Men want sex more than women want to give it, and because of that there has always been excess male sexuality that needs to somehow be expended and absorbed. Historically this was handled by prostitution (and to a lesser extent, rape), now there’s pornography that has been added to the mix and is edging out the other outlets.

Is this a good thing? Kind of. You certainly don’t need as many pornographers as you need prostitutes to address excess sexual desire. But female pornstars tend to have a very bad experience with the industry, so even if ethical porn is possible it is not the norm.

And there is also a negative impact on men from having a more easily accessible outlet - instead of challenging themselves to transform into the man that women give sex to freely, they can get just enough satisfaction to never actually be satisfied.

It doesn’t just remove undesirable males, it also creates them. Men who grow up now watching pornstars getting choked out, spit on, and throatf*cked expect that to be what every woman ought to desire. That expectation in turn pushes women to do things they don’t want to do.

I starting watching porn when I was 12, and I saw this ratcheting effect where by the time I stopped it the abuse I saw on screen was just too damn depressing. It took a while before I could come back to earth and even know what a healthy sexual relationship with a woman looked like.

Porn fucks up men before they’re even fully grown men.

I'm not sure why we're always coming from the viewpoint that guys most would consider incels are always these obese, sweat-stained caricatures. Does it make us feel better to think that way? That they somehow deserve the label? Even if they don't hate women and have no desire to undo the years of progress made?

Is it so hard to just think that these are just normal dudes that, yeah, may be a little awkward or introverted. Maybe life has just dealt them a bad hand and they're not so confident in themselves. I don't get it.

I agree with some of this post.

Studies suggest that access to porn is linked to lower rates of sexual assault. I saw a study that showed that sexual assaults fell in certain parts of the US when internet access increased, with the implication that this was due to men having more access to porn online. If I remember correctly they compared counties where internet access increased with ones where internet access didn't increase and they saw a drop in sexual assaults in the ones that got more internet, but not in the ones that didn't. I saw a similar study in Japan.

On the other hand, I don't think that all women really want undesirable men off the market.

To use OP's example, I think 19 year old Sarah, the hot co-ed from Santa Barbara, would be happy if ugly creepy guys were at home jacking off to porn instead of trying to talk to her.

However, all women aren't hot co-eds. In fact, most women in the US aren't 19 year old hotties. The average woman in the US is a 40 years old and overweight. She's also married with 1 or 2 kids. But let's say she gets divorced or breaks up with her partner. And let's say she's 5"5 and fat with a unibrow, coming back on the dating market in her 40s with 2 kids. Now she's not going to be so happy that the ugly creepy guys are jerking off to 19 year old pornstars who look like Sarah the co-ed from Santa Barbara.

The dual mating strategy is the reason women get angry at men jacking off to porn, or seeking any other sexual options.

Overall, when a certain segment of the male population is rejected from the market, withdraws from the market, or is withdrawn from the market (i.e. through mass incarceration), you end up with a lot of single women who can't find men, women having a hard time finding committed relationships, more single mothers, etc.

19 year old Sarah will be fine if a bunch of men are off the market. She'll still probably get the man she wants. But when she's a 45 y.o. divorced single mother, with fewer options, it might not be great for her when there aren't enough men to go around.

It's not like watching porn means you stay inside all day watching it or are completely sexually satisfied. You're still going to go out and interact with others and take ideas from porn into the real world, including ideas about entitlement to sex. There's even increasing evidence that supports a link between sexual and violent crime and porn use. Porn teaches violence, it doesn't remove it.

Porn is not satisfying for men. Excessive porn use is a band aid solution for men who can’t attract women in real life. Instead of these undesirable men doing things to make themselves more desirable they can resort to porn which makes them feel good temporarily. After so long of only having porn as a means of sexual satisfaction, I find it more likely that they will become resentful, depressed, or whatever and are more likely to lash out at society for being outcasted. It will be much easier for a guy to adapt to become more desirable earlier on than when he’s been relying on porn for years.

You yourself probably have seen some pretty wild stuff said here by some men. And it’s probable that those men are getting those ideas from porn where women are doing a bunch of nasty stuff, Youtube podcasts where clout chasing Instagram influencers represent the “modern woman”, and very little real world interaction with women besides maybe a few sentences of small talk. And men continuing to be provided an easy way out will continue to make more men have wild opinions on women.

Because it is used by low-value, undesirable, and unattractive men to release sexual tension.

It is used by all sorts of people! Men, women, children, couples. The amount of porn someone consumes isn't only dependent on the amount of sex someone can get.

I see the argument attractive and desirable men using porn. So what, a few loses for a good goal.

Think of it like this, those guys that stop chasing women becuase of porn, then their primary motivation for seeking out women is sex. At that point your asking them to transition their targets from on the phone to in real life.

The fact that women under the age of 26 74% of them aren't getting approached is a good thing. Leave stranger women alone.
