but also if a father wants nothing to do with the child he can choose not to pay but is also not allowed to have any contact with the child, similar to how women can have an abortion if they don’t want the child. Oh and child support should be paid to the person who spends the most time with the child, so if there’s equal time between the two parents no child support is paid

Like others have said, I think CS should only be awarded after the paternity of the father is verified. However I would take it an extra step and say that at the end of every month, the recipient has to file an itemized expenditure list with receipts to the state to prove the money is actually being used towards the child, with a final copy available to the person paying as well. Additionally there should be strict restrictions against what it can and cannot be used for.

Aside from the obvious self indulgent purchases, it's important to remember this is child support, not woman support. It should not be being used to pay rent or bills. The mother cant afford to provide a stable home and environment for the child? Why the hell do they have so much custody then? Food for the child, school related costs, medical, dental, clothing, recreational activities and items (EXCLUSIVELY for the child and obviously not to excess), straight up only things that unilaterally support the child.

Child support is really easy.

if in doubt paternity test. Woman refuses, no child support.
50/50 time is the starting point. So with this, each parent is entitled to having the child 50/50 of the time. Someone refuses to release the child, no child support
So, no child support is paid until one party says... "hey, I can't look after this kid in my 50%", then child support gets paid. Effectively they pay the other party for whatever portion of time they cannot do.
whenever the child is under your roof, you pay for the necessities of food, shelter etc.
Common costs are shared. Eg, new pair of jean $60, each party pays $30.
Costs go to the kid, not to the main account of a parent.

I think child support should be handled on a case by case basis via a judge, unlike NYS where there is a mandatory percentage of your check taken and handed over to the mother.

• Child Support should be negotiable between parents if they're separated by a failed relationship, without the law involved- i.e; Dad/Mom decides to send Money of their own will. Visitations of their own choosing as well, Unless there's proof or potential for the Children being in Harms way with one of the Parents, then some legal action should be taken.

• Child Support should have a legal procedure if it's caused by Rape.

• Child Support should be Negated if caused by a Woman's deceit. (Lied about Birth Control, Sabotaging a Condom, Stealing Seamen or Rape commited from the woman herself.)

I think those are all my points in opinion so far. I could stand to be corrected though.

Child support should only ever apply when one parent decides to abandon their partner after explicitly agreeing to raise a child(ren) together. With a legally binding document that probably looks and acts like a marriage certificate.

Sex is not an implicit agreement to raise a child. Conception and the like are a woman's responsibility.

No person should ever be expected to be unwillingly saddled with the responsibility of raising or providing for a child. That's bad for everyone involved, most especially the child, and medical science has evolved to a point as to make this a complete non issue.

We live in a clown world in so many ways, it's difficult to think about. It has to be the robot overlords playing a joke on us in the simulation.
